"i Am An Elite Quarterback" --- Joe Flacco ---

266 posts in this topic

he said he will keep playing the way he has been playing against the texans.

harbs is just waiting for flacco to take over on his own time and become that angrier and agressive QB.

i'll provide a link ASAP or someone can post one...but i just heard it on ESPN about 6:20pm

I just watched that too. I think its great that Joe Flacco has the confidence to say that! Harbaugh is right too, Flacco needs more fire inside of him. MAYBBEE he will get that fire when Cam Cameron lets go of his hand.

But.. But.. But.. we just had a whole topic about how he wasn't! How dare he defy that!

Joe Flacco isn't "elite" in my book just yet. He's well on his way, his performance has been outstanding, but "elite" is pushing it. I'll tell you what, though, there's a very short list of quarterbacks I would rather have than Joe Flacco..

Also, is this the "confidence" the early Flacco-haters say Joe lacks? Jeez, I love it when I don't even have to defend him anymore.

The clip probably won't be posted until tomorrow but I believe I heard the same quote in passing with the TV on low.

I like this confidence. He's not saying it with arrogance, he's saying it because he believes it. While we don't know yet whether he can be the elite QB that some pundits are projecting him to be, I'm perfectly fine with him being a good QB.

Agreed on all counts.

To me, the talk about him needing "a fire" is just redundant though. The man celebrates after every big touchdown. He'll probably never sit the entire offense down and get in their faces but numerous QBs in this league have been successful without doing that.

I think this means that he is ready to prove it. I just hope his confidence doesn't turn into Sanchez's so called confidence, haha doubt it.

Doesn't he know that we as fans determine his status? The nerve of this guy....

I agree with Harbaugh, and with what you said Berad. Elite is pushing it, but he's well on his way. I can only imagine how Flacco would do with a consistent offensive line and a little more fire.

in a past thread...in so many words I said:
i truly believe cam cameron will not take the handcuffs off of Flacco. Joe will have to break the chains and rebel in order to truly become a leader. cam is only a test in the pursuit of eliteness.

food for thought...

I wanna see Flacco grab his lineman after he gets sacked or has to throw a ball away because of a missed block, and say something along the lines of,"Hey, how about you get back here and get hit, and I'll stand here and not block for you." Or grab Cam and say,"Hey, how about you send Zorn out there and tell him to find someone to throw to when you only give me 2 Wr and send them both on streaks."

Yelling at the guys blocking for you isn't a good idea. They know what they did wrong, let them correct it. They don't need their quarterback to yell at them, along with the line coach.

Uh... that's definitely not the way to go about things. Going around grabbing people and yelling in their face isn't going to get people to say "Hey, Flacco's starting to show more emotion and leadership!". It's going to have people thinking he has an attitude problem now and developed a diva attitude. There's nothing wrong with having a friendly chat with your team mates and staff, but you don't need to be a jerk about it.

Agreed 100%, in the heat of the moment I don't think its a good idea to yell at them. Some players don't respond well to it.

Yeah, I know. I actually commend the guy. His defense, line, and other players have let him down many times this season, but he doesn't call anyone out. If I were the one taking the hits because someone missed their assignment, I wouldn't be nearly as calm.
Like this?
Exactly.
This guy has tremendous talent. I wouldn't say he isn't confident, but I think he still doesn't play with as much...idk. He's like, right at the threshold of greatness, and I just wanna see him break it open, you know?

I'll be more clear. I'm not suggesting that Flacco yell at his players, rather that at times I myself would if I were in his shoes. Sometimes it's his fault for holding the ball too long, but more often, he's running for his life and I'm watching with some explitives being spewed at our line. Ofcourse, that is why he's our qb and I'm a fan. ;)

Not really man. He's just not a fiery guy. That doesn't mean he's not trying hard to be great.

Not fiery in his personality. In his play. I'm not questioning his personality or work ethic. I merely am anticipating the day when Flacco comes into his own as a passer, and lights up the competition.

Hopefully our offensive line, namely the right side, is still a work in progress. Right guard Marshal Yanda was moved to right tackle and Chris Chester was inserted at the right guard position. Yanda is still learning the tackle position and is struggling somewhat. Chester has played guard but not nearly as well as Yanda. I've been promoting the prospect of acquiring a right tackle and moving Yanda back to his more natural guard position but if the guys we have can develope then OK.

I hope this works out. This O line issue we've been having for quite some time is getting frustrating.

I wish I understood all the postings on the Ravens site but I don't. We talk about tons of football among my friends, though most of us are girls we still know alot about football and our hometown team but you guys talk like we are the best team in who league and we aren't. Joe is cool but he isn't a great quarterback. Our Offense is pretty good but not nearly good enough to win a superbowl. Our defense is strong but we can't stop the other guys when it means the most. If we don't win tonight most of my girlfriends say we wont make the playoffs because we still have three really hard games. Isn't there someone who tells things like it is on here. Aren't we just an OK team?

I just saw on MNF countdown that Flacco is actually in rarified air after 3 seasons. He is the 4th most winningest qb since the merger at 28 wins and he will likely overtake a certain current steeler qb at 29 before the end of the season.

That is no small achievement since it is Marino himself that leads the pack at 33.

I didn't want it to be a comparison so I thought I would be nice and leave that part out.

If Flacco is in a short list with Marino at the top it is no small thing.

No, I agree and I'm not trying to bring that debate up. It's cool to see two guys from the same draft class turn into the best young QBs in the NFL.
