Cornerbacks

nobody is talking about those guys.they look at the pass defense stats in the houston game which we gave up 398 pass yards.the problem was the offense could not pull off a first down.which made the defense barely have energy.we could not get off a rush and the line could not even rush.the dbs were playing excellent in the first half witha good rush and good play from the offense.wilson, played great, chris was good, but lardarious webb was great he broke up paSSES AND TACKLED well.

These guys are good in coverage. I was surprised to see Webb on Johnson way down the field one time, but he did great breaking up the pass. Our corners are by no means though the best in the NFL. And they can only cover for so long, which means if the pass rush is not there, they won't be playing well enough.

While I agree, Webb, Wilson, and Carr played well for the most part. They made some nice open field tackles, broke up some passes, and got two picks, they weren't without their faults. Wilson whiffed on a tackle that gave Houston another first down, most notably, and receivers were left wide open all through the second half. I do like the guys we have, Carr has progressed nicely, Wilson has that playmaking tendency and Webb has tremendous upside. It's truly a shame Foxworth went down before the season started, we'd probably have a solid cornerback corps. However, we probably wouldn't have Wilson, who I really hope is kept around long term. Foxworth, Wilson, Webb, and Carr could very well develop into a solid secondary.

One guy I'm also interested in is Cary Williams. He played well in the preseason, and seems to have the ability to play in the league. I just don't think he's there yet, if he ever will be.

Yeah, the CB's were solid. Never thought I'd be saying this, but Reed was the reason for a lot of the deep balls.

actually we got some very good CBs, hopefully Wiz of Oz would try to re-sign all of them like wilson, c.williams. carr, washington (4 depth only), i think whats killn our D, is the Offense, we need to do vs NO is the defense needs to keep everything in front of them, offense needs to fix O-line, bottom-line, after watching the MNF replay, wow!! our O-line is as horrendous as the redskins O-line.

Weird isn't it? Some of the gambles just didn't work for him that game. Of course even he can be fooled when Schaub is looking him away because he has all day in the pocket.

Yea the secondary played much better then the numbers would suggest, and do a really strong job all night. That Texans offense made some plays all night but for the most part the Ravens defense did a great job slowing them down especially in the first half.

Schaub was 6/20 160 30% 1TD 1Int in the first half of that game, and most of that came on the last drive before the half. Where schaub was 3/7 for 80 yards and a TD.

I hear a lot of people questioning the defense going into this NO game, and while it will be a huge test, I think defense will respond greatly.

It's called prevent defense. AKA something we arent good at. Zone Blitz is one thing, but dropping 8 into zone is just down right <bad>.

Im starting to feel confident about our secondary everyweek. 2 interceptions by two diff. corners and one for a pick .
they were breaking up catches ,tackleing harder. (they couldnt tackle any better, the texans recievers were making amazing catches, have to admit)

They are playing a hell of alot more tougher everyweek now. they have something to prove and im sure they are sick of being being call the weak link which hasnt been the case the last few weeks , especailly monday night.

josh wilsons play was obviously good with that pick, but webb was unreal all night, hes the 3rd stringer and he was out there al night on johnson, his best game of the season by far

Wilson was matched up with Johnson quite a bit too but Webb certainly played an amazing game. He made strong tackles, had an amazing pass breakup late in the game and had a big punt return too.

I'm beginning to think that our CBs are now very underrated. Carr especially. These guys haven't done a bad job all season, and certainly haven't been slaughtered. The Buffalo game was the exception, but I thought that was mostly Fabians fault, I remember seeing him get beat a couple of times for TDs.

Yeah, when there isn't a pass-rush most elite or in Matt's case (borerline elite) QB's can figure out Ed Reed.

But the thing that scares me the most is Reed actually stopped gambling and still kept getting beat.

With all that being said, its only 1 game. I have all the confidence in the world that Reed will play great this weekend.

Webb had a solid game in coverage and was a solid tackler. Wilson also had a very nice game and Carr was solid. Reed didnt have a great game in coverage but was a pretty decent tackler. But the real weakness is the coverage by linebackers over the middle. Suggs was beat for a decent gain covering Daniels out of the backfield and both McClain and Gooden were beat by Daniels over the middle but at least Jameel almost broke his up and Gooden was lucky Owen dropped the one on him. The CB's are playin good ball right now, hope they keep it up.

The difference between a great CB corps and an ordinary one is the pass rush! Enough said.... I think we have decent CB corps right now! As long as our D coordinator calls a 3 man pass rush we are going to get hammered by a decent QB with lots of time to find his targets!

Pittsburgh is the perfect example of that. Their corners collectively are probably worse than ours but they have a sick pass rush and stop the run like no other.

I do too, I'm confident in Reed's ability to bounce back because I trust he will sit in the film room and decipher Brees' throwing tendencies. What I lack confidence in is the pass rush obviously, and that makes all of Reed's studying essentially go to nil. I think if we can actually execute some stunts, maybe even some safety blitzes (which worked SO well with Leonhard when he was here) then we can get some pressure. 3 man rush is never going to work unless Suggs goes berserk (nice rhyme)

I have to admit that I underrate Carr sometimes, not to the point where I think he's awful though. I think it's because he's a quiet corner. Webb and Wilson have been doing some amazing pass breakups. Wilson is a guy that I'm always waiting on for an explosive play and Webb is a guy that I feel confident in matching up with any WR out there. With all that I sort of forget about Carr and kind of forget about how well he really is doing. He has definitely been shutting people out, getting pass deflections, and INTs. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time when he picks the ball off.

Anyway, I just wanted to give credt to our CBs because they've been performing way better than the stats show, I think, and I think for the most part they have been doing a fine job tackling. Even though players might get a big hit by just laying in a shoulder, I'm happy to see our guys hitting and wrapping.

I would hate to think where we would be if we didn't have Carr. Remember the Steelers were the other bidder for him when he was a free agent a couple years ago. Not only would we be worse due to his loss but the Steelers would be better. :bitenails:

Sorry, but I can't excuse Andre Johnson not being covered at all. I'm not talking about plays where he jumped over somebody, or the pass was perfect and there was still a defender right there with him. I'm talking about the plays where the defense actually let him just... run free. There's no excuse for that. I don't even care of the playcall from Mattison was "don't guard Andre Johnson," because as a player... you should have the smarts to say "I'm not letting their best player beat us."

Not necessarily saying this was the corners fault specifically, but typically corners guard wide receivers and you'd think you'd keep a corner on the other team's beast receiver at all times.

some people predicted a very very bad season for our secondary and pointed them out as our bad ankle. bottom line is: we are 9-4. our secondary plays pretty good in my opinion.

especially carr surprised me the most this year. he took a huge step from last year and i feel very comfortable with him and wilson on thoutside and webby in the slot.

our secondary is definetly not our weak body part...
(if we really had one this year!)

we as fans allways want to see the perfect game but you know what: it never happens. there are a lot of teams in the league struggling bat some point of the season or some point during a game. but that´s just football.

momentum changes every second. the lost art is to keep it on your side for a longer time than your opponent. and 9 times out of 13 we did this this year!

I AM VERY PROUD OF MY TEAM!!!!!

I agree, I'm very thankful that we got him and I appreciate his abillity. I think his play sometimes gets overshadowed by big pass breakups that Webb and Wilson make downfield. Believe me, I don't underrate him anymore. Speaking of the Steelers, I'm pretty sure Carr shut out Ward in both games. For me, that'll never go unnoticed.
