What A Surprise

50 posts in this topic

We finally see a good full game from the offense, especially the offensive line, and we beat the current Superbowl champions. I have to give credit to every man who laid a block for Ray and Willis in their dominant game. Then the rest falls into place, we look, in my opinion, the best we have all year.

Flacco, while not having the best of days in the stat column, made a couple of beautiful throws.

The D was good for the most part, and came up in the clutch when we needed them to.

This is what I said in the pre-game thread: One good offensive line performance was the line between us struggling and looking like one of the best teams in the league.

My hat is off to Cam Cameron, I can't think of one situation today where I was thinking that he made a bad call.

We repeat this every year, but it's all about peaking at the right time. It doesn't matter how perfect you look in the regular season, all that matters is winning enough games to get into the tournament, and then winning those games by any means.

You get hot at the right time and that carries into the post season. I remember when we got to the AFCCG two years ago, friend of mine at work (who is a Pittsburgh fan) said the only team he didn't want to meet in the playoffs was Baltimore. Granted we all know how that ended, but it goes to show you how momentum and getting on a roll at the right time can elevate your game going into the playoffs.

A second half touchdown would be nice.

I can...the last FG. They should have gone for it on 4th and eaten more clock. Also, you never want to be kicking off with only a few seconds left. Teams DO run KOs back for TDs.

It's not even about playing pretty, hitting that stride just means finding a way to come through when it's gut-check time. The Ravens defense did just that on the Saints' last offensive possession, when it looked as if Drew Brees would work his magic again and drive 90+ yards down the field for a touchdown. Josh Wilson did that last week against the Texans with the game-saving INT in overtime. Joe Flacco did that several weeks ago against the Steelers, throwing a TD pass in the last minute by orchestrating the best 2-minute drill he's ever conducted, to win the game in Pittsburgh.

The scoreboard doesn't care how the points are tacked on, just as long as one team has more points than the other at the end of the day.

i couldn't have said this better!

now...the Ravens offense has to BUILD on what they done in the Saints game. to me, they are still trying to find the "balance" between running and passing. right now...they play like it is a "one or the other" thing. they have to find and harness that balance (much like today).

when they are in running situations...they have to execute them effectively
when they are in passing situation....they have to execute them effectively

teams that can do that...are extremely hard to beat...just ask the Patriots recent opponents from the past few weeks. lol!

A second half touchdown would have come had it not been for an uncharacteristic drop from McClain, which was a good play call.

The field goal... I can understand your point, but that wasn't anywhere near as poor a call from Cam, who had caused outrage recently with two of his latest calls. (The first being the Polamalu play and the second was the incomplete pass on third down against the Texans.)

You do realize the decision to go for it or not was harbs and the lack of a td was on the players I.e. a dropped pass and not on playcalling right.

Lastly understand that's a difference between playcalling and execution and execution is on the players.

Teams will try to shut down Rice in the playoffs, we have to be ready for that. The screens worked well today.
The Ravens have won without many big plays from Ray Rice in previous games this year, so as long as the offense can find ways to spotlight their other playmakers when Rice is shut down, the team should be in good shape.

I love you, Baltimore. These Ravens almost wanna make a grown man cry.

After the Houston game I will admit that I was a bit disappointed in the team and their second half flop. I had worried about that with a high powered offense like the Saints coming into town.

While they didn't get the ball in the end zone in the second half, they still were able to drive down the field against the 6th ranked defense (At the time) in the league and set up for a few field goals. In previous games (Like Houston) it seem they were 3 & out putting the Ravens defense back on the field.

Their running game hasn't been that effective but with Ray Rice in the backfield, you knew he was bound to have the best game of the season sooner or later. What better timing to do so with the Saints run D coming to town.

With the Saints having the ball at the 4 yard line in the final few minutes of the game, I kept having flashbacks of the 90+ yard drives in the Houston game and the one right before the half this game and was a bit worried. What more could you have asked for with the Ngata tip & the Redding interception.

My hats off to Mattison & Cam this game for making the proper adjustments on such a short week of play.

I love you, Baltimore.

We have seen the Ravens get it done without standout performances from Rice, true. But I can't deny that I am starting to get a little worried about how little we're involving Boldin recently. We need to incorporate him more, he's becoming a little more than a shadow on the pitch.

I'm not surprised at all. While everyone was preparing themselves for a loss, I predicted a close game with Cundiff kicking the winning FG. Hats off to Cam this game. I can't fault anyone on the last FG though I'd have liked to see them go for it as well. It only left them 10 seconds on the clock at kickoff and they needed a TD to take the win. Our defense didn't look dead on their feet in the 4th this week either. Good job by Mattison, though I still hate that zone D at the end of the half.

Rice and McGahee (and all those wonderful blockers) really came into their stride this game. The changes on O line seemed to really make the difference.

Have to say, even though it was another nail biter, this was the best all around, complete effort this season. Now keep it up all the way to Dallas!

Far from a complete offensive performance. 3 TDs in the first half, 3 field goals in the second. 9 points in a half of football does not a complete offense make.

I don't think he did. I know he will be happy with the win, but there will come a time when even the most selfless man becomes unhappy with his lack of participation.

But the performance, whilst being far from perfect, was a vast improvement upon last week. For instance: We had 7 yards of offense in the third quarter last week, and should have had a TD this week. Cam didn't call any really questionable plays, and the defense by and large did it's bit, including closing it out when it mattered.

In most cases, I imagine that last call was on harbs. That's a pretty big one.

But it's our most complete performance yet. Of course it wasn't complete, I don't think many teams could say that they've had a complete performance yet. But I think that game was an improvement, the likes of which we had been needing for a long time, hadn't been getting, and, honestly, I wasn't sure we would see it. But we have now, now we need to build on that and take the momentum from the game into the playoffs, which we will surely make now.

Anyone else catch that sideline applause by Harbs when we got the delay of game penalty that setup two Koch punts inside the 5-yard line? Classic.

Move the ball back 5-yards, give Koch a better chance of placing the ball right where he needs it... not once, but twice!

A full game on all sides of the ball against the defending SB champs..... who could ask for more the Sunday before Christmas?

Now, to beat Cincy & Cleveland and reclaim our division title and our first round bye!
