2010-2011 MD Terps Basketball

6 posts in this topic

I hope this is the appropriate place to start this topic... but I'm a big Maryland Terrapins fan (I go there) especially our basketball program because I find it more exciting to watch and we're better at it then at football (though we are bowl-bound this year).

Anyways, the Terps are 6-2 right now: 5-0 at home and 1-2 on the road. ACC play is still about a week and a half away, we open against Boston College next Sunday..

We're clearly not the team we were last year, we definitely are missing Vasquez, and even Hayes and Milborne hardcore, but this team could surprise some people. Last year we were pegged to be 6th in the ACC and we tied for the lead. Same preseason prediction this year.

Players are improving, specifically Jordan Williams, Cliff Tucker, Dino Gregory and James Padgett. Some of the freshman seem promising, but I'm not sold on Stoglin yet. Howard is pretty good though.

We reeally need to work on free throw shooting and rebounds though, both were better last night against Penn State but we looked very sloppy against Pittsburgh and Illinois.

This is just for discussing Terps basketball, but I'll pose a few generic questions...

First of all I am annoyed because our RPI is pretty bad, third worst in the ACC right now despite having more wins than most ACC teams. I don't get it.

Also, how will the Terps end up this year? My guess is that we'll go 11-5 in the ACC, and end up 3rd, and get a 6 seed seed in the NCAA tourney. Too optimistic?

Our RPI is bad because we haven't played anybody decent at home yet. I don't think there is any team in the conference that will be ahead of us and Duke, because North Carolina isn't what they were thought to be, and there really is no other good teams in the ACC. Very weak division this year.

About the predictions, remember we are a relatively young team. We have a few seniors, but there is going to be mistakes. Hopefully as we go, it'll get cleared up. I see a 10-6 record in our conference, despite the teams, and get a 7/8 seed.

BTW, I'm going to the BC game next Sunday. I'm pretty excited for the ACC schedule to start.

Me too.. I'll be at the game as well (well I'm at all the home ones) but I'm excited for it. BC is kind of a lame opener but it's still the ACC. I'll be more pumped in January when we get VA Tech and Clemson right before Duke.

Me too. Nothing is going to be too easy until we start playing like last game vs NC Greensboro every game. We can never seem to score points early in games.
