20,000 Members in 3 Years: A Look Back

68 posts in this topic

I must admit that it took me a long time to warm up to the Ravens after they arrived in Baltimore because i did not know what a Modell ownership would produce. I am old enough to remember watching those Mayflower vans on TV heading out of Owings Mills in that snow and it left a bitter taste for years and the thought of a losing franchise coming to town left me skeptical but a new name and colors left any reminders of the Browns back in Cleveland. This has become a solid and respected franchise and i think the Ravens will be there for many years and should be competive year in and year out and the fanbase is tops in the league.

After launching in April 2007, the Baltimore Ravens Official Message Board has now surpassed 20,000 registered members!

To put this milestone into context:

As you can see, we've come a long way. Starting as a tiny community with only a dozen regulars, we have now gathered a large collection of eclectic, unique, and passionate fans that you won't find anywhere else. As the official message board, we've created a unique environment where fans of all teams are free to respectfully engage others in thoughtful discussions about all aspects of football. Along the way, we've also brought together members with shared hobbies and interests in the Off-Topic Forum and created a "something-for-everyone" experience that transcends age, gender, race, and culture.

There are very few who can say that they haven't learned something from another member during their time here. The inherent nature of a message board is the sharing of opinions, and often, while one's opinion may not change, they may still take something valuable away from the discussion. I have learned a lot from all of you and I am proud to still be an active member, three years later.

Everyone here deserves a pat on the back for making this community what it is, no matter what they bring to the table. If not for you, we wouldn't be sitting here at 20,000 members and counting, and we wouldn't be able to reflect proudly on what we've been able to accomplish in bringing together people of various backgrounds and uniting them in our common love of Ravens football.

Downloadable wallpaper can be found in the Downloads section of BaltimoreRavens.com. (LINK)

The section used to be updated weekly with new wallpaper, but is now updated only on occasion.

I always used my computer for work and nothing else. I have been a Ravens fan from day one, but the excitement I felt over the playoff games in 2009 drove me to the internet to feed my need to hear everything Ravens. I found the forums. Though I have only posted a few times, I come here year round to read what is going on. I'm surprised to find it has only been here since 2007, great job and thank you.

Nice Job!
I have always been a reader, actually signed up last year, forgot my handle, and it wasn't until something really ticked me off that spurned me to re-register and comment. Glad I did, you guys are great and should take a bow for this awesome forum! BTW, I like how the Mods don't let Squeeler fans talk junk!

20000 members is pretty ridiculous. It means around 6500 join every year, meaning we have a rate of oveer 18 new members A DAY. For a relatively young franchise that's great.

Especially as I don't think we've ever been a bandwagon type team, except perhaps for the Superbowl year and this year.

@I AM LEGEND
105.7 is my most used car radio station. Does everyone know you can access it through itunes? I can listen while on the computer. You can access the sports stations from other cities as well. I usually don't listen to the opponents, I get too riled up. Another reason why I like this forum no trolls.

Where's the 20,000th member? Isn't this thread basically dedicated to him? What a jerk, delete him!

I followed BR.com before there was a forum, and I remember being excited when I saw the "Forum (Coming Soon)" icon on the site, because I knew I'd finally be able to discuss the Ravens with other Ravens fans. Living in California I never got to do that before. Thanks guys for maintaining such a great forum.

You can post in the regular forum at any time, but cannot start a topic anywhere except the Questions/Feedback/Test sections until you hit 15 posts. Most trolls give up fairly quickly once they hit the Post New Topic button and get the error message.

And speaking of trolls, we shut those down fairly quickly. You guys don't even see most of them because we can either tell by the username or by the first couple of posts if they'll give us trouble.

actually i didnt realize how long i had been on this site til i read this article. i have to say this site alone has made my ravens experience that much better. just wish they would start doing little giveaways to us fans again. Like say once a month they giveaway a signed ravens autograph shirt or something of that effect. would help to elevate our popular status even more.
They used to do that a few years ago and I won a chance to go to a pre-draft luncheon where I was able to sit in during the press conference and I was able to go on a tour of the Raven's facility. Hey, by the way, I was the first-ever Post From the Pressbox contest winner! I got to go on the sideline during pre-game warm-ups, sat in the press box and ate delicious catered food, rubbed elbows with well-known members of the media, bumped into Solomon Wilcots, and watched the post-game press conference up-close! I also witnessed the post-game confusion when the Ravens walked back to the locker room (which was literally across the hall from the conference room) and saw the players up-close as they rushed back onto the field to play overtime against the Browns after thinking they had won the game in regulation.

Just thought I'd remind y'all. ;)
