Flacco Or Dicksons Fault On 4Th And 2?

68 posts in this topic

Dickson was standing at the first down. The ball was poorly thrown. Its on Flacco. Open guy. You have to hit him. He was only the second read.

100%

Flacco's arm just deflated and failed. can't blame anyone else for that 4th and 2 but Flacco.

heartbreaking loss, ugh.

That basketball style pass bouncing off the turf on that 4th and 2 play... NOT good... I know Flacco is better than that. AT THE MINIMUM I expected the Ravens to get into FG range, the wind was too bad to try that kick from out there...

On the prior play, he went too low with Dickson causing him to try and roll on the ground for a first down.

Honetly, I think it was Flacco's fault. But not only was is Flacco's fault. WE HAVE THE #1 KICKER IN THE NFL DON"T YOU THINK WE WOULD GIVE HIM A TRY FOR A 55 YARD FIELD GOAL?! I really question if Cam Cameron is good enough for the Ravens. We have the best offensive team in the NFL. Look at who we have! Anquan Boldin, Matt Birk, Joe Flacco, Donte Stallworth, Todd Heap, Dennis Pitta, Ray Rice. And also THE best coach in the NFL John Harbaugh. You have to put more trust into your Field Goal Kicker.

It was 49 yards. They just said on TV that, with the wind, it was more like a 55 yarder. I would have liked to see Cundiff give it a shot

No. The personnel certainly looks good on paper but they aren't the best offensive unit in the NFL and haven't performed as such. And as much as I like Harbs, he isn't the best coach in the league.

It was a combination of both. Flacco threw before he was ready but he knew he had the correct read when he turned to throw across his body; you also have to keep in mind, wind was somewhat of a factor, as we saw plenty of passes sail for both QBs. Meanwhile, it looked as if Dickson was supposed to run a shorter route instead of going all the way in the flat, the way that Flacco miscalculated the distance of the throw. Furthermore, given Dickson's up-and-down night, it wouldn't surprise me if he messed up part of the play somehow.

Agreed. On another note, why are people making such a big deal about this play? I understand that it was a play that should have been made, but the game shouldn't have got to this point. There were numerous other mistakes that the Ravens made which were far worse IMO (i.e. letting Troy get in untouched for the strip, piss-poor tackling on the TD run by Redman, any of Oher's false start penalties, etc.).

Because it was literally the play that stalled our drive and did not allow the attempt at a win, or at least a tie and OT.

I don't blame Flacco for the loss, but that was his fault.

Although I will say Cam should have tried a lot more shot-gun with the pressure he was getting, so like always Cam had a huge hand in it too.

Again 49 yarder with strong winds, or going for it on 4th and short when you have Rice, Boldin, Mason, and Housh? Which one sounds better?

Harbs knows where he needed to be to have a good chance of making the kick. That spot wasn't reached. The wind would've been blowing into the kick, which always creates a curve ball. It's cold the ball is harder.

What if we missed the kick, would we be arguing about how we should've gone for it on 4th and short because we have so many weapons?

Does it matter who's fault it was. The play was supposed to go to Boldin on a slant but he got jammed at the lind and couldnt get off of it in time. flacco looked around and dickson was open, but for some reason he was running away from the ball instead of coming to it. Poor throw but flacco was trying to make a play, instead of waiting a few more seconds and getting sacked. We lost, it should not have come down until this play, so that cant be the excuse. Defense had a great game plan but for some reason had a mental lapse with the offsides and neutral zone penalties, along with trying to arm tackle instead of chesting up, and trying to strip ben of the ball. play calling on the o was terrible in the second half, if you let the steelers hang with you all game that will happen. Joe played realy well alst night, and some those calls against Oher were questionable. We split the series with the Steelers and we are in prime position to make the playoffs. Things could be a lot worse.

You leave Michael alone. The story of his childhood is a popular movie, so he is going to make the probowl.

A bit of a low blow, don't you think? Back to the subject at hand, was Flaccos fault, no doubt about it.

Go focus on Cincy big guy, we don't like your kind around here. This is a mature sports board. Go bother another group.

Yeah too bad Cam Cameron doesn't know how to use those weapons.

Who were the skill players on the field not named Boldin or Dickson on that final play?
+ Mase, Housh and Rice if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks. I'll have to go back and see if I can discern what routes they ran to see if Joe had other legitimate options.

It doesn't matter whose fault that 1 play was. If we needed that play in order to win the game, then we had a problem anyway. It should not get to the point where we let a single play decide the game. Anyway, it was an equal share, Flacco a poor throw and Dickson should have moved up for the ball. Heap or Mason would have caught it.

Boldin was running a slant and was Flacco's first read, Dickson was doing whatever that route was called and I know I saw Housh and Mase run deeper routes while rice blocked. This is just memory and could be incorrect, but I know for a fact Boldin was running a slant and was stuffed by 20.

It falls under Flacco's faulty for me considering Dickson had made the first down and was wide open. the throw by Joe was a cupcake!
