Mr. Head And Shoulders Named Afc Defensive Player Of Week

31 posts in this topic

Just read it on the Steelers website. It should have gone to Suggs. Not only did Suggs have better stats but his sacks and pressures came from beating the man in front of him. Whereas Polamalu gets praised for coming unblocked. He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but 95% of players would do the same thing if they come completely free like that.

Suggs would've gotten it if we won. It just so happened that Troy happened to make the one play that changed the outlook of that game. Which is more deservingly than an all out effort in a loss. We could've used one play like that ourselves.

What bugs me is what Troy did was nothing special. He came unblocked and yet people are acting like its the greatest defensive play since Harrison's 100 yard interception return in the SB.

I agree with you. But it isn't a coincidence that he's always in the right spot making game-changing plays.

Might as well throw this one in here as well. No need for two threads. But did you guys hear that Hines Ward and the Steelers were nominated for UN Peace awards?

Troy made one play. Terrell Suggs was a one-man wrecking crew.

I love watching that Suggs. In fact I compiled all of his plays and put it on a DVD. I took it home and I watched that DVD over and over again drooling.

Doesn't surprise me. Roethlisberger won an Emmy with his acting and coach Tomlin is getting the Pulitzer Prize for some reason. Now he can add that to his Nobel Peace Prize for the time he called a timeout when the other team was about to attempt a trick play (remember that gem?).

According to the article, all Ward really did was be born biracial and for some reason that "changed the cultural landscape of Korea". Aren't we a little over-gratuitous, nation of Korea?

It's been said multiple times that Polamalu has permission to go and do as he pleases out there so he gets the credit for being where he was on that play.

This is starting to turn into a hate thread, of course he won AFC player of the week since the Steelers went on to win the game. They don't give honors like that to losing teams.

As much as I hate Hiney as a football player, I admire him for his efforts in S. Korea. Some there can be very jingoistic and his efforts are making things a little better for a lot of people.

Suggs would not even want it. When people were praising him saying this was one of his best games, he immediately diverted the praise because they did not win the game as an end result. There are no moral victories for him.

Suggs was a beast that night, but he could have stripped the ball and gotten a sack himself in a crucial moment, but Ben beat him to avoid both.

Troy got both. And as stated already, Troy's play changed the game.

Not to mention that Suggs is an elite going up against a backup LT. Our o-line is horrible this year. We made the Patriots defense look like the '85 Bears as well.

^Oh yeah because we know tackling Roethlisberger is the same as tackling Flacco. Big Ben is at least 30lb over his listed weight.

It doesn't stop there, it seems the media machine thinks Polamalu is DPotY

Suggs tried to take the ball and couldn't. Defensive players are taught to "tackle the ball instead of Ben." Still, one player made the play when it counted and the other didn't. If you look at Troys impact this season It's tough not to make an argument. He's made huge plays at key points more than once.

Palamalu has played well this year, but as of right now he's not a DPOY candidate...you said it yourself a couple weeks ago Warden wondering why Polamalu hasnt had the same impact on the defense as he had in 08, and you hypothesized that it was because Lebeau was using Timmons the same way he was using Polamalu before Timmons came into his own. One play does not catapult you into DPOY.

Steeler boards were saying he's been a liability in coverage for most of the season, then he make two clutch plays in consecutive weeks and he's the best defender this season?

Yep. Flacco faked him out for the TD. Though it's asking a lot to cover a guy for such a long time. Regardless, is that a DPOW quality play?

In my eyes he made a big play and gave up a big play.

But at least he knows when to go for the ball. I felt sick watching Suggs and McClain (on a 25 yard pass play) struggle to rip the ball from a guy who knew they were trying to get him to fumble.

(some) Ravens fans have been saying Flacco is not a good QB. Who cares what fans say?

He was quiet for 2-3 games, but that doesn't negate his impact this season.

Flacco didn't fake him out. Boldin took advantage of the DB's watching Flacco by that point and ran to the open spot. If anyone made the smart play there it was Boldin and that happens in coverage a lot. Troy's made a living out of watching QB's (as has Ed Reed).

Frankly, the "big play" he made was a gift. It's pretty easy to get a sack when absolutely no one tries to block you.
[/quote]

One may argue that the TD to Boldin was a gift too. It's pretty easy to score TD's when no one is within 10 yards of the WR. It's football, people make mistakes and the good ones make you pay for it.

Its that exact type of play where the QB buys time for the receiver to break free that Big Ben has been killing us for years with. I don't remember you saying those were "gifts". More likely you called it an excellent play.

Ben has to buy his own time.
