Suggs Makes News With His Comments

34 posts in this topic

I was on Yahoo and noticed one of their featured stories was comments Suggs made yesterday(I think) about how the league plays favorites when making calls for QBs.

Having seen a segment Trent Dilfer did on ESPN last year highlighting the inconsistencies regarding roughing the QB flags, part of agrees with Sizzle. Still, we've seen QBs not named Brady or Manning get the benefit of "questionable" calls. Suggs himself was involved in one with Palmer earlier this season on this play.

I was just wondering what you guys thought.

Well, all he said is true. That doesn't mean he should've said it to the media, though. There are venues for players and personnel to address the league, talking to a reporter is not included in that..

Anyways, I enjoyed a candid Suggs! Glad to hear he's off cocaine

The refs are going to be there every game. They are a big part of the game. It is fruitless to complain about them because it only distracts you from the opponent and people see you as a whiner. The league is gonna support the refs. Simple.

Any team that wins the one on one battles in the trenches is going to win the game. Beat your opponent each time the ball is snapped, not complain about the refs.

I teach my players that and I live by that. Remember; it may not be your fault, but dont ever think its not your problem!

I do think you have to agree with him because just take a look at what he said, Palmer gets taken out for season and nothing happens(which was a very questionable hit IMO) and then Tom Bieber gets hurt and a new rule is made and other things are being enforced.

I agree with Suggs, but honestly he should just keep his mouth shut about these things. The Ravens are finally getting off the NFL blacklist and he doesn't want to venture himself or the team back onto it. Go ahead and make jokes but don't venture into something the league may find offensive about criticizing them since they are highly sensitive. Make plays and don't have a target on your back like James Harrison. As Micheal Jordan said "Let your game speak"

The Ravens were blacklisted?

Well you know how in past years (especially last year) the Ravens style of defense led to a ton of penalties. Their style of defense was frowned upon and it seemed like the Ravens were always targeted by the officials so you feel like they're getting "blacklisted." But Harbaugh fixed that up this year and the penalties are way down. Beside a few penalties here and there, the Ravens aren't being drowned in yellow flags like the Steelers this year.

Hahah yeah, I don't know. That's an off-color joke you make to your buddies, not the media. Maybe he was just running off endorphins at that point?

He's entitled to vent through which ever outlet he chooses. As long as it's not about his own team and knowing that he's not at all alone in his feelings AND that he's 100% right? I have NO problem with this at all. In fact, he's earned some brownie points with me.

And that flag was obviously BS.

I'm just saying, it's less likely to make an impact with the league if he says it to someone else. Terrell Suggs is only a player so he probably has limited access/awareness to those mediums but, still, it should be said to the league, first, and not the media.

No one ever impacted change by protesting in their basement.

Never said that. So you believe a well-crafted, reasonable letter/email to the league from a prominent player(s) would be less effective than making pass-aggressive swipes at the NFL through the media? I disagree. Even a one-on-one meeting with Goodell. Maybe Terrell's will be more than "semi-productive".

Letters to them would be no more effective. It'll make get the most attention in the off-season. My hope is that Ambassador Rooney comes over and chews off a little of Goodell's butt. ...and that he's not alone in doing so.

Wish he would have waited until Monday to make those comments.
[/quote]

Why? Ryan Clark said it they're going to throw the flags anyway. And I don't expect either of our QB's to get the protection that some of the others do.

This probably won't change ever, the elites will always get the calls they want. Who is going to want to see the Colts without Manning or the Pats without Brady? It's just the way it is and unfortunately rookie QBs won't get the same calls.

I don't doubt that the NFL's policies and, specifically, Goodell will be called in question in the offseason. But, if neither is effective, why say it at all?

More likely to throw the flag against you when you're thumbing your nose at them. No need to bring more attention to yourself.

Frustration. There are a lot of NFL fans, not the least of which cheer for the Ravens and the Steelers, who have become accustomed to, and LOVE defensive football. Suggs was right when he said Goodell favors offense. It's not fair at all. I can only imagine the frustration if you happen to PLAY defense.

That would prove the case for the players. Besides, it's our locker room too, not just Suggs.

I'm not doubting that. What Terrell said was correct, yes, but that doesn't mean it's going to do him a lot of good by saying it to a reporter.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I'm not saying it was smart, I'm just indifferent, and I understand the frustration.

I believe did have some points, but everyone knows that Baltimore always get the blunt end of bad calls and half never go our way. This year was the first year that we actually had gotten some calls we were supposed to.

It is very apparent that there is a bias for certain QB's (princesses) in the NFL. If you even brush Tom Brady you get the 15 yarder. It is even worse when you play a team like the steelers. They always cry about the opposition playing tight on their receivers but are the first to run the pick when trying to get Ward open. I just mentioned that as there are many cry babies in the league and not all are QB's.

again, not too much new that the stars will get favorite treatment, Brady in particular, but now I am sure they are talking about this in the Steeler camp and it will give them more incentive to play harder, not like they need any.
We need all the help we can get. go defense!
Ravens all the way!!
