2011 Baltimore Ravens

First of all, this thread isn't about throwing in the towel on this season. We still have a winning record and our hardest team left is the Saints at home. That is promising.

The point of this thread is to discuss what everyone wants to see happen for the 2011 season.

For Example,

I want us to draft a Cornerback, Strong Safety, Center and Middle Linebacker.
We need to find a difference maker at Cornerback. Landry is a bad tackler and has no instincts, we need a SS. Birk is getting old and we need to groom a young center. Ray is getting old and the is a carousel of players playing next to him.

I want us to re-sign Gaither for reasonable money. I don't want us to re-sign Landry.
Gaither wants to come back. Awesome! Landry misses too many tackles and is awful in zone coverage. What does he do good?

I want us to dismiss Cam Cameron and hire within the organization or search for a different offensive coordinator.
I see this one being on a lot of peoples list. I am just curious to see if people want to give Zorn a chance or not. Hue Jackson. I wish you were still available.

I want us to switch to a 4-3 defense because Mattison cannot effectively coach a 3-4 defense.
Suggs-Ngata-Cody-Kruger....It's a start and I think this would be better suited for keeping Ray feeling young. Jarrett Johnson, Ellerbe, McClain and Kindle could be good depth at the other 2 linebacker spots.

I want us to consider bringing back Marvin Lewis or Mike Nolan.
Let's face it, Marvin is going to get fired. Then again, it is the Bengals.....

As you can see I have a couple wants (that won't happen) for the off season.

Please to not talk about throwing in the towel for this year or anything like that. This is just an ideal offseason whether we finish 8-8, 12-4, or 10-6 with a Superbowl ring.

1. Renew Ngata's contract. 30 years @ $500M sounds good to me.2. Replace our OC.3. Go ape excretement on revamping our DL and secondary.4. Replace our OC.5. Resign Gaither to a two year deal @ $8-9M. Make him earn this huge payday he is seeking.6. Fire Cam Cameron.7. Find a long term solution for Center.8. Replace our OC.

I think you forgot to mention something about firing out OC?

One thing I don't get is in the post by the OP he says to switch to the 4-3 since Mattison can't do a 3-4 and than later says get Marvin Lewis or Mike Nolan. Marvin Lewis I can see us going to a 4-3 with him but with Nolan we would stay a 3-4 team.

Yes Alexir is correct, Ngata is # 1 Priority and will probably be given a long term deal before we even have to tender him(since we'll probably have the same off-season rules as we did last year)

In the Draft:

Draft a center for Birk

Draft a Free Safety for Reed

Draft AT LEAST 2 cornerbacks

Draft a Strong Safety but only as a back up

In Free Agency:

Resign Ngata for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE

Fire Landry, promote either Zibby or Nakamura, use drafted rookie as back-up

Resign Gaither for an about mediocre amount, he'll know he is receiving the amount due to injuries

Resign Bulger and either draft or sign a back up QB (I would like to see John Beck come back)

Trade either Lawrence or Parmele for a 5th or 6th round pick

Trade Gooden or Mcclain for a 4th or 5th round pick

In the Front office:

FIRE CAM CAMERON

Either promote the WR coach to think of creative plays with our WR corps or our RB coach to get back to focusing on the run and actually use Rice. Maybe even Zorn but im still sketchy about that.

We have a bunch of guys with their contracts expiring. I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that the following guys are free agents

Chris Carr - by far our best corner
Stallworth
Housh
Mason (may retire)
Gaither
Ngata

Thats not counting some other big time players who are 2+ years down the road that we need to start thinking about now like Flacco, Grubbs, Yanda, Rice

What are the chances Cam Cameron goes? Harbaugh always stands behind him and claims he's doing a great job. It makes me wonder if Harbaugh is saying that, so the players don't give up. We all know that a talented team can crumble if they don't have respect for their coaches.

Just wondering b/c I haven't heard...has Jim Harbaugh finalized his extension to stay at Stanford? Imagine him coaching alongside his brother in Baltimore.

I don't think drafting two safeties(even if Ed retires) would be a smart move.

