Walsh And The Tapes....

The New York Times obtained a list of the Walsh tapes, and the league confirmed that list, which says that the Patriots taped offensive and defensive coaches in regular-season games against the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers. The team also made video of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 AFC Championship Game.

Walsh's tapes do not include the video of the St. Louis Rams' walkthrough before the 2002 Super Bowl, as reported by the Boston Herald.

i've got a big bucket of popcorn, anybody want to share???? ^_^

Basically, he gave up the tapes the Pats already admitted existed. There was nothing that there that they didnt admit to doing. I am angry, the media built up all this anticipation about the tape of the Rams superbowl walk through and it probably doesnt even exist. I am begining to think this whole thing was a publicity stunt by Walsh. Holding out for months to build speculation and keeping his name in the press. What a waste of time. I am angry that I ever even cared.

i am (like most fans and people in/around the NFL today) are somewhat disappointed because the fact that Walsh continually said that he had the Tape of the Ram's walk-through back then... then the day finally comes for him to present it, and what does he do?...... he sends 4 tapes of other games they taped, which is good, but not like what we all "wanted" with the Rams Tape. so am i a little disappointed? yes.... am i happy that the NFL finally has proof that the Patriots were cheating? yes, but it still doesn't take anything away from the Rams walk through tape...

i am saying that he still has th e tapes, and i can just picture it now..... someone breaks into his house steals the tapes, copy them, and then releasing them to the public.

well IF these proclaimed "tapes" are indeed real and really out there, there is no doubt that they will eventually end up on the web...... may be the whole deal, maybe only in segments but im betting they'll be up there at some point in time IF they do indeed exist.

"wheeling and dealing" i think is the phrase that come to mind here. simply because of the fact that he has alot of different options to go with, IF he does have the tapes, in which could get him a lot of money. lol but is it a likely scenario? lol no.

I don't think it was a publicity stunt to keep his name in the media. If I were in his shoes and had loyalty to the Pats, I'd refuse to hand them over and tell the press to go away.

Edit: I havent been paying attention to the case that much cuz I find it sports sensationalism, so I may be missing out on a few facts.

Matt Walsh went from stating (very clearly) that he indeed had tapes or A tape that the patriots had done of the Rams prior to their Super Bowl appearence and eventual victory, but then as of just recently, told the NFL that he had no such tape and, to me thats part of the reason why this whole deal was as big in the media as it had become.

Simply because of the Fact that, Walsh stated that he did have the tape in which the patriots illegally video taped the Rams 2001 walk through prior to the SuperBowl. Then to have him turn around and say that "oh no i dont have it" and to say that he has no knowledge of such a tape ever be recorded.

devils advocate here but, doesnt seem as though, he went back on his word, lied to not only the NFL, but to the general public whom were interested to such a story, especially considering the fact that the Patriots are as big of a name Team, as anyone could possibly imagine, because they are "3 time World Champions".

but alas it is what it is, and there is no tape to be found.... (as of yet at least) but one thing has been proven to everyone now, the Patriots did or have in fact, cheated to try and gain an extra edge over their opponents.

patriots simply= cheaters

Every team cheats or bends the rules in their own way. The Patriots simply got caught.

I think Arlen Specter's desire to pursue this further is ridiculous, and it's amazing that a politician would be more worried about an issue in sports than other problems in his own state.

And he CLAIMS to be catering to his constituents who HAPPEN to be Steelers and Eagles fans "affected" by this, but really, he's just trying to buy CHEAP votes by pretending to care so deeply about it. That, and he's making himself look senile.

Look, what happened, happened. It doesn't seem as if the Patriots used those tapes in the SAME games, and if a team is stupid enough to recycle the SAME signals in rematches, then that's on them. ESPECIALLY if that team is a divisional opponent, in which case, they should ALWAYS take extra precautions.

It's only a step above (or below, depending on how you look at it) having a player on the bench scout the other team's bench to see which gestures are being used for each play and connecting the dots mentally. The only difference is that technology is involved, making it arguably quicker to process and cull information.

But technology can only help so much, as the outcome of the game is decided by what happens on the field. Even if a team KNOWS what the other team will do next, they still have to PHYSICALLY STOP the other team. Taking the mental edge away can only do so much if the physical execution isn't there.
