No, I agree and I'm not trying to bring that debate up. It's cool to see two guys from the same draft class turn into the best young QBs in the NFL.
100 percent agree. In a couple more years when these guys have really had a chance to develop fans of other teams will be using them as the gold standards for their young qbs.

I wanna see Flacco grab his lineman after he gets sacked or has to throw a ball away because of a missed block, and say something along the lines of,"Hey, how about you get back here and get hit, and I'll stand here and not block for you." Or grab Cam and say,"Hey, how about you send Zorn out there and tell him to find someone to throw to when you only give me 2 Wr and send them both on streaks."
Do you mean grab the facemask like Woody Hayes?

I wish I understood all the postings on the Ravens site but I don't. We talk about tons of football among my friends, though most of us are girls we still know alot about football and our hometown team but you guys talk like we are the best team in who league and we aren't. Joe is cool but he isn't a great quarterback. Our Offense is pretty good but not nearly good enough to win a superbowl. Our defense is strong but we can't stop the other guys when it means the most. If we don't win tonight most of my girlfriends say we wont make the playoffs because we still have three really hard games. Isn't there someone who tells things like it is on here. Aren't we just an OK team?
this forum is pretty reactionary as we tend to post on emotions within hours of a game ending. if anything there has been constant bashing of the ravens since the steelers lost and it's a few of us that have not given up hope.

the bashing of the ravens after the steelers lost spread into "real life" causing coach harbs to say..fans are either with the ravens or against the ravens...and if they don't like it they can find another team to cheer for.

welcome to the boards!

I didn't want it to be a comparison so I thought I would be nice and leave that part out.

If Flacco is in a short list with Marino at the top it is no small thing.
I have Marino's football card at hand for good luck.

Their success is tied, IMO, because of how similar the teams are. Good running games to lean on (at least initially, when they were drafted, but right now I'd give the edge to Falcons), solid OL, good defense, great young disciplined HC. That's the formula required for a young QB to succeed.

OK teams don't have 9-4 records.

As Flyn said, this is the NFL and OK teams dont go 9-4 in the NFL. We are a very good team but we have our problems like anyone else. I am one of the fans that believes most of our problems are playing way to conservative when we dont need to. Either or all we have to do is make the playoffs I can bet you most teams will not look forward to playing us there.

There are plenty of negative fans around here who will tell you we are worse than just an ok team but everyone has there opinion and only time and ourplayoff run will tell.

Its good to see Joe stand up in the face of some recent critics. All I can say is look at his numbers. They are right up there with some pretty darned good QB's in thier first 3 years. He is not perfect and can still become even better. I thought given the protection last night, which I thought was poor most of the night, Flacco had a very good game. First 2 years in the league, he has played 4 playoff games, and won 3 of those. I could be wrong but I do not think another QB has ever done that.

Agreed 100%, in the heat of the moment I don't think its a good idea to yell at them. Some players don't respond well to it.
If you yell at me I don't work as good because I don't want to work as good. So I agree to... be nice to me and I'll try to help you but be a dick? Get out of my face I hope you get sacked hard. lol

This.

Why dont peoe get that. Ravens fans have expected flacco to be putting up tom brady stats since the day he first stepped on the field. He has very comparable, if not better stats than brees, rivers, brady and manning in their first 3 seasons in the league.

I don't want Joe to yell ala Brady, Rivers, Manning. I did like to see him letting others know his frustrations last night though. Did anyone else notice Cam trying to talk to him on the sidelines the 2nd half and Joe just kept on walking? He yelled at Housh for wasting time arguing with the ref instead of getting back to the line. And he had a conversation with Mason about a missed route.

This O line though, man. They need fixed fast.

The problem with the offense is the strategy Cam uses.
Ravens are a high powered offense but Cam only has plays designed for a running offense with very little throwing.
I am beginning to believe that Cam was not prepared in the offseason for the addition of Housh, Bolding and Stallworth and therefore he did not design plays for a throwing offense.

It is not the players who need to step up as much as it is the coaches.

Joe can be an elite QB right now and we would not know because of the coaches.
I would say Joe is one of the Elite QB's simply because he has kept his QB rating above 100 since game 2 and has made good decisions and has not thrown INT's.

What Joe lacks he will gain in the next year or two and that is Leadership. Joe needs to be the leader of the team.

Joe played as well as he could yesterday. He was awesome in the first half and should have had 3 TD passes if Mason catches that deep pass. Whatever mess the Ravens call the second half falls squarely on the o-line for not blocking and Cam Cam for once again failing to make proper adjustments at halftime.

Agreed on all counts.

