It's Clear: Cam Cameron Is Not An Elite Oc

Sure I'm listening. You think all of the blame is on your OC's head because you don't like the playcall.

The part I do not understand is why the fan of any team would simply blame the coordinator for "calling a bad play" when there are numerous professionals on the field who are trained to do things (like read defenses) and fail to adjust.

Call an audible...yell to someone on the line to cover the unaccounted for defender...HOLD...whatever. But how it all falls on the OC just makes me laugh.

Besides, doesn't the OC work under the HC? If the OC is really that bad, I'd blame the Head Coach!

In a good number of games this year, Cam hasn't just called a bad play. He's called numerous bad plays, at times, in a row. Yes, the players are paid to execute but there are plays in certain situations that give you a better chance to execute and Cam has failed to make those calls too often this season.

It doesn't all fall on him but to me, a sizable part of the offense's struggles do.

Harbaugh has already taken some heat for not putting his foot down at times this year.

Once this season is over, Cameron needs to go. If I can sit on my couch and predict every play we're about to run, I know damn well that Mike Tomlin and his defense can. He's not creative, he doesn't know how to use all the talent, he takes his foot off the trottle if we have a 7 point lead, and he seems satisfied with his playcalling after the game which means there probably won't be any change.

After 12 games in 2009 we were scoring 22.58 points per game.
After 12 games in 2010 we are scoring 21.66 points per game.

One point isn't much, but Flacco is playing great, Mason is having another good year, we signed Boldin, Housh and Stallworth. Our offensive line isn't as dominate in run blocking, but in my opinion we should be averaging 25 or 26 points per game. Does it come back to Cam Cameron's poor play calling especially when we have a (small) lead? I think a lot of it does.

I know it seems like we cant put all the faught on Cam but really the game plan an adjustments have failed us most of the year. We are a Overrated audible away from losing twice to the steelers an being 7-5 instead of 8-4.

Question: If something is so clear...then why would we be discussing it?

Three thread titles fail :D

haha ... you can make it four now, I just couldn't resist making one of my own.

For all this discussion about firing Cam Cameron, keep in mind that a move probably wouldn't be made until after the season is over:

1) It takes time to install a new offense, even if the new coordinator has a similar system
2) Chemistry is still being developed on offense as we speak
3) It's too late in the season to make such a drastic change and hope for positive results
4) A search for a candidate takes time and organizations do not make selections based on reputation alone; otherwise, guys like Jim Fassel would have a job right now for all the success he had in New York, and we know that Fassel isn't that great of a coach and coordinator
5) It's unlikely that a new coordinator can make an immediate and positive impact this late in the year
I agree with all those points but #2 specifically, I understand that it takes a while to develop chemistry but how long really? When you have these playmakers who are established, who have made their mark on the league, who have shown the world what they do best, how can you not isolate those talents right now and harvest them to meet the needs of the offense and make it diverse and quite frankly unstoppable?

Boldin has shown that he is big time YAC guy, not huge on the downfield plays (although he has that ability obviously). Use him on quick slants, screens, establish a physical presence.

TJ is at his best along the middle of the field, making the tough catches in traffic.

Mason is comeback routes for days.

etc. etc.

What I'm most concerned about is the fact that Cameron is just calling plays in a fashion that seems to be almost at random, without any relevance to the situation or the players involved or the defense being faced. Case in point: reverse against the Steelers (never again, please). A lot of fans were clamoring for us to run the ball more on the Polamalu strip sack drive, because it was working and netting chunks of yards. Why not continue? Or why not take advantage of the aggressive nature of the Steelers D and hit them with a Boldin bubble screen? See my point? There's no specificity to Cameron's playcalling, IMO

RUMOR:

Cameron has hacked into Franny's BR.com account.

EVIDENCE:

See 1 - 5 above.

Me thinks this....

If you leave the playbook intact, but change the person selecting which play to run when, we would see minimal, if any, adjustments needed. Heck, we can keep Cam as the OC. We can just have someone else call the plays, have them radio it down to Cameron, and Cameron can relay them as if it is his own idea lol.

but I do think we need to install an entirely new system, which will have to wait til the offseason.

Heres the solution:

1) Fire Cam.
2) Harbaugh takes control of the offense.
3) Either we do good, or Harbaugh goes.
That's not a solution.

1) See Franny's post.
2) Harbaugh isn't involved in the offense now. What makes you think he could take control of it and implement a well-oiled machine?
3) Really? No.

Aye Yi Yi.....I agree with what you're saying. Execute the play called....I hear ya.

BUT, it wouldnt of mattered if the correct play had been called. You DO NOT pass on 2nd and 5 (while leading) with 3:XX minutes left in a game. 100 times out of 100, worst case, you run, run, punt! Hope for 5 more yards, but if not, make the Steeler offense TRY to move teh ball 80+- yards!

AND we're a few good OC calls from being 9-3, 10-2 or 11-1

I LOVE IT! Who shall this puppet master be? OOO OOO JEFF DUNHAM!! He can even relay the messages to Joe while Cam mimes. Brilliant. OR we could fire Cam and get Achmed to call plays on the sideline. I would be in favor. Let's get this done people!
