Billick The Analyst

29 posts in this topic

What do you guys think of Brian becoming an analyst for FOX? Personally, I think this is a perfect gig for him until he lands another Head Coaching job at some point. I think his personality and view on the game are perfect for that role and I think he will be even better than Cowher is over on CBS.. your thoughts?

Good fit!

I'm sure he will be a successful analyst.

I'm happy he found something to keep him involved with the league.

Nice landing spot for him. Good off-season Free Agent signing by Fox.

Haha well said. I just hope to see him cover some Ravens games. a.w.k.w.a.r.d.

Fox only covers redskins games around here, and if not skins its usually the giants, eagles, cowboys. CBS shows Ravens games.

Exactly, FOX is the NFC - so Billick won't have to cover the Ravens. I liked some of his questions during the draft - He asked Herm Edwards about what his lockerroom would be like with bringing in all the young guys and how they would react and you could tell Herm really got caught off-guard on the question.

He's got some good insight, might be one of those guys better suited to pick apart other people's plans/information than to develop his own.

Either way, I hope he covers some Panthers games since that's about all I'll be able to see once I move to Charlotte.

Twice a year the Ravens do play on FOX. The two home games against the NFC are usually on FOX.

Plus we do play the redskins this year, right? That sounds like a Fox Billick game to me.

We play them in Baltimore so it will be on FOX. If it was a home game for them it would be on CBS.

I think its great. He is very well spoken and has a smart football mind despite what some people think because they only remember last year and not the fact that he has a winning record or coached for 9 seasons winning a superbowl in that time. Very few NFL coaches can have such a boast. He is also going to be more relaxed now because he isn't doing 2 jobs at once.

"Woo! We'll have favorable commentating in a game for once!" HAHA, don't forget Deion and Shannon.

I AGREE.

I don't remember Deion favoring us much but i didn't see him too much either. But Shannon doesn't seem to favor us as much as he should. He is always taking shots at our offense, even our 13-3 season... I don't expect Billick to favor us because think about it, would you seem credible if you favored your old team?

I doubt it. Billick says we ran him out of town.

Agreed. Deion usually is in our favor and so is Woodson and the Goose. Shannon is pro- Bronco and anti everything else.

I think he'll be professional enough though to choose his words carefully during any Ravens games he may call on FOX.

We all know that the network will try to get his broadcast partner to goad him into talking about his tenure in Baltimore, but we also know that Billick is an articulate and intelligent speaker that knows how to handle delicate situations.

That's why the Baltimore media loved his soundbytes; he was always entertaining in his interviews, even when some of his words got lost in translation.

Sharpe just dont like Boller, He's always talking crap on Him. Sharpe always have liked Billick and the Ravens organization, If you go back and talk about when Pryce came to B-More, Sharpe told alot of people that the Ravens is a class A organization and if anyone ever got a chance that they should go play for them, Pryce said that stuck in His mind and when we was interested and was goning to bring Him here He said He thought nothing of it and was very exciting to be becomg a Raven.

Sharpe just doesn't appreciate that we do not give him respect and shout outs every moment of every day for what he did for us.

I havent seen anything from Billick saying he was run out of town. That also doesn't sound like something he'd say, he's far too diplomatic than that. Its not hard to imagine he has hard feelings, but he clearly wasn't "ran out of town." Especially cuz he teaches classes at Towson, and he's said he wants to stay in Maryland for a few more years.

he said it. i watched and heard him say it. but i don't think he was talking crap on baltimore. they asked him if baltimore should start joe flacco and he said that he got ran out of town for doing that with boller. you could tell by the way he said it that it was meant to be light and funny. he wasnt taking a shot at baltimore.

He said it when he was on NFL networks draft coverage. Hold on a sec, I'll get the link.

Smitty is right. But I think this is the link:

yeah, there are a a few terrible HCs in the nfl right now who shouldn't be coaching at all. Billick's playcalling is questionable, but he is an excellent HC and i really hope he gets a shot somewhere. But i think i remember hearing him say that he loves baltimore and will remain there and is not really interested is pursuing any coaching jobs...

Billicks Play calling (when he made the decision to do so) is the type of decision in which has alot of gambling going on with it. on one hand his team went 13-3 when he was took over as the play caller, so the next year/season he figured "hey why not?...it worked before, lets run with it" and made the decision to keep doing what he had done the previous year., as we would all eventually come to find out....it was that decision that ultimately seeled his own fate as our head Coach for the future.

the Man knows Football and knows what it takes, and how to run it, just sometimes it turns out the wrong way and sometimes the players on the field, dont really perform to standards and the Head Coach, takes the blame for it.

so with him signing a TV deal as a commentator with ( i think) Fox sports as a Analyst, i think that its the best way for him to exploit his football knowledge/talent......the right way, rather than have him as the Head Coach, have things go bad or wrong to a certain degree and have the people/general public, fuming because of it

the TV deal is his safest option he could have gone with.

yup, I'd much rather listen to billick commentating a game than some of the other guys we're forced to listen to...(actually not, hail the mute button :P) Like him or not for what he's done, he's still a really smart guy when it comes to football, and being on FOX is perfect for him.
