Interesting Observation Re: Offense

9 posts in this topic

Today (and last week) it's become apparent to me that our offense is our biggest problem. Our defense has done pretty well the last few weeks (minus a few things) and our offense has really been the reason we have struggled.

So I looked at the scores by our offense throughout the season:

Jets: 10
Bengals: 10
Browns: 24
Steelers: 17
Broncos: 31
Patriots: 20
Bills: 37
Dolphins: 26
Falcons: 21
Panthers: 37
Bucs: 17
Steelers: 10

Now you could attribute these scores to poor defenses or whatnot but it seems strange to me that such a trend has developed. During the middle of the season seemed as though we were becoming a more balanced team but we've almost reverted back to a defensive minded team and our offense has become incapable of delivering much of the game.

I really don't know what has brought about this change and I can't figure it out.

It's not hard to figure out man. Execution across the board has been an issue at times but the biggest problem has been the OC(tired of even writing his name). From his lack of aggressiveness when the team has a lead to his seeming lack of knowledge regarding the strengths of his own players, this team's OC just isn't good.

Reports coming out that the players are questioning him is proof alone he's hindering the offense.

I think the offensive play-calling is certainly an issue, the conservativeness of our offense at certain points in time (either when we're leading or tied) it's as if they rely solely on the D to protect our lead. While that is their job, the offense cannot come to a complete standstill. Our D has done a great job for having little/no help from the Offense.

But what are we doing so differently now that we didn't do throughout the middle of the season? We had some decent offensive games and people were discussing how we're evolving as a team... now it doesn't really seem to be the case.

The team wasn't doing anything special in the middle of the season. Simply analyzing shows the offense has not progressed.

Seelers: 17

The Ravens was mostly innaffective against the Steelers but Joe led the offense on a game-winning drive.

Broncos: 31

Denver is terrible and the Ravens were able to abuse them pounding the rock.

Patriots: 20

Joe and company dominated for three quarters but did nothing in the 4th quarter or OT as the Pats came back and got the W.

Dolphins: 26

There were two nice TD drives but not much else offensively.

Falcons: 21

The offense did absolutely nothing in the first half but turned it on in the second half.

Panthers: 37

14 points came off defensive scores and the offense did next to nothing in the second half.

Bucs: 17

Offense scored zero points in the second half. 'Nuff said.

The Oline has taken several steps back and the Ravens have no running game even against the worse teams.

Yeah, but it's hard to establish a running and play-action when you only run it 5 times a game!

I am befuddeld with the offense. We have all these superstars, a capable QB and Mason is right. They just don't get it done. Any team in the NFL isn't going to be perfect but I think the Ravens O-Coordinator just doesn't get it. He has no feel for the momentum.

Penalties are also killing the offense in or near the red zone. Oher single handedly lost us a FG attempt last night. Another time we were on the 5 yard line or whatever and come out with a FG? Maddening.

If it is any consolation, I don't think any NFC North team is gonna go far in the playoffs. Unfortunatley, that loss last night will probably mean a wild card game in NJ Jets or New England depending on who wins tonight...

I think we see the Jets. Pats will probably win tonight but ofcourse we need to win out some tough games. Saints, Brownies, and Texans. We should win the Bengals game.

Last night was basically the season and I don't think anyone liked what they saw

But running it has never really produced anything this season.. seems to me like we're running it enough or trying to anyways.
