Both he and Dickson have amazing hands. I think if we keep these two guys together they'd become our dynamic duo at TE. It would be a defensive matchup nightmare.

We are still leaning on Heap, while he continues to be "the man." Both the time will come for these two guys to really step up into a major role.

we are definetely in a good situation at tight end, this was the draft of the tight end and the oz man new it. i like the fact that they are learning behind such a stand up guy like todd

I was extremely high on the guy even before we drafted him, as some on here might remember. Watching him in college, I saw a smaller Jason Witten.

Dickson is a really good TE as well, but I'm going to stick to my guns, and say Pitta will eventually be the better player. He was blocking for most of the game, but when he did go out a couple times, I saw him open, but Flacco didn't really see him I guess.

Either way TE is one position we wont have to address for a long time.

To make a comparison to the Pats this season: I can definitely see Dickson as being our "Aaron Hernandez" and Pitta being used around the goal-line like "Rob Gronkowski". I would say our TE's are just as talented as those guys so there's no reason to think that we can't have our own version of that in a couple years. Dickson just needs to continue working on his hands (they're good, but as we all saw against Pitt, they could be better) and both our TE's need to work on their blocking.

I don't know about that comparison play style wise. I think they both have a very similar skill set(although I see more in Pitta), unlike Hernandez and Gronk.

But they similar in terms of giving defenses headaches, once we start using 2 TE sets with them.

I don't think Dickson has any problem with hid hands. That drop was just due to it being one of the first plays he was the primary TE. You wont see him drop many balls like that I assure you.

Pitta could have made a sizable catch and run had Joe hit him early in the second quarter. I hope he gets another target or two against the Texans even though Dickson is going to get the start.

As strange an opinion as this is, I'm weirdly excited that Heap may miss the Texans game so that we can see some more of these guys. Aside of Kindle, these were the two draft selections I was most excited about. (Behind Kindle because I knew he was good and didn't expect us to pick him up, Cody was expected so that made me satisfied rather than excited)

Not to turn this thread into a Flacco bashing one, but i can also remember Flacco missing Pitta on a play action pass that would have resulted in a TD and and a 14-9 lead with 6:43 left in the game. So Pitta has been open for some big plays this year.

Then i think back to the play Dickson made against the Broncos when he caught a long pass and drug Dawkins an extra 10-12 yards after the catch. Dickson is a big strong fast guy and he will be a nightmare match up for LBs and Safeties.

Pitta is a little bit more savvy as a route runner and could be the future Heap for Flacco. I think both of these guys will be really good for the offense as soon as they find their way.

I see those 2 guys being a major part of what we do going forward into next season and maybe even starting around playoff time. Heap will probably be out the next two games which that hamstring and that will give Dickson and Pitta the prefect opportunity to become assets to this offense right now.

I don't remember the play you're referring to but don't doubt it happened. There was also a play late against the Bengals where Joe overshot Pitta deep.

That deep ball to Dickson where he took Dawkins for a ride was sweet. Neither of Houston's safeties are good in coverage so we could see some of the same thing Monday night.

I agree with your final points.

Yeah, I don't think Dickson has any problems with his hands either; I just think that there's always room for improvement and I'm sure he would say the same thing. The catch he had earlier in the year against the Broncos with Dawkins covering him was about as good a catch as you'll see all year.

I completely understand. It does feel funny to say out loud, but I'm excited to see these guys get it going. How crazy would it be if Dickson or Pitta have such a beast few games, that we just can't sit them?

As much as I like both our TEs I think the Pats got the more complete TE in Gronkowski, an able blocking tight end as well as a good pass catcher.

However, I do want to see Pitta get some solid PT Monday Night

I am excited about both these young TEs. But we haven't seen much of Pitta unfortunately. His hands are amazing, he catches everything effortlessly it seems. I like Dickson's athleticism and ability in the passing game but he was getting MAULED by Harrison/Woodley in the Steelers game. Not trying to knock him but he was getting annihilated. It's a bit much to be trying to block the most dangerous pass rushers in the NFL in your first game as an NFL starter (at least he was the starter after HEAP went down early), in the fiercest divisional rivalry of the past decade. But still if he's going to be a lifelong Raven he needs to be able to go toe-to-toe with those guys twice a year and play well enough to win.

We could have a great duo of TEs in the near future. Dickson has the big play ability, where I see Pitta as a move-the-chains kind of guy.

Pitta must really have that little fish in a big pond thing going now...Goes from the offensive stud at BYU to the "will I even be active" guy in the NFL...that highlight reel didnt show me much of anything. There was no pressure on any of those catches, he was open by at least a yard or two on each play...

The 2nd and 3rd TE arent gonna see much action on this offense anytime soon.

Their blocking is quite bad, but if we can teach lanky old Heap how to block they have no excuses but to pick it up.
Both of them should, in time. Also, they don't need to become Alge Crumpler, but both need to add bulk as well.

I agree, I had Pitta ranked higher than Dickson on my cheat sheet too. I think he'll probably be slightly better than Dickson, but time will tell ... way too early to say for sure right now.

Has it been confirmed that Pitta will start? I assumed they would just based on my logic. Because Dickson has been getting more playing time, and many more chances further down field, so I feel like it is Pitta's turn now.

Everything I've read and that Dickson has been the #2 TE most of the season suggests he'll start Monday night. Pitta should get some opportunities though.

I thought you were saying that Dickson will start.
I think Pitta should to give him some opportunities. Dickson had that dropped pass, and didn't do well blocking. Pitta really hasn't got many looks other than throws around the LOS so far

Yes. Dickson has been the #2 TE behind Heap most of the season so with Todd likely to miss the Texans game, Ed will get bumped up to the #1 spot.

I completely misread your original post.
I am not sure who is getting the most reps in practice, but I would not be surprised if Pitta either started, or got at least close to half of the playing time.
Going against the Texans poor safeties, 2 TE sets would be extremely beneficial. And I think it'll be completely necessary to establish a real running game if Cam decided to go that route before the 3rd quarter.

Alge Crumpler or Bo Scaife would fit right into this offense!

I just read this article that said Dickson and Pitta shared first team snaps on Wednesday so they may split snaps during the game.

At this point, I just want to the offense put up points and not have drives stall due to their own mistakes.
