Come on now, you act as if you're surprised about this! It's no secret that a select few get the QB skirt rule. You really think Joe is on that list? If Ben isn't on that list you should know good and well Joe sure isn't on it.

Of course it's not right, but the NFL is not right either. There is nothing that will be done about this, and the Ravens can send the NFL videos till the cows come home, but that wont change a thing.

I think Ben, because of the team he plays for, would've been on the list but for his off-the field shenanigans.

Yeah that could ring very true. Why should the NFL cater to him when he has done nothing but embarrass the NFL more than once off the field.

Then again you still have to take into account the health and saftey of all players, no matter what off field trouble they may have got in.

Though true intent is impossible to judge, body language and whether or not the hit could've been avoided tells part of the story when it comes to intent.

For instance, Brandon Meriweather repeatedly launching himself into Todd Heap's helmet is an indication that he probably intended to knock Heap out. While he probably never wished a concussion or serious injury upon Heap, the unnecessary launch shows that Meriweather intended to separate the ball from Heap by sending a violent jolt through his body, and that the chances of forcing a fumble are increased when going for the upper body rather than the lower body. Rather than go for the torso, Meriweather went for the chest and ended up hitting Heap in the chin and head.

Also, a player standing over top another player in an intimidating fashion after delivering a vicious blow, indicates that the tackler knew the extent of the damage he did and was proud of it, even if he didn't know exactly where he hit. That also determines intent, just by that show of bravado manifested in his body language.

While I heavily disagree with the fine to Reed, Aaron Wilson has a point when he speculates that the reason the league didn't fine Will Smith for the hit on Flacco was because they couldn't determine whether the knee was intentional; upon watching the video again, I'm inclined to agree, although it seems as if penalty flags have been thrown regardless of intent in erring on the side of caution, so a flag should've been thrown in the case of Smith-to-Flacco if the same was done for Reed-to-Brees.

Yea, just to add onto what Carl Johnson was saying..I thought the league doesn't judge intent? Haha, looks like they do what they want, regardless.

right after the play, when both Reed and Brees were getting up, they gave each other the hug - Reed knew what was coming(the flag), even though WE saw it was really nothing. Flacco gets drilled week after week and they never call it - go figure.
Maybe after we win the Super Bowl they will look out for Joe, like they do Brady, Brees,etc...

wow! Reed fined for hitting Brees but no fine for Flacco getting a knee to the head when he is on the ground? pitiful!

They should have knocked 5k off the fine , Reed helped him up off of the ground atleast . Besides I think it was a bogus call he barely touched him but rules are rules !!!

The amount of players getting fined is getting ridiculous. Pretty soon it might just be easier to fine everyone before the game starts and refund the few players who didn't hit someone illegally. Less paperwork that way.

I think all NFL fans should speak out against Rodger Goodell. He obviously does not have the best interest of the NFL, the game of football, and the fans who pay him all that money in mind. It seems as if the Players Association see's this also with no collective bargaining agreement any where close to being agreed on. IMO he is probably keeping all the money he is making off the fines for himself so he is not poor next year during the strike. Who appoints the Commissioner anyway?

They consult oracles as to who is the most worthy to the run the NFL...

Actually, the 32 NFL owners vote on who they wanted to be commissioner. The commissioner isn't so much "appointed" as he is elected... Goodell was elected in August of 2006 over the course of five ballots, as opposed to Taglibue's twelve...
