Players Frustrated

Terrell Suggs on Polamalu hit: 'Is that something new? We've just got to know our opponent better. It's like, 'Have we learned nothing?'

Was the play-calling not aggressive enough? Willis McGahee replied: 'You have to talk to the coach about that one.'

Anquan Boldin: 'Not give away the game. Plain and simple. We didn't produce as an offense at all in the second half.'

Mason was especially frustated...
"You wonder why you come back and play after stuff like this," Mason said after the Ravens' 13-10 loss to Pittsburgh. "Pittsburgh is a good team, but there is honestly no way we should have lost this game. This makes me wonder personally why I even came back. It hurts worse than any other game."

The Ravens' offense essentially lost the game in the fourth quarter, when Joe Flacco was stripped of the ball in Ravens' territory (which led to the Steelers' go-ahead touchdown) and failed to get within field-goal range to tie the game at the end.

"It's sad to say, but we're just not a good offense at times. We really aren't," Mason said. "For whatever reason it is, I don't know. But we're not a good offense at times. I'm not pointing any fingers at anybody because I'm part of the equation, but we're just not a good offense at times."

The Ravens were held under 20 points for the second straight week. It's the sixth time that they have been limited to 20 points or less this season.

"All these people we've got on offense -- I might get crucified for this one -- but all these people we've got on offense and we're not a good offense at times," Mason said. "Just call it how you see it. Call a spade a spade. If we were a good offense, we'd move the ball up and down the field. Especially with the people we have and the quarterback and the personnel we have. But we're just not a good offense at times."

Mason added, "We've just got to come to a point where it's stop all the [expletive] and play football. Put some points on the board and not allow teams to come back in the second half, not put the pressure on our defense to have to stop somebody in the last second of the game. Just [expletive] put some points on the board and move forward."
All the personnel and the great QB.

What's missing?

Execution and Cam. Period. Hasn't been there all year. The Ravens have yet to utilize the offense to it's full potential.

Yeah no kidding. This is the arrow finally pointing at Cam, after circling him all season. The only thing that kept us together was winning, but the signs have been there since week 1. Flacco is being hindered, our entire offense is being hindered by poor game planning and being in low percentage situations too often. Who throws two fades inside the 5? These aren't one time mistakes, we've seen these things before. I have little confidence in Cam, and it's clear that we've gotten out coached several times this season.

Part of me is happy the players are so steamed after the loss but really, what is going to change? If the team has a lead in the fourth, Cam is still going to go into "conservative mode".

If I was them, I would also.

Any offensive coach in this league would be drooling over the personnel this team has right now. Boldin, Mason, Heap, TJ, Rice, Willis, McClain etc.

I remember one moment in the Divisional round last year where Flacco was giving Cam an earfull. Shocked the heck out of me but don't believe for a second that these players aren't voicing their opinions to the coaches and if they are and the coaches aren't listening, boy smh...

Those fades made me heated... what happened to the draw? or the play-action?

Everyone gets knocked down, how we respond is what's important. Are we going to put that chip on our shoulder or give up and choke the season away?

Or screens, slants, or even a single run attempt?

Cam doesn't know the personnel. Period.

To lose a game that we clearly dominated so much of like this hurts, and Mason is 100% right about that. To say that Cam is totally responsible for the loss may be unfair, but his share would be large, considering how he tried to run out the clock with 9 minutes left and a 4 point lead. Against the Steelers, that's the time when you go for the throat, not where you curl up and hope it ends soon.

BOOOOOOOOOO is what i wanna say!!!!!!! How in the world do you get out coached in 4 min? Are you kidding me? Enough of all the pleasantries heads will roll. Im so tired of big game excuses. If you can't win with a Qb with a broken nose and limp how do you aspect to beat the elite teams in this league. Polamalu on the line of scrimmage was a joke and easy to block if you recognized it pre snap. You let him walk into our backfield and don't protect the football. Shame on Joe and Cam the coordinator on that play. Embarrassing. Changes next year will be made super bowl or not.

Joe Flacco on Troy Polamalu play: 'It was an all-out blitz. I took three steps and I just got hit. I was pretty shocked to see it myself.'

Good observation Flacco!

Terrell Suggs on Polamalu hit: 'Is that something new? We've just got to know our opponent better. It's like, 'Have we learned nothing?'

No, that was not something new at all but the people that were supposed to recognize that play did not. Terrell, can you help the offense with film study?

I couldnt agree more... we have too much talent in our Roster and when playing the Steelers, you don't give them an inch...because they will find a way to take a mile. Hope this is a lesson learned.

Strip Cam of the headset, and give it to Suggs.

Agreed. It seems like if he's sitting on a lead he feels like his job is done and that the defense has to keep it going. I'm seriously looking forward to a OC coordinator. Our defense played stout all game but it was only a matter of time before they broke considering they were on the field all game.

I love my team and will continue to root for them but I don't think any lessons are learned with Cam calling the shots. If the loss against the Pats and letting the Bucs almost make a game of it late last Sunday didn't teach Cam not to sit on leads, nothing will.

I'm not blaming the collapses solely on him but his play-calling in those situations has been uninspired to say the least.

Strong words. This can either be a catalyst for positive change or the start of a breakdown. The Ravens are too talented and too motivated to let it take them down, though.

John Harbaugh: "I don’t really sit in here and criticize my coaches’ play-calling after the fact. Never have, never will."

I understand not in public, but behind the scenes you are a fool if you don't.

The funniest thing is that just about everything I complained about tonight at the game are the same things that the players are complaining about! I can not believe that this is happening with this team, Brain Billick could do big things with this team!

I'd hate for their to be mutiny amongst the Ravens, but this was much needed for the players to vent publicly so at least the fans understand they share similar sentiments. We're going up against Houston/New Orleans soon and they have some fast upbeat offenses. We cannot afford to even feel safe with a 10 point lead into the 4th. This type of offensive philosophy has to change before MNF.

This isn't our first close loss due to the offense. If we didn't learn after all those losses, I don't see how we learn now sadly...

Agreed. People dislike him but Mike Preston has said it before and I'm inclined to agree with him now more than ever that while Harbaugh has done well to surround himself with experienced coordinators, he needs to take the reigns of the team more often and demand more aggressiveness when the situation calls for it.

If he isn't doing that this week, this team won't win anything this season.

Question, what do you think the Colts or Pats would do with the ball and 55 seconds left in the 1st half leading by 7?

Not to mention with one timeout. I couldn't believe we didn't try to take a couple shots downfield to at least attempt a FG. It's like Joe is just a rookie. I'm so sick of this joke calling the plays
