Either this becomes a multi-person conversation or this thread is going in the trash.

I'm trying to get people involved. I've been posting a lot of critical thinking points but people don't pay attention.

I think a large part of the offensive problems are just Cam being too predictable. He thinks hes sees something that he can take advantage of, and just sells out for it.

It has become quite clear that we really need more balance on Offense. Id like to see Cam work in more TE screens, FB screens etc. Getting McClain back will be a huge boost as well.

Surprisingly, Cam has actually been very consistent in giving McClain one or two screens a game. Le'Ron has caught a pass in every game he's played in this year.

I've been waiting for more TE screens and we did see one go to Dickson last night but it hasn't been a common play this year.

Definitely. I don't think we're using our personnel's strengths, which is probably why some guys are getting frustrated. I liked this one play where Flacco faked left and right, then went to Mason for like a 25 yard gain.

I honestly don't know why Flacco wouldn't be able to find Mason, Housh, or Boldin on any given play. I saw Housh get a pass last game (middle of the field) that was in an unbelievably tight window. I couldn't believe he connected.

I remember the pass to Houshmandzadeh you're talking about it. Joe threaded the needle that time.

If I remember correctly, that pass to Housh was the one where Flacco threw it to him between 2 or 3 defenders. Crazy good pass.

Anyways, I agree with the side of hawkprey's split personality (lol) that said that we could be using Reed better. I remember the days when he used to time the blitz perfectly and blow up plays in the backfield. As far as I can tell, he hasn't done anything like that this season since coming back.

Not just INTs, sacks and pressure. (One of me, there's two) was just saying that he's not being used to his potential. Part of me feels like the way Mattison plays Ed is allowing other teams to gameplan for him easily. Face it, most of Eds interceptions have been poor throws by bad QBs. What's he going to do against a playoff-caliber QB if he's playing Mattison-style conservative?
The same thing he did against Playoff-caliber QBs like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady last Season, in the Mattison-style conservative Defense. He had 4 INTs against them in the 3 combined games. I can't agree with the concept of blitzing our best coverage player. Reed has only had 5 sacks in his entire career, with 4 in the 1st 3 years. Can he get pressure? Of course. Ed has always been one of the most versatile weapons in the game. But what of the risk that could come with it? Our secondary's inexperience has sometimes been exploited. Reed is the best player anyone could have to discourage teams from doing so. Reed thrives off of mistakes, and an INT is practically expected when the ball comes his way. Our CBs are doing their best to play with consistency, so expecting more than a deflection when the ball comes their way would probably leave us in disappointment more times than not. I feel like we have the talent up front to provide enough pressure. If we can wreak as much havoc as we have in the last 2 games, there will be more opportunities for our back end to come up with turnovers.

im a little confused...are we talking about the future like the rest of this year? or like in the years to come?
Preferably this year. Like what should we do to close out the season and what adjustments should we make come playoff time.

What you said makes sense. I was trying to stir up intelligent (for once) conversation on this board and you defended yourself well.

Thank you. And to defend your point of view, Reed is underutilized in comparison to his earlier years. Though I feel like it can be justified since when Reed was used to pressure the QB, we had players like McAlister and Rolle to capitalize on the mistakes. The problem with blitzing Reed now is that because most of our CBs aren't physical at the line of scrimmage, but possess top notch speed and acceleration, they usually play 7 to 8 yards from the WR. With that being said I feel like game planning against Reed blitzing could actually be easier because the QB mighty simply check to a short route such as a 3 step slant. Although I trust our CBs corps reaction time, their poor technique in tackling would almost guarantee a 4 to 5 yard gain. Not to take anything away from our CBs, but it's a bit of a shame that his babysitting responsibilities somewhat limit his usage.
