Cousins

Ok before you give me any flack, this isn't a "start cousins" thread.

That being said, the last time we really had any success running the football was when he was subbing for an injured Oher at LT.

My question is that do any of you think that there would be any benefit at all from starting Cousins at RT and moving Yanda back to his natural position of RG.

We need to find a way to get this running game going, because it's painfully obvious that the lack thereof is not allowing the Ravens offense to close out games like they once were so great at.

How many times in years past were the Ravens up by a TD or less with 5 minutes to go and they just mashing the opposing defense on the ground.

The addition of receivers like Boldin, Housh, and Stallworth was exciting at first because we were all certain that the Ravens would be able to have success running the ball to open it up for the passing game. Which brings me to the next point.

The Oline has not been protecting Flacco, you can say what you want about him holding the ball too long but there also has been so many times when he just had no chance at all. Do you think that moving Yanda back to Guard and Cousins to RT could help at all in that area?

From a pass-protection standpoint, Cousins wouldn't help at all. But, moving Yanda to back to guard, and cousins to tackle, would help the run game tremendously. Yanda and Cousins are just maulers, we could run behind them. We really can't run behind Chester and Yanda. But like I said, from a pass-pro standpoint, Cousins wouldnt help.

Frank Walker 2.0? Between the flags and not being able to pass protect his way out of a wet paper bag, I dont think it warrants seeing if he can help us at all in the run game, unless he's part of a heavy package or something like that.

Now that's an idea! It seems like last year Cam used tons of unbalanced sets and heavy packages. And it WORKED. I don't know why we aren't doing it as much this year. We all know Cousins can't pass protect but if we just line him up at TE and have him smash the LoS maybe we could actually use him to help get the running game going.

Honestly, the running game couldn't possibly be worse than it is now, with a guy like Rice running the ball our YPC average is pathetic.

That was another point that I missed, glad you mentioned it.

I wonder why we haven't used Cousins in more unbalanced formations, at one time the Ravens were almost unstoppable when they ran unbalanced to the left with a 3rd tackle lined up at TE.

it comes down to schemes that we are running or not running which falls back on one man... :34853_brickwall:

What a ridiculous misconception. Sure Cam deserves some of the blame. But he's not the one being dominated at LoS, or dancing in the backfield and getting dropped for a loss. Cam can make up any scheme in the world and it won't work unless the players execute. Both Cam and the RBs/O-Line must share the responsibility.

i was responding to jeeper on why we have not run unbalanced formations. last time i checked it does fall on Cam as far as which offense schemes we run.

I agree that Cam should try the unbalanced line more often because I think it could help remedy our running game. But I don't think that's a good enough excuse for why our running game has been so ineffective. Cam's run the ball just as much as last year (In fact, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron is calling as many running plays this year (an average of 29.9) as last year (29.2). that's from the baltimore sun).

The problem is that the execution just hasn't been there. If you're saying the Cam could improve the running game a bit by using the unbalanced line then I definitely agree. But if you're saying the main problem with the running game is Cam then I strongly disagree.
