Eagles-Vikings Game Postponed

20 posts in this topic

Per NFL PR man Greg Aiello via Twitter, the NFL has postponed the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Eagles and the Vikings due to safety concerns and the uncertainty of a snow emergency in Philadelphia. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday night, 8pm ET on NBC. (LINK)

The Vikings just can't catch a break this season.

Since when did this become Baseball? Football is meant to be played in High winds and snow in December... perfect weather for Football and it gets canceled? Roger Goodell continues to turn the NFL into a pansy league and this is further proof. Vikings & Eagles should just suck it up and play!

This isn't about the Vikings and Eagles 'sucking it up' look past your Goodell hate parade for a second.

The reason the game got postponed is to eliminate any dangerous outcomes that would arise from the thousands of people traveling to the stadium via car in snowy conditions, the mayor declared a state of emergency.

It's a good thing the game got post-poned, nobody (civilians) should get injured or hurt going to and from a football game and that would have undoubtedly happened if the game went on.

They're calling for 20 inches of snow in Philly, not to mention, the city was reeling during last year's blizzard. Even though they're more prepared this year, you have to keep in mind how bad Philly traffic usually is, then multiply that in taking into account the effects of snow and ice. Just not safe conditions for fans to attend the game.

I read that the snow isn't suppose to come until tonight when the game comes. Guess flexing that game to SNF backfired on the NFL. If they would have kept it at 1PM the Eagles/Vikings would be playing right now.

It's the Curse of #4!

Tuesday night football; should be fun.

That would be so funny if Favre gets the extra 2 days rest and plays.

Got word from my friend Luke (Philly resident)....

state of emergency has been declared....city's on lockdown..people have been asked not to leave their homes once the flakes start flying.

Who do the Eagles have on the schedule next week...Dallas?

Did I hear them right on TV when they said the game will start at 4:00 on Tuesday? 4:00 is bizarre and the original announcement said 8:00.

Nope, it's already touched down and had been touching down since roughly 11am this morning, so even having kept it at 1pm might've been a bad move since it's accumulating fast.

That would suck for me as I'm starting Joe Webb in fantasy.

Thank you for stating this fact.
The "sissy" comments around the web and TV got old real fast.

Here is another scary thought. Imagine being a fan of a visiting team and getting snowed in / stranded after an ugly win.

I have to agree with Franchise on this one - we should take into account the safety of the fans - on the way to the stadium, during the game, and finally after the game on the way home.

This is a very good move for the league, at least I think it is.

Well I found someone who agrees with my statement about the game being canceled. PA Governor slammed the NFL on moving the game to Tuesday Night.
"It's an absolute joke. I was looking forward to this. It would have been a real experience. This is what football is all about. We're becoming a nation of wussies."
I was watching ESPN earlier in the morning and they had Sal in the stadium and it was cleared out... they could have played the game today.

How can the NFL, from a responsibility or liability standpoint, hold a game and ask 60-70K people to drive when the city invokes a "State of Emergency" that declares only emergency personal are authorized to be on the road?

They should not be so quick to issue a state of emergency before there is any actual snow on the ground. Sounds like a lot of CYA on the part of the city and then the NFL