To me, the talk about him needing "a fire" is just redundant though. The man celebrates after every big touchdown. He'll probably never sit the entire offense down and get in their faces but numerous QBs in this league have been successful without doing that.
I don't mean to critisize you personally but I hear so many people put fire and celebrations in the same sentence. This is a superficial judgement. Even cheerleaders celebrate after a TD. Playing with fire is mroe about having a constant drive throughout the game, a sense of urgency that every play is important and "we're going to make it happen". I don't get that from Joe or our offense as a whole. When Joe has the intensity, concentration, and ability to adjust that Ray Ray has on defense, then you can say he plays with fire.

also, I have not seen or heard the interview, but if Joe says he will play the same way, that can be arrogance as much as confience. Given the way the offense has played much of the season, there is room for change.

Now THAT'S fire. Be your own man Joe so we can see if the problem is you or Cam. Right now we cannot always tell if it's bad play calling or bad execution.

Problem is when you tell it like it is you get negative votes and accused of not being a true bleed purble loyal Raven fan. I agree with most of your points. The Ravens have underperformed this year. Why? Bad chemsitry. Bad planning. Bad execution. Overrated players. Who knows? I will disagree with you slightly on the defense. The D has had some bad games, but some of the credit for blowing leads in the 4th Q can be attributed to the offense not staying on the field long enough. In the Texans game the offense had something like 16 plays and 71 yards of offense in the second half. I don't know how TOP broke down for the second half but I would bet it was not in our favor. Our D was dog tired at the end in large part because they had no time to rest. In the Steeler game they were put in a terrible situatin by the offense with the fumble. In NE, the offense had no answer for second half adjustments in defense. We do not have a SB caliber team. That's not disloyalty, that's an observation based on team perfomrance. (And not everyone, it's not just about W's and L's, but how you play the game as well.)

if not dumb mistakes we could be a 13-0 team right now, keep that in mind
True, but dumb or not, mistakes are part of a team's character and when you display that same character in nearly every game (win or lose) it is not likely you will be a championship caliber team if you reach the POs.

Its the way people do it....

Those that say:

"We're done"
"We suck"
"One and done"
"We're not worthy"
"We'll never win another ring"

AND then when we win come back here apologize and tuck their tail just look like huge morons and those people, in my opinion, are just fair weather fans and bug the hell out of me!

Flacco is definitely not reached the elite status yet. But who knows with a couple game changing personal fouls, and a O- line that can hold at will. He might reach Peyton and Tom status soon.

Well that's ridiculous. I mean maybe you don't care much about your job or maybe you have a bad day and don't wanna hear it, but these guys are professionals and make a TON of money. Football players don't thrive on soft words, they thrive on their quarterback telling them to man up and protect him, or get off the field. That's what a QB is supposed to say, and he's supposed to mean it. Flacco's supposed to grab Mason's facemask when Mason gets in his face, because after all MASON dropped a very catchable pass when we needed it, not Flacco. If I didn't see that fire I'd be embarrassed for Flacco and for the team.

No, they are frustrated, disappointed fans who are giving their assessment of the team's performance from their point of view. I believe one of the mods noted this elsewhere on a closed thread, but it's not right to put yourself in someone else's head and accuse them of not being a "true fan" becuase they don't have the same level of optimism that others may have. If everyone would stop judging one another's fanhood on this board we could elliminate a lot of noise in the posts. Feel free to disagree with someone's opinion and have a healthy debate, but don't call out someone's commitment to the team. I don't expect the Ravens to win against NO based on they way the two teams have played over the last few weeks. That does not mean I want the Ravens to lose or that I have no faith that they could pull it off, but based on what I have seen, my prediction is a loss. Nevertheless, I am a fan and I will be at the game cheering my team on.

Flacco is still a developing player. He shows flashes of greatness and we must be patient with him. It'll come around. I have faith in Flacco. To see that he's giving it back to his players and holding them accountable is showing that he's becoming more of a leader. It'll only be a matter of time before it clicks. That's what happens. Just wait for it. It will happen.

Go Flacco!

Alright. I'll buy you're argument that celebrating passionately doesn't necessarily mean you play with intensity. But when you watched guys like Johnny U, Joe Monatna, Warren Moon and Steve McNair Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers today, did/do you see a "fire"? I certainly didn't/don't but all of the players I named have enjoyed varying levels of success.

I don't see how Joe saying he'll play the same way is arrogance when when he's been given time, he's usually come through for this team. He definitely needs to improve in a number of things he does but if there's "room for change" with any part of the offense, it starts with the o-line.

Yeah I was thinking that too. It would be a shame to see Joe turn into Manning, because Joe's not popular enough to choke in big games, throw his teammates under the bus, and run off the field without congratulating the other team and still have everyone like him for some reason.
