It's Clear: The Ravens Need A Thorough Thrashing To Get "it"

92 posts in this topic
CASE: Before the Cleveland thrashing, NE barely beat playoff caliber teams.
POINT: After the *** whooping, they have taken EVERYBODY to school, and will continue to do so.
They also have a coach that isnt afraid to add on to more than a 7 point lead and embarrass any team and not let up for the whole 60 minutes and not take series off. How many games have we put up 40pts this season? Zero. They did it to Pitt and the Jets. Our personell is alot damn better than the Pats as well. I guess chemistry might be the thing in question.

I know I said I was done with the Ravens the other day - so what I lied. Anyway, seeing all these "It's Clear" threads got me thinking. The one THING that will WAKE THE RAVENS up (without changing staff in season) is a thorough *** whooping. Maybe then, Cam will get his head outta his butt, everybody will stop complaining, and the bleeding will cease.

Who's with me?

I understand your logic, but a blow out loss would probably draw more attention to the defense which has largely done its job this year. Losing a low scoring game is more of a wake up call for the offense. Besides, more and more I see Harbs as a Billick clone -- too full of ego and pride to admit a mistake such as hiring Cam. Either that or he lacks the depth of knowledge or self-confidence to challenge Cam or any assistant. I really don't think anything will get through to the staff unless Bisciotti gets fed up and demands a coaching change. Maybe it will take missing the playoffs with all of the offensive talent added this year to make a change. I would bet however that before dumping Cam, Harbs would say that Flacco has peaked and we need a more effective QB. Anything but blame a brother coach.

This points directly to ineffective coaching.

I think a 3 to 0 shutout might do what the OP is getting at. This team is killing me now, i'd rather not see a blowout.

This board would be absolutely bananas if we lost 45-3 to the Patriots can you imagine?

Fans would be calling for a complete upheaval of the team. "GO BACK TO CLEVELAND"

The thing which irks me the most about our offense is the fact that WE DON'T EVEN NEED A HIGH-SCORING OFFENSE. People talk about how we could be elite, how we could be a top-5 offense with our personnel.

But honestly, the majority of our games have been decided by a touchdown or less. If we could just be an EFFECTIVE offense which consistently puts up 20 points a game we would be 11-1 right now. Look at the Pats, Bengals, and Steelers games. We don't need to destroy them, we just needed a little bit more production. I don't know whether it's the gameplan, or lack of chemistry. But we need to stop worrying about having a GREAT offense and just put up points consistently, even if they're just field goals.

We don't need a high-scoring, 30 ppg offense but we certainly have the POTENTIAL to be one, which is why so many fans are irked. When you see 90 yard drives against the Steelers, when you see Flacco orchestrate three clutch TD drives against the Falcons in the 2nd half, when you see us hold a 10 point lead over the Patriots in the first half, you wonder why we haven't been scoring all game in the same manner?

Instead our offense, as you obviously know, has those periods of hibernation which are just unbearable to watch, it just makes you go 'Are you serious?!' The team could be running/throwing all over the opponent but instead is throwing dump off passes for 2 yards a play and punting. It's annoying, to be frank.

They can pass the ball on most opponents but run the ball? No. For reasons stated dozens of times, this is the worst o-line we've seen during the Harbaugh era.

Hypothetically of course. You're right in that there has been no situation this year in which our run game has flourished, save against the Broncos

he was a horrible coach but very good offensive cord. look at denvers offensive stats. besides mcdaniels getting rid of Peyton Hillis in the beginning of the season.
Look what he did to Kyle Orton , he was and is a below average qb and hes in the top 5 pass yardages if im not mistaken.

Im giving Cam one more chance with this team starting with the Texans, if i dont see more than 24 offensive points sunday, im giving up on him. thats not asking alot with All the talent we have and from my understanding , Houstans secondary really isnt doing to good.

Cam is apologizing after every weak performance by this offense, we deserve better.
If this offense is not getting there act together soon then I agree that we may need somebody else calling the plays...

Hehe! It didn't happen after NE, CIN, or ATL now did it?
After cin we bounced back against cleveland.
We actually bounced back offensively from each of those games in the very next game.
Each issue offensively in each game was immediately addressed and responded to. I've given details in the houston thread and it is the reason I expect a good performance against them.

I take solice in knowing we have not ben blown out at all this yeareven tho its frustrating that if there wasn't for one bad offensive or even defensive play here and there we would be undefeated.

Sure there is always room for improvement but some act like we are in a bad place

Them getting throttled will change the MINDSET of the FO, the coaching staff, AND the team WILL be out for BLOOD. Period.

Or they would just be demoralized and give up the rest of the season !!!!!!!

No No No No, Absolutely NO!

This is the playoff push, man! We don't need a thrashing! We need to be the thrashers.

Right now we are 8-4 and about to embark on some of the more difficult games of the season.

1. A primetime national game against a team that "film nut" Ed Reed calls "the best offense in the NFL..."

2. then, oh, just the Defending Super Bowl Champions come to town...

3. next up a divisional road game against the Browns, who almost beat us at home earlier this year, and have this bruiser Peyton Hillis and an upstart defense.

4. and finally the lowly Bengals at home... yet they always seem to have our number, and would love to play spoiler...

No way we don't need a thrashing. We need to go 3-1 in this stretch just to get into the Playoffs. I have been plugging in some numbers on the "playoff machine" on espn.com and there are plenty of scenarios where 10-6 does not get you in in the AFC this year. So to be assured of a playoff spot, we need to go 3-1 against the best rushing attack in the NFL in a prime time national game on the road, the defending super bowl champions, a tough divisional game against another great rushing attack on the road and finally the Bengals at home. This is a tall order. This is time to step up. The Ravens don't need to "get" anything. They get it. It's crunch time!

Let's win some football games!

Let me bump this year old thread and say I was right.

On the bright side, hopefully we can get past this ugly game and get on the road to 15-1.

If I had a cookie, I'd give you one. You see the future.

The fact is I have no cookies because I threw them all at my tv today. If you had just said we would lose, it could have saved us the grief. Very selfish of you.

We shouldn't need to get our butts kicked to come back and be good. That was a bad loss today, it should bring a lot of fans back to earth. We learned 2 things: No game is a given, and we have no idea where the team stands for this season.

Maybe getting our butts kicked once to light the fire is our thing. Look at the Chargers, their thing is they can't win early in the season. Brett Favre generally got off to a slow start while he was playing. Most teams, except maybe the Pats, have issues they have to deal with. I know we'll eventually get it going and make it to the playoffs, so I'm not worried. Our problems could be a lot worse than losing one game to a good defensive football team.

I hope it does the trick but I am starting the think that Cam is just a safe side of the road type of guy. We will see how things go next week

I think the bigger picture here is that we could revive many threads from last year and the year before and see many of the same complaints as we have now. If one day the Ravens truly fixed their problems between seasons, it would shock me.

Maybe it shoud bring the staff and players back to earth. The Ravens consistently play down to weaker opponents. Sure we had some injuries and our first away game with a new O-line, minus Grubbs, but the intensity adn game plan were not there. Emotional letdown from Steelers? Bull hockey! These guys get paid tons to be ready each and every game. If you cannot win the games you should don't expect a home PO game. The big questions? Which game was the fluke -- Steelers or Titans?
