Matt Millen: Skelton More Mobile Than Flacco?

^^^

i don't think that "mobile" QBs are becoming a thing of the past. mobile QBs are hard to gameplan for...especially once they get out of that pocket!
In terms of mobility in the pocket (and before the LoS) you may be correct but there's no question that a QB today is judged by his ability as a pocket passer, not by how well he can run. There are still a few guys who can make plays with their feet but the focus is undeniably on passing. How many quarterbacks can you name that are a serious threat in the running game?

Stoney Case, Jeff Blake and Tony Banks were more mobile than Flacco. Boller had some speed.

But (obviously) none of them were EVER the QB that Flacco is.

Matt Millen is an idiot.

Did anyone else catch Matt Millen's completely random reference about how the Cardinals Qb, Skelton, is more mobile than Flacco? Another reason why I hate those clowns over at the NFL network.

I didn't hear his comments but it doesn't surprise me. The NFL Network was a good channel but now Millen, Theisman and Steve Young are a joke. Even Jamie Dukes has become a Bryant Gumble wanna be. Millen ran the Lions into the ground when he thought he could run a team and now he is ruining the NFL Network.

Seneca Wallace
Tavares Jackson
Troy Smith

these cats can get out in the open field and torch the defense for nice yards! i never said that a QB should just be able to run and not throw! however, for a QB to have the ability to pass and run? to me that is a plus!

Steve Young is with ESPN, not NFL Network.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Millen, Theismann, and Dukes are ruining the NFL Network; there's so much more good programming and so many more quality analysts on the network.

You should see/hear my rants on Joe Theismann and Matt Millen every time they broadcast a game...

If I weren't a Mod, some of the stuff I've said in private about them around here would get me banned. -_-

No doubt, they are the worst crew EVER. They were hard to listen to when RAvens faced Atlanta, they were all over the Falcons and how great Matt RYan is and RAvens and Joe got no love whatsoever. Its pathetic, you'd think the NFL NETWORK crew wouldnt be so biased with their opinions.

Matt millen has no business being in football anymore. The guy is an absolute idiot when it comes to football knowledge and routinely says things that are absurd.

I remember him saying it. But I don't care that much. I mean Flaccos mobility is underrated. Like today, he had those two back breaking runs and he made another play or two outside the pocket.

I've been saying this for a while now, that he's going to have to be more mobile in order to negate O line issues. It kind of seems like he's only mobile when he wants to be. We as Ravens fans all know he CAN do some things while moving around back there, since we've all seen it. It's just a matter of actually DOING it and today, he was very mobile.

I should have specified, how many SUCCESSFUL QBs are there in the league right now who are serious threats in the running game? I'd say only Vick, Rodgers, and maybe Freeman fit into that category.

You seem to imply that I think being able to run is a bad thing. Obviously it's a great ability to have as a quarterback, but it's not necessary. The NFL is moving more and more towards a passing-oriented game and therefore QBs who can torch the defense through the AIR are in the highest demand. The successful mobile quarterbacks in this league use their running ability to supplement their passing, not the other way around. Good passing quarterbacks are becoming dominant in this league and "mobile" quarterback are only used as gimmicks unless they are also good passers.

Do you really disagree with that? Would you rather have a great pocket passer (Peyton Manning) or someone twice as mobile but only half as good at passing (Troy Smith)? It's obvious that being a good passer is more important in the league right now.

The NFLN Thursday night crew...the same folks that are so high on Matt Ryans jock that when Ryan missed Roddy White on a slant, said that White must have run the route wrong? Those guys are idiots, and I don't take a single that they have say seriously. It's sort of what football has become though. The media picks their darlings, and for whatever reason, they have not taken Flacco into their ring of greatness. Personally, as long as the Ravens win football games, I don't give a damn.

Definitely agree, he's quietly leading the team to his third straight playoff appearance, and has shown marked improvement every year. However, John Clayton of ESPN gives him a lot of love, repeatedly dubbing him an elite quarterback, which I agree with.

and another thing that never gets mentioned...Flacco's QB rating is higher than Ryan's this year. Flacco has had a very good, albeit quiet, season. He just doesn't get the hype.

I heard that comment and prior to the past few weeks he may have had a valid point. I don't know what got into Flacco but he's extending plays now and scrambling out of trouble. Very nice to see and he's keeping many drives alive that would have been three and out. Way to go Joe!

Nothing "got into" him, he's simply growing as a quaterback.

I noticed that too. I had flipped to NFLN to check the score and Millen blurted that out as soon as I flipped the channel. It just adds to my irritation when it comes to some of these "commentators" opinions (and I use that term loosely) regarding Joe's mobility. The man doesn't scramble regularly, like say Garard, Freeman, or Vick, but that doesn't mean he isn't mobile. How many times have we seen him roll away from the rush and dash along the sideline for a first down, or astonishingly break out of a sack (like yesterday) and take off? It isn't common, but he's quite mobile, I'd say.

Personally, I feel as if Joe doesn't run as much as he wants to, sometimes.

It seems like some of these commentators *Cough Collinsworth, Millen, Theisman, Dierdorf Cough* just don't do their hw, especially for under-the-radar teams like B-more, as they say absurd things to prove their points.

He just hates the Ravens, so no surprise there.
