MY GOD,

I hope we don't go overboard with Flacco contract.

WOW. Atlanta is desperate. He got more guaranteed money then Jake Long. I dont think Flacco will get anything close to that unless he performs well. We will probably give him and incentive laden deal.

Atlanta is really trying to bury this whole Michael Vick situation.. As much as i like Ryan, im not sure if i would give him that much money even if i had it..

I realy don't think Ryan's contract will make much of a difference in what Flacco gets. There is a big drop-off between each pick especially within the top 10 and we got Flacco @ 18 so I suspect there will be considerable erosion in salary form Ryan to Flacco. One reason Newsome saved Bischotti some money trading down from 8 to 18. Not for that reason but that's the way it worked. I'm just glad Bischotti didn't demand Ryan and force Ozzie to give up the house to trade up. Good move Steve.

I hope we don't...

I'd hope it would be around 3, mostly 5 years, with $5-8 million deal. no more, maybe less. :P

I can almost guess that Flacco's contract'll be about 5 years, $16-20 million max. Probably $5-8 million in guarantees would sound about right with that figure. I also figure the contract will have incentives that trigger escalators in the contract, which could be a decent way of protecting the team in the long run IF Flacco can't compete at the high level he'd be expected to perform as the starter.

I forgot which player's contract I got the inspiration from for the escalators, though, so I could be wrong...

Terrible move by the Falcons. Now while I don't think he will be a bust at all, I don't see him putting up HUGE numbers for at least another 4 or 5 years (if hes ever above average). With Flacco I agree we will go with a lot of incentives, that seems to be the safest bet with rookie QB's.

Sad to see that rookies are getting paid more then proven veterns. This needs to change, give them a few mill and see how they do there rookie year, if they live up to there expection then sign them to a huge deal, If they dont then pay them what you think there worth.

Atlanta should have taken Dorsey. Ryan isn't Elway and this money is out of sync with reality. QB's in top 10 picks are hardly ever worth the cost.

Just insane money man.. tom brady doesn't even get paid that much! I really hope this gets changed in the future, or else these rookies will just get paid more and more and more..

And the vets will suffer. I dont think the NFLPA can allow this to continue. I know it happened pre draft but look at all the vets that got cut by Atlanta to make that cap space. Its not fair.

Atlanta took a big hit when they signed Matt Ryan... So much talent lost at their positions. I never woulda done that for an unproven QB

MY GOD,

I hope we don't go overboard with Flacco contract.

I am thinking Flacco will look more at Brady Quinn's deal and ask for more than that (obviously since he is a higher pick) and it can't hurt his position that we traded up for him, giving him yet more leverage at the negotiating table

I think Flacco is just eager to get on the field and prove He was worth a 1st round pick, No doubt He's gonna wanna get paid but I dont think He's going to be trouble when it comes to the deal.
