Coffee Is For Closers, Ravens...

27 posts in this topic

Someone needs to pull the Ravens staff and team aside, show them this video (below), and tell them to imagine themselves being talked to like that. Why? Because they're CHUMPS right now. Oh, they've got the decoration of elite players, and they've got "heart", they've got skill, yet for some odd reason, they can't get it together...

Hey Ravens...put that coffee down...stop celebrating you chumps! Coffee and celebrating are for CLOSERS only...

"I'd wish you good luck [Ravens], but you wouldn't know what to do with it".

I hope every single Ravens player reads that and watches that video. I also hope someone comes along and talks to these players like that.

"Oh, the O-line is weak, we've got hurt players, we've got a bad offensive play caller..." SHUT UP. Shut up ever single Ravens fan! All of you, fans, staff, players...freaking play...you all are supposed to be the best! You guys have the talent. TAKE THE SUPERBOWL....freakin' A!

Chumps...freakin' chumps.

I didn't know 9-4 teams that were one game out of the division lead were considered chumps, especially when they found a way to win in spite of their miscues and are this close to securing a playoff berth?

Yeah...The Falcons, The Steelers, The Pats...they all have winning records too. Only they close games...they beat people up. They know what they want. They'll better than us...not in any absolute sense, but because they do more than just seek a "winning record". They use all the talent they've got...unlike the chumps wearing purple. They should be ashamed of the way they've played this year...

When they start playing with all they've got...because it's there...then they will dominate any team. Until then, they're just chumps. Out there playing the game without all the talent they've got. Sad really.

You do realize in those 3 games we lost by a combined like 9 points right?

And the Steelers got their behinds spanked by the Pats, something we have yet to happen to us.

And they've also been beaten up too. The Pats spanked the Steelers and the Browns battered the Pats. Can you say the same about the Ravens? For all their shortcomings, inconsistency and just downright terrible play at times, no team has outclassed them for 60 minutes this season and no team in the NFL can say the same this year.

Call them chumps all you want but you're sadly mistake if you think this team has no holes and should be 13-0 or whatever. And posting a usless Alec Baldwin speech from a movie just makes your point that more ridiculous.

You do realize in all those games we embarrassed ourselves? Didn't we lead in all those games? Didn't we also fail to get our offense going at some point in those games? Didn't our defense collapse in two of those games? I really don't care, frankly, how many points you can add up. We should have won...

we didn't because we can't close games...get the theme here?

Defense didnt collapse in the Steelers game at all. Giving up 10 points to the Pats in the 2nd half is hardly collapsing and the defense actually got the Patriots to go 3 and out twice in OT. The offense has struggled all year long but to say this team is a bunch of chumps is laughable.

Really? Of course, they should have won; they didn't. Life goes on and so does the season.

If the talent level was as high as people believe, why would the team collapse so often in the second half or come out horribly slow in others? There are recognizable names on both sides of the ball and a few of units are very talented but overall, the talent level of this team is not on the level some people have it in their heads.

What is with this envy of other teams around the league? Why not appreciate what we already have in Baltimore?

Two consecutive playoff seasons with a third on the horizon. Pro Bowlers at virtually every skill position. Depth that 90% of the league would kill to have. A rising young QB under center after a long-suffering history at the position. Two starter-quality RBs. A FB that has also played well at tailback. A proud defense that has two future Hall of Fame players in the best ballhawk in NFL history and the best MLB in NFL history. A competitive showing against all of the league's best teams over the course of three seasons. One of the league's best road records over the past three years and one of the top 5 home records in the past decade.

Why look longingly at other teams when there's already a good one right under our noses? Why care what they're doing outside of Baltimore? This team is no longer a team of malcontents or thugs and is no longer the laughingstock of the league after a loss. Game attendance is at all all-time high, Ravens gear is showing up nationwide, and the team has an international following. More importantly, the team has a Super Bowl window that is open much, much longer and far beyond our beloved veterans' impending retirements.

There are several, several reasons to love being a Ravens fan. Playing under expectations shouldn't be enough to call them "chumps" when all they've done is be competitive and have a good enough record to make the playoffs. All any fan can ever ask of their team is to make the playoffs so that they have the chance go to a Super Bowl and win.

What's our record again? Oh right, 9-4. What's the worst we lost by this season? Oh right, 5 points.

Expectations have been so lofty this season, that everything is so outrageously blown out of proportion this year it isn't even funny. I'm not saying that there's nothing about this team to be upset about, but it seems even the smallest mistake or miscue is inflated into a disaster by some people here. We've had 3 consecutive winning seasons, that's the longest streak of winning seasons in the history of the Ravens. The same can be said for consecutive playoff appearances. This team has been successful since Harbaugh and Flacco came into the picture. However, that's not good enough for some people. They apparently expect shut outs every week with a 16-0 regular season record and Super Bowl victory, instead of enjoying a 9-4 record (as of right now) and still being very much in contention for a Lombardi at the end of the year.

We don't "close out games", but last I checked, "Closed Out Games" weren't a statistic, they don't weigh into a team's record. So at the end of the day, we're 9-4.

Sadly I have only 2 negative reps to use today...ah well there's always tomorrow :D
Seriously, if you are all that up on the Steelers, Pats etc... in the words of Harb's (basically) go cheer for them. The way I see it the team has worked hard for every win this year and I'm proud to say they own a 9-4 record.

Expectations are what this is all about. You hear it on sports talk radio all day. You read it everywhere, including postings on this forum.

Expectations.

Remember 2008? Week 1, at home against the Bengals? I was there. Barely win...2 touchdowns on offense, 1 an end around by Clayton and another on a run by Flacco on a busted play. Let's Go Flacco was coming out of nowhere from the stands by the 2nd quarter...everyone was freaking out.

Yet, from that moment on for the rest of the year, Flacco was the man and the Raven's were the sh**t.

Our expectations for that year were low. The team exceeded them by far.

This year? Super Bowl or bust.

Our expectations are very, very high. To high, to be honest with ya'll. But, they are what they are.

So, based off of expectations for this year, I sympathize with the OP. Besides, the video was a classic.

We expect perfection from this team this year. We are not getting it, so people are pissed.

As far as I am concerned, I'm content with the win and let's move on. I was as pissed as anyone watching us flounder in the 2nd half...I think every piece of furniture in my living room was not in its original place by the end of the game.

I have no sense as to how far this team can go...one and done or all the way. We don't know and luck will play a huge part just as it does for every team that wins the super bowl or just goes deep in the playoffs.

I do know a couple things...some already mentioned....we have yet to be blown out in any game. I have never seen that in any Raven's team....ever. We have been very fortunate with injuries....much better then the average team this year...look at the Packers. Great team killed by injuries.

Regardless, if we get lucky with match ups in the playoffs and stay healthy, we can go far...maybe all the way. I, for one, am going to enjoy the ride.
