Megatron Getting Frustrated...

22 posts in this topic

Lions WR Calvin Johnson made some pretty frank comments yesterday about the losing he's experienced since becoming a Lion and hinted that he'd leave if the losing continues. His exact words can be found in this link.

Barring major injury, Megatron will be in his prime in 2013, when he turns 28. So if Detroit hasn't turned it around by then, it would be pretty interesting to see teams falling over themselves to sign him.

To me, he's the most talented WR to ever play the game and I'd like to see him play for a winning team before he gets too old.

Come to the Ravens, we collect receivers and then we don't use them effectively. We do win games though.

This will be after this year or at least within two or three years, and I doubt we'll have he who shall not be named when Calvin wants to be moved. Still, I just wouldn't know what to say if we ever traded for him to compliment Q. Wow

Megatron is a total beast in every sense of the word, and that word gets thrown around alot, but he is an actual BEAST. I dont blame him if he wants to leave eventually, frankly its nice to see a guy want to win instead of chasing "straight cash homey".

I think he sees the writing on the wall that Matt Stafford will never stay healthy. Therefore, the Lions will continue to lose. I think the Lions have another bust at QB, unfortunately its not for lack of talent. The guy is as fragile as a carton of eggs.

The Lions are actually a good building team. He might as well stay there. The division could be weak next year with the now QB-less Vikings. I also doubt Cutler's impressive play will last into next year. Plus Stafford will be back.

I also think they play both west divisions next year, so you can't ask for a better time to win.

How does Calvin Johson and Anquan Boldin sound for a receiving duo? Why don't we also pick up Fitzy from Arizona too. Reunite the real Dynamic Duo and them form them into the... uh... Three Musketeers? *shrugs* It'd never happen, but that'd be one hell of a receiving corp.

Seriously though, I can't quite blame Calvin for being frustrated. He's one of the best in the league... and stuck on a team that's stuck in neutral. Although, I don't know if I'd give up on the Lions just yet. All the pieces are there, Best, Suh, Johnson, Pettigrew, Delmas. Stafford is the wildcard, and it's solely based on his durability. So I'm not quite sure I'd already set my sights on leaving just yet, Megatron.

Calvin Johnson coming to the Ravens next season wouldn't be so far-fetched. Though he'll want a fair contract, he wouldn't ask for the largest contract at his position if he feels that this is a situation where he can win. Furthermore, Mason could theoretically retire after this season (assuming he doesn't reach a contract extension), and regardless of whether Mason stays, Houshmandzadeh will likely bolt after this season for a team that actually needs his services as a #1 or #2 receiver. Stallworth is also working under a one-year deal so he'll be gone after this year unless he is re-signed.

Boldin and Johnson lined up on each side of the field......that would be something man. Joe could be like Mark Rypien in his SB year, just throw the ball as far as you can and someone will get it lol

I wouldn't mind if Housh is gone after this year. Stallworth I'd like to keep, he's made a few great end-arounds, and that catch in Pittsburgh was great. Keeping him around to see what a full year can do for him wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Now... when it comes to Johnson and Mason, that'd be interesting. No doubt Boldin and Johnson would be 1 and 2 (or A1 and A2, depending on how you see it). Mason would be knocked down to number 3 regardless. Personally, I don't think that'd decrease his looks too much. I could see no feasible way that a team could keep both Boldin and Johnson in check without leaving the crafty Mason to his own devices. That'd be a fantastic situation to be in, and one hell of a receiving corp for any team to keep in check. With Flacco's arm, you could really stretch the field with Heap, Johnson, Dickson, and Stallworth, while letting Mason and Boldin do their thing underneath.

Oh. My. God.Maybe this is why Oz ignored my rants for Randy Moss. He is waiting for Megatron to go up for grabs.Wow...that would be devastating...

I would say the Lions could trade him in the off-season but than that would force them to take AJ Green in the draft or trade for another receiver(Vincent Jackson, well actually that wouldn't be a bad idea, VJ and like 2 1st Rounders for Calvin) and if they take AJ Green that would deter them from taking Patrick Peterson to finally get a shut down corner. I think Detroit should hold on to him for 1 more year, get some offensive line help in the off-season(they can take Gaither if they want) and see what happen.

I know Detroit would get some team to mortgage their future to get Calvin, like I said it probably would take 2 first rounders, because I don't see Detroit letting him walk for nothing.

I like Calvin Johnson, but would love for a "home grown" receiver that the Ravens draft. Ozzie has already drafted a HOF OL, LB, and FS. Imagine adding a receiver to that list.

But hey with Calvin Johnson and his massive height, Cam's fades in the end zone could finally work for once!

Do you remember who our offensive corrdinator is, other teams wont have to keep them in check, Cam would squander it all by himself

What do you guys think it would take to get Calvin in the offseason?
Well, Detroit traded away Roy Williams for a 1st, 3rd and 6th round pick back in '08, so I'd somewhere along the lines of that.

If Mason retired, Housh left, and we only had Q, Stallworth and Reed, you think Ozzie would make a play?

Not. I think he'd make a play for a FA WR. The D has performed better in recent weeks but there are too many holes on both sides of the ball not to fill through the draft.
