Favorite Stand Up Comedians

157 posts in this topic

When I mentioned Greg Giraldo among the comedians who are no longer with us as a favorite, I was going on the basis of his work on the Comedy Central roasts. He was pretty vicious on those roasts.

Now that he is gone, I have to just wonder what he would say about someone else at any roasts in this era.

Likewise with Bill Hicks - I have listened to him go off on so many people and things; it is truly a shame he left our world in 1994. Once again, I have to guess what he would say about this day and age.

Chris Rock, with a close nod to Lewis Black. One unknown I've seen lately is Charley Murphy. Raw, but has alot of talent. Don't know if he is related to Eddie, but sure does look like him!

You can't be serious. Charlie Murphy is not unknown. And yes, he is Eddie's brother.

If you're a Ron White fan and you have Sirius radio, he will be broadcasting live on channel 104 (Raw Dog) on Monday - Feb. 14th at 8pm.

Since I still have all of my teeth, I won't be listening to that. Nor will I be listening to any other comic on the horrbily unfunny "Blue Collar Comedy Tour"

He's the best out of all of them. Some of his stuff is pretty good. But I don't find the whole "Tater Salad" bit funny at all.

You know what? White kinda grew on me. He's still nowhere near the best comedian IMO, but when I first heard the blue collar comedy tour I'd have said he was my least favorite.

Still, this conversation is useless without a Pryor reference in the last 20 comments.
--------------------

Apparently in Europe, the comedian "pool" is completely different. They seem to feel Bill Connoly is the best comedian (being from Europe himself). So if anyone has thoughts on him, I'd be curious to hear.

I've never seen Bill Connoly doing stand up. But I have listened to some of his comedy songs and I like the guy as an actor (except for Boondock Saints 2).

I'm quite a fan of Dylan Moran. Although it seems like his material doesn't change all that much. However, Black Books was an awesome show.

I have to agree with you, Jon, this so-called "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" is nothing more than a way to make redneck humor acceptable, as I believe that most blue collar workers are embarassed by the term "Blue Collar Comedy".

As far as Southern humor went, that died when Archie Campbell passed away in 1987. His monologue, "Hockey Here Tonight" is a classic.

I highly disagree. You're acting as if "redneck humor" is on the level of "black people" jokes, or any other type of racial "humor". Not to mention, the Blue Collar Comedy Tour is really only pinned with the redneck moniker thanks to Jeff Foxworthy and that useless imbecile Larry the Cable Guy. Engvall and White are not "rednecks", and they're legitimately funny.

I'm sure "cable guys" are more embarrassed of Larry the Cable Guy than "most blue collar workers" are embarrassed by the term "Blue Collar Comedy".

Anyways, I've been on a George Carlin kick. Man, I would have elected that cranky old man President.

He was David, I think, the one who was complaining the whole time. He lived with Liz and her friend, he was dating the friend. Now I want to watch it, again, haha. It was a great movie - if you liked it, you should check out Hot Fuzz, too, same director and similar cast.

Yup. He created a show called Black Books where he runs a bookstore and drinks all day. If you like dry British humor (or humour), I highly recommend it.

I guess she needs to be able to laugh if she's married to you. Probably helps on a day-to-day basis.

I just watched a Gabriel Iglesias show, and that guy is hilarious.... I also like Bill Engvall and the other "Blue Collar" guys... Tosh is pretty funny as well, although I haven't seen a "stand-up" act of his.
