I was on ESPN reading some articles and I came across this one.

I just want to comment on one bit real quick.

Jack LB is a for sure area we need to upgrade, simply so our defense doesnt totally fall off the map when Ray retires. There has to be a constant in the middle who is an impact player. Having said that, Bart destroyed Gs in rush defense, he was never a great pass rusher after 06 when we had the best LB unit in the entire NFL. Leonhard may be an upgrade over Landry (maybe), Leonhard doesnt miss that tackle on Redman and is a far more reliable tackler than Landry, at the very worst drags Redman down or slows him to the point others can rally to Redman. But Leonhard is not a good cover safety, which has been well documented this year.

Well the offense is set. It's a matter of the coaching staff within the offense that needs to step up.

This is regarding defense and the SS/ILB positions. Go talk offense in one of the other 5,000 threads. I will not bring up "He who must not be named" in this thread.

Well said and I agree completely.

I doubt Landry has the speaker in his helmet. Considering Ray didn't have it when Rex was here, I don't know who does now but I don't think it's Dawan.

I think I read an article on here from last year saying Dawan was the guys practicing with it.

Does Ray not like hearing the voice in the sky? He seems like an easy choice for the mic...besides his helmet has the green dot on the back signifying a live mic...or am I seeing something way off base lol?

Must have missed that. Maybe he is. Dude needs to work on form tackling though.

Yeah, Ray has the speaker in his helmet. I don't know about when Rex was here, though, whether that was even utilized, but I assume it was.

My understanding always was that Ray and Ed didn't have the headsets and did everything old school with signals from the sideline, I remember Jon Gruden or someone talking about how they're old school

Scott was too expensive, with the re-signings of Suggs and Lewis, but letting Leonhard go was a mistake obviously.

Hes not a good coverage safety, but is very good good in everything else. Hes also a sure tackler which can't be said for Lnadry (which he needs to be, since hes not very good at anything else)

Which position do you think is of greater need though? I would say ILB because, as much as I haven't noticed many slips from McClain this year, no one we have is anywhere in the league of Ray, and that will be a major position of need soon. I honestly believe we should rotate Landry with Zibby and Haruki more. I think they could both probably do a good job there.
