I've always thought Brady throws the best deep ball, whicj is funny considering how people always say he doesn't have an elite arm.

Manning and Flacco tie for second ... Manning's is more consistent, but when Flacco is on, he is inhuman.

That 2007 Season Brady could just chuck it up there with Moss double covered and he could still come down with the grab. Was a combined effort.

Also would put Micheal Vick in there. He just flicks that thing and it travels 60+ yards in a few seconds.

i'd say rivers. he's been throwing deep to guys they picked out of the stands and getting results. if the chargers had a better record i think rivers would have to be right up there in the MVP conversation this year

I'm going to say Phillip Rivers although I haven't seen too many better deep balls this season than the one we saw from Joe last night that Mason...dropped.

To me, and I've heard others say the same, Joe throws the best out in the league.

Uhh, have you guys seen McNabb launch the ball? I mean like holy crap. He gets my vote.
Very true. McNabb does throw a great deep ball. It makes the amount of times he short-hops passes to receivers that more perplexing though.

Rivers and Brees.

This, it seems like these two never miss a deep target.

Are we judging by this year? Because Rivers hasn't faced a real defense all year. The Chargers have faced ZERO teams in the top 12 for overall defense. He's faced #7 and #8 against the pass (Oakland and Indy), but the next best after that? 19th ranked Broncos.

Joe has faced 4 in the top 10 (overall) and 4 in the top 10 for pass D.

So is this just for this year? Then I wouldn't jump on the Rivers bandwagon all that soon.

None of that changes Rivers throws an amazing deep ball.

Easier to throw deep on Arizona than on Pittsburgh. Joe usually attempts deep balls from within his own endzone and he usually completes them against even top defenses (not basing this all on the game vs Pitt). I don't watch the Chargers, so I can't really comment. But it doesn't seem to me like he's throwing with that much pressure on him.

Fair enough. Joe throws a really good ball but to me, Rivers throws a better one.

What's the "best" deep ball mean? Most accurate? Thrown the hardest? Farthest? Combination of them all? What?

What makes each of you come to your decision of who throws the "best" deep ball?

Vick and Rivers definitely

And Joe still doesn't take many deep shots as much as those guys do. We do it like once or twice every 3 games, but those guys do it like 6 times in one game

Cam Cameron ineptitude......

We go deep (IMO meaning 40+) 2-3 times a game....

Remember last year when Rivers threw that deep ball to Vincent Jackson when he was triple covered? And it sailed perfectly into his hands? That was a thing of beauty. Found it.

Better than this?

I could dig up so many of these. Not saying Flacco is the best... I just really like the guy.

Rivers, Flacco, then Brees on the deep ball. Manning and Brady throw better to midrange targets across the middle and on the sidelines.

I've never seen anyone drop it in the bucket as well as Rivers. Hopefully by the time our o line gets fixed Joe won't be retired.

No one mentioned Aaron Rogers? He has an amazing deep ball, as does Mike Vick. Its hard to say about Brady, I know he used to sling it way downfield but not so much lately.

Same thing when Joe throws the bounce pass too.
But I think Joe's deep ball is becoming the best in the league. He is always on target now. The only time I see the throw not be great lately, is when it is to a TE that is not Heap. That has got to be because Flacco is not yet used to these guys, especially when they are subbing in for Heap and running his routes, instead of being a 2 TE set. Even that throw to Heap against Pitt was perfect, but Heap's hamstring slowed him down just a little too early.

No, this is "Who throws the best deep ball". Period. Not just this year (although I dont think one's talent for throwing a deep pass fluctuates significantly year to year).

I don't think Rivers compares to the three guys I listed either (actually, I think the 3 I listed are in a class of their own, which is why I didn't even list guys like Rivers, McNabb or Brees) . He has great touch and good accuracy, but almost laughable velocity.

Yeah, I really want to give my vote to Flacco, but he needs to simply deliver it more consistently. Everyone overthrows/underthrows deep passes, or puts too much or too little velocity into them. But I think once Flacco continues to refine the touch on his passes, he'll run away with this 'award'.
