According to the gameday page, the Ravens will be wearing Purple.

Don't believe anything a Steeler tells you. Otherwise, they'll have you believe that they never cheap-shot anyone, and that all their hits are clean.

I have to wonder why some people are concerned about what color jerseys we are wearing, but put me down as hoping for the black jerseys - just to psych out the Steelers.

From what I hear the Ravens FO has asked that no one wear black to the stadium for this game and are requesting that every one wear purple.

If that pans out it will look soooooooooooooo cool.

They want a purple-out; black, white, and especially yellow are retroactive to that effort. Should be epic. I'm amped!

Ravens only wear their black jersey once a year (that's what I was told), and we wore them last week against the Buccaneers. Until next season, we won't be wearing the black again. I think they'll be in purple.

Alternate jerseys are allowed twice a year, including preseason and the playoffs, with permission from the league needed for any exemptions.

The Ravens will be wearing purple against the Steelers and in most other AFC North games for the foreseeable future because it's meant to show pride in the team colors. Besides, the Steelers wear black as their primary color, so wearing the alternate black jerseys would basically be viewed as copying the Steelers. Bad enough that the fanbase is split over the towels. Also, almost every team has an alternate black jersey, so it's not really a special look. If every team wore black on a regular basis, then most uniforms would look generic.

This is one thing I do like about NCAA ball. A PSU white out is amazing! The fact that girls pack away their foo-foo pink jerseys with glitter and sequins and the fact that guys pack away their autographed, alternative, $300 authentic jerseys to wear a $20 white t-shirt to actually form a white out as asked by the teams PR department is simply amazing.

Obviously, it would never happen in the NFL. :34853_shakehead:

Harbaugh said he doesn't like the all black jerseys. That's why we haven't worn them ever since he got the job.

Well, also, people have more school spirit than they have pride in their NFL team. Collegiate ball has a more devout fanbase because ties to the school are much more personal than ties to the professional teams.

Man i wished they would wear the all black everyhome game and all the play offs (we should be in the play offs).
I was so excited to hear they were possibly wearing all black this past sunday (the tampa game) but was dissapointed to see the white pant with the black pin strip.

But they still looked great, they almost looked tough lol joking. They did look slick. All black would have been better though.

The coach needs to give what the fans have been asking for a while now. We arnt asking for much are we?

Ya we are wearing black against the saints, JERSEYS though....

I wonder if there are any NFL rules on pants? Since we seem to be able to switch from black to white pants at will. They might have taken a no shirt, no shoes approach, where pants aren't particularly mandatory.

He doesn't like the ALL black uniform, as in black jersey AND black pants. I guess you don't remember when we used to wear that from time to time before the Harbaugh era?

We only wear black jerseys twice a year but never go all black because Harbaugh has apparently stated back a couple years ago, when he got the head coach job, that he doesn't like it.

This has been mentioned many, many times before. I'm surprised there are people on this board who still have not read/heard about it this.

There's no rule on pants because those aren't marketed to the public like the jerseys are; the licensing deal with Reebok (and now Nike) is why jersey selections must be made at the beginning of the season in terms of having one home jersey, one away jersey, and one alternate jersey.

The home and away jerseys are interchangeable and have no limit on their usage since that decision is based on the colors that the home team of each game designates for their own squad anyway. For example, if the Cowboys wear white at home, then the Ravens will wear their purple jersey when they travel to play Dallas on the road, even though the purple jersey is traditionally the home jersey. Conversely, if the Ravens choose to wear white at home, then the away team will wear their colored jersey in Baltimore.

The jersey designs, however, must be set well in advance of the season so that Reebok (and now Nike) can produce replicas to place on the market for consumers.

As for alternate jerseys, they are a marketing gimmick more than an actual team decision and every team in the league has an alternate jersey in use (with exceptions). These are also determined in advance of the season and they are only allowed twice a year so as to make them more "special" and increase consumer demand. The other reason why they're not used more often is because most teams' alternate jerseys (or even primary jerseys) are black, so if every team wore their black uniforms regularly, there'd be no telling them apart. The team colors are meant to be representative and unique of the team and the city, and that's the biggest reason why Harbaugh pushes for the purple jerseys in divisional games. Granted, the Vikings also wear purple, but that's a different shade and their secondary color is gold while the Ravens wear purple-and-black.

Well you can wear black in LA but if you showed up to the stadium in black you would be doing EXACTLY what the Ravens don't want you to do...

Wish they could come up with a better name than "Purple Out" but not many things rhyme or go well with purple...
