If the Texans lose... will that essentially eliminate them from playoff contention?
In a crowded AFC playoff race, yes, although they wouldn't mathematically be eliminated. 8 losses would eliminate them for sure because of the number of teams ahead of them.

I just heard both Millen and one of the other guys call Jason Avant "Maclin".
The NFL Network needs to make some changes. The games they get great but the announcing is just hard to listen to.

Is anyone really that impressed with Houston this game though? Foster is having his way and outside of a hail mary from Shaub to Johnson they really havent done a whole lot offensively in my mind.

They booed him hard early on but he's playing well and the Heat are pounding the Cavs so they've eased up somewhat. I'm loving it.

Thanks for the info Pu.

I saw Schaub's pick. UGLY!

Cavs fans need to get over themselves. LeBron is not worthy of such unbridled vitriol for just switching teams. Sheesh. :34853_shakehead:

Nah, because they have 6 ugly losses on the season already.

Matt Millen just belabored a point in four successive sentences, offered no real analysis, and got the player's name wrong. Wow. In analyzing Derrick Ward's run:

"Because Jammal Brown was able to get the edge for him. May have gotten away with a little bit of a hold, but on that left side, big Jammal Brown is able to secure the edge. Now, defensively, you have to protect that edge. It was not that time, Brown went to the battle, and another first down."

Umm...what?????? First off, his name is Duane Brown, offensive tackle for the Texans; Jammal Brown plays for the Redskins. Secondly, where was the analysis? What about setting the edge? Why do you keep repeating a point about the edge without explaining the concept in which Brown was able to successfully secure this edge? Why is it so important for the defense to proect that edge? What battle did Brown go to? What are you talking about?!!?

This commentary is beyond atrocious.

The change in defensive scheme seemed to help a lot. I'd call that impressive to be able to shut down the Eagles offense for almost half a game.

By the way, we better hope our O-line heals fast because this might be the Texans' game plan for us.

Houston Texans are starting to get hot now.

I think the love for the Eagles was a bit premature. All of us in the Pick em league picked the Eagles.

LOL

I heard that but seeing it in writing is just hilarious.

Madden used to do the same thing.

Not to get OT, but it's about more than just switching teams.

It's about putting on an hour-long display of vanity on ESPN in announcing his decision, disrespecting the city through the media in the weeks prior to making the decision, and essentially taking away a large source of income and tourism from the city just for the sake of playing in a notorious party city.

LeBron James was the city of Cleveland's economy, and though the city could have done more to bring itself up from the ruins, LeBron's arrival rejuvenated the city in several ways and they worshipped him in return. The biggest slap in the face for Cleveland, however, was LeBron's earlier remarks that he wouldn't dream of playing anywhere else but his hometown.

Maybe this is just me being picky, but speaking of commentating, I really don't like how Bucky Brooks starts all of his "commentary" with "- I mean". I hate when people do that. That's like saying you misspoke before you even said anything.

Same thing when I hear younger analysts say "like" between words and sentences. I admit to saying "like" on occasion, but otherwise, when you're making a point, saying "like" all the time only detracts from your argument because it makes it sound as if you have a limited vocabulary.

Don't tell me what something's like, tell me what it is!!

Not to belittle what Houston has done but I think the patheticness of Washington's defense that night really made Vick and the Eagles offense look better than they are. They're amazingly explosive but they can still be contained.

I don't see how Houston would employ the same defensive game plan for the Ravens as they have for the Eagles. The difference in personnel alone is why they wouldn't.

I meant for them on offense, their defense has adjusted nicely at first, but as I write the Eagles just when 60 yards on them with ease.

Definitely. "Like" is extremely annoying. Anyone who says "like" all the time strikes me as incompetent and unsure of themselves.

That and "literally". It's not that applicable to commentating, but I don't know when this caught on. The last one I heard was "I was literally dying." Really?

Agree about the first thing, but I would think it'd make sense to go with what worked the last game. Yes we're a different offense, but the overall idea of "pressure vs cover" is what I was getting at. There will probably be a larger emphasis on rattling Flacco after playing this game than before this game.

Okay, well if it's on offense, then no. Driving on a Samuels-less Eagles D? Easy.

In (unfortunately) paying more attention to this commentary, I've noticed that Bob Papa's sounded audibly annoyed by Theismann and Millen at times tonight. When he named Duane Brown a few minutes ago, he emphasized Duane's first name, almost as if to recall and correct Millen mistakenly calling him Jammal Brown earlier. Also, Papa seems to try to talk louder than Theismann and Millen at times like he's trying to cut them off and drown them out.

Commentator 1: Matt Shaub has room to run but he found Keven Water for a first down.

Commentator 2: Great job for Keven Water to stay in bound.

1min later

Commentator1: oh he didn't get the first down. The ball went through.

Maybe. As inconsistent as the Ravens' o-line has been in terms of run blocking this year, I'm not sure if Houston can shut down Rice and McGahee.

Are we really talking about butt cheeks?

Keisters and left cheeks.... wow.

I did like the "one-cheek sneak" reference though.

That's it for the Texans. They might be out of the playoff picture.
Pretty much.......... I mean 7 losses and if other contending teams win they will pretty much be out of it.

Another Wait Til Next Year season for the Texans.