The team doesn't need at least two CBs. Webb and Foxworth will be back and Wilson and Carr should be re-signed. A big-bodied, sure-tackling CB would be nice though.

No one is giving up a 5th or 6th round pick for Parmele or Lawrence and no one is giving up a 4th or 5th round pick for Jameel or Gooden.

We do need to groom someone to replace Birk, A linebacker should be drafted, but remember we will have kindle next season, and your secondary is having trouble but Fox will be back next season. I am comfortable with having Fox, Wilson< Carr, and Webb, and Williams at Corner. Remember Housh is on a one year deal and probably wont come back because he isnt getting the looks. Mason could easily retire again next year, and even if he doesnt he is 35. Boldin and Stallworth are both 30. We need to get another WR in the draft so we can groom them as well. Of course our coaching staff needs major evaluation

The Marvin Lewis/Nolan thing was if Mattison were to be fired.

Harbaugh standing by Cam doesn't mean the FO won't evaluate him in the off-season and let him go if they feel he hasn't done a good job.

Well i think we shoud get a new SS in Free agency then and get the FS in the draft. and with the ravens, you can never have too many good corners :P

for lawrence or parmele think we could get a 6th for parmele because he is at least a decent back up running back. and i think we could get a 5th for Gooden with him playing with some decency

One, Mason signed a 2 year deal.
2. Ngata might get the Tag
3. Gaither should be resigned for peanuts
4. We must draft for the future and lock-up SOUND replacements for the Secondary and LB core.
5. A REAL stategy on winning is needed, a real philosphy, if that means firing the OC, so be it.

Is the NFL even happening next year? I haven't been checking up much on any news regarding the potential lockout...

A free agent SS and a FS in the draft or vice versa would work.

Trust me, no one is giving up a 6th for either of them. Lawrence played well on special teams last season but tore his ACL and hasn't played at all this season. Plus he's never carried the ball in a game. Parmele has shown some ability but RBs like him are a dime a dozen.

The same goes for Gooden who I don't think has been playing decent at all. He seems lost in coverage and does little against the run.

The hate for Mattison is unreal to me, we just came off one of the most dominating defensive performances in awhile and you want to go back to a DC that Ray Lewis even hated his playcalling at times? Marvin Lewis doesnt even make the defensive calls for Cincy and hasnt in forever, he helps with the designs and schemes Im sure but thats not his defense like it is in New York where Pettine basically gets paid to help Rex with the little things. Mattison may not be what everyone wants and may not do things the hardcore attacking ways of Rex, but we're on our way to another top 5 defense. Seriously can the man get any love? He called almost a perfect game last night.

I think he called a perfect game. Every big play the Steelers got came down to a lack of player execution.

Let Mason retire or release him if he doesn't. Its time to infuse the WR group with some youth.

too lazy to get the link, but on the site's news section (i think) Harbs commented on whether or not he questions our playcalling. Reading between the lines, I think he does get frustrated. To what extent, I dont know. But its a start. Maybe we needed this loss, because players are starting to speak out. The sooner changes are made, the better.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I love Mason, but you'd be holding the future of the WR position back at that point. He has been playing great, but I would take Housh over him, since hes a lot younger.

Bottom line is, we need someone to grow with Flacco. The smart organizations get rid of a player one year earlier, and thats what we'd be doing.

Thank you. Loyalty will only get you so far. This is the Pats formula and they are one of the best franchise in the NFL.

The Pats formula would have been 3-4 years ago. You don't do it for the players last year to ever play when he's still producing like Mason.

1) Sign Ngata to a long term deal. (10-12 years will do)
2) Look into getting a new OC. (Tom Clements - GB QB coach or Joe Lombardi -Saints) think Flacco has learn alot from Cam, but I think having another person with some different perspectives should help him in his growth. Having a different point of veiw and knowledge base should do wonders for the kid's development
3) Secondary needs help. (Draft CBs not safeties) Speed is what we need.
4) Sign Gaither. The OL is soooo much better with him in the line up. This will help the running game ten fold and help on the blitz pick-up.
5) Sign Stallworth if you can get him for a reasonable price. He is a nice addition to the offense and can really allow the offense more options.
6) Sign Carr but put in his contract he cant return punts.
