i dont think ngata should have been fined-it wasnt intentional!
Nice of you, but none of these hits are intentional....McClian didn't mean to hit a player that was falling to his knees in the head.

The McClain fine was obvious, even if not intentional by McClain. It's the rule, we have to deal.

Haloti's is a little more questionable. It looked like he swung his left arm to wrap-up, only Ben ducked his head and, thus, got a smack in the face. $15,000 sounds pretty cheap to see Roethlisberger with a "lady-product" up his nose.

Yeah, I saw it as Ngata just attempting to wrap up Ben and making incidental contact. Honestly, I was surprised they didn't flag him for that hit, only because of how much the refs seem to love flagging defenders for hits to the head of a quarterback lately.

with a lady product up his nose and still beat the ravens and soon win the division sounds better!
Guess they don't teach punctuation and why it is improper to type on-going sentences in that fine Pittsburgh educational system.

Yeah I thought he was actually trying to hit his throwing arm. Oh well. It's chump change for him since he will be getting paid next season.

I was shocked at seeing Harrison actually helping Ravens back onto their feet. I jokingly told my friend that he must be helping them up... so he can hit them again.

I can not argue with Mclain's fine. I was shocked they didn't flag it. I hate the rule. All this defensless reciever crap, and helmet to helmet stuff is well intended but I think it will sucseed in destroying the game we all love. You never want to see a player hurt, but football is a violent game. Thats why the give you the helmet and shoulder pads in the first place. Ngata's fine however, Ben is a big guy. Nagata was trying to wrap him up, ben ducked and got some free plastic surgery. There is no place for dirty play but, I do not feel either of these hits was dirty. This commisoner would have a field day against our 2000 Ravens defense. Let the players play football.

So I have a few questions about this fine stuff. 1)Where does the money go? 2)Is there any sort of checks and balances system in place? They seem to be getting out of hand and frankly the Ngata fine is just absurd. Soon they will start fining Ray Lewis for looking at the QB the wrong way and intimidating him. I think its time the NFLPA stands up and says enough is enough before the game we all love is reduced to yet another real life The Replacements...which it seems like next year it will be.

Ouch, he's undrafted too so thats gotta be like a third of his paycheck. I have no sympathy for Heath now, he did most of that damage to himself.

1) I believe the money goes to charity (united way etc)
2) Helmet to Helmet hits have the steepest fines up to 50,000 possible suspension on repeat offenses. Any blow to the QB head and you can expect a fine of 7.5-25,000 or upward based i suppose on previous fines. I believe Ngata was already fined for a hit on a QB earlier this season (forget which one) thats why he got fined 15k.

The league needs to start making fines a set % of a players salary. I just read on the main page that McClain's fine is nearly 12% of his entire salary. He was an undrafted rookie free agent so he go somthing like a $200 signing bonus and a pat on the back his rookie year. Losing 12% of your yearly income because of 1 poor split second decision is really unfair.

Yeah it sucks. Somebody like James Harrison who got something like a 3M bonus last year as compared to McClain who is just trying to make it in the league. The fines carry a lot more weight.

In that way the fines are very unfair. I'm sure McClain is hit a lot more than Ngata or Harrison.

Both fines are lame.

McClain does what you have to do in tough, physical games. The Steelers play that way, if you don't match their intensity you're not gonna beat them.

The Ngata fine is just absurd. Goodell needs to be slapped...every time somebody gets injured he's fining players. Is this football or chess? Getting pretty tired of this wanna be God. Probably didn't get too much attention as a child. He's like a dictator now. Same goes for Steelers players btw, the way he's punishing Harrison is also absurd. Goodell needs to be replaced ASAP by somebody who understands football.

Even as a Steelers fan/Ravens hater, I don't think Ngata should have been fined. It was clearly inadvertent. There definitely should have been a flag, but it was missed; it happens.

As a long time football fan, I do not want to start seeing Monday Morning QB'ing by some fools in the front office handing out fines on silly stuff like that. I've got no defense for McClain. That should have been flagged and the fine is at least in line with what the NFL has been dishing out so far.

I would agree that there needs to be a set standard though and a percentage probably makes more sense.

Exactly. Even as crazy the officials have gotten with calling pass interference, they still allow for inadvertent contact. Yet if its against their precious QB not only is an accidently hit gonna cost you a possible game altering 15 yard penalty, but also a boat load of cash. Horrible.
