Fabian Washington, Our New Cb

101 posts in this topic

I was beginning to wonder when we were going to take a Corner, considering our struggles last year, and after Tyvon Branch and Justin King went off the board I wasn't sure we ever were. Then I watched as ESPN announced we traded our #125 overall pick to the Raiders for Fabian Washington, CB, who became the odd man out in Oakland with Hall and Asomugha there. I think this was a fairly good value considering he was a former first rounder. He's young, fast, has good hands and should fit in nicely in the Nickel spot to start the year and possibly be groomed to take over for Rolle or McAlister who are almost guaranteed to get nicked up at some point (although obviously I hope that does NOT happen)...

Great move by Ozzie to grab 1st round value by only giving up a 4th round pick. 5'11 with 4.29 speed and proven in the NFL. Here is a blurb about him...

""In his second season with the Raiders, Washington played 14 games, had 43 tackles, 4 interceptions and helped Oakland to 3rd overall defense and 1st in pass defense. While having Randy Moss as a teammate for two years, Fabian Washington picked on him in First Team offense versus First team defense scrimmages. He recorded 11 picks while covering Randy Moss in practice on September 17th, 2006. As the Raiders have signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall, Washington has been traded to the Baltimore Ravens for a 4th round pick during the 2008 NFL Draft."

That is a phenomenal move and really allows us to have an NFL ready young cover corner at the start of training camp.

He isn't a bust he just got replaced by DeAngelo Hall. Good young DB and a better option than anything we have on the roster to replace Rolle.

Me too man, great move. And oh whats this? We still have 4 picks left including another 4th so who knows what else we can add.

Another corner, Adrian Arrington, a kicker, and... I dunno

I love this move.. At 24 years old, Fabian Washington has been one of my favorite corners in the league and i always used to say to my friends how I wanted him in Baltimore.. Im ecstatic to find this out.. Washington ran a 4.29 forty, and has a vertical around 38 inches.. Now we've got a nickel back and a potential starter on the other side of the field as CMac.. Great move OZ!

Its like we got three first round picks in Flacco, Rice, and Washington at least value wise. You could even argue Zibby in there too. Great value, great picks. Can't wait to see what other magic we can make with our remaining 4.

Once again with Wizard of OZ has proven his worth and value to our team. Great move by the front office so far through the draft. We've addressed lots of important issues and hopefully we can get another steal before the draft is over.

Of course he is a bust, they gave up a 1st for a 4th rounder.

He already lost his job to Stanford Routt last season, not D-Hall.

1st round bust, just like Philip Buchanon. Hopefully he help us out a little bit...

I think its to early to call him a bust. Washington is still young and has a lot of upside. He's alot better then any backup DB we have at the moment.

Since we now have Washington, I am wondering who is the odd man out now.Either Ivy, Martin, Pittman, or Prude is out.

They also traded Randy Moss for a 4th Rounder last year, so under that logic Randy Moss is a bust too

In all fairness that is a completely different situation. They would have to cut Moss because he didnt want to play for them anymore. That was a trade where they just wanted to get something for him. I think Washington's struggles may have something to do with their struggles at safety. Everybody, says Rolle is on the decline because he seems to get burned alot but its not always his fault. In 06 Reed was out of position alot and caused Rolle to look really bad. That could be the same situation with Washington.

I think Martin or Ivy will be the odd man out as I think Pittman came on at the end of the year and I don't think we are gonna give up on a 3rd round pick from only 2 years ago so soon.. Prude can also play safety and is a good special teamer as well so that versatility I think secures him a spot, for now. Under Coach Harbaugh though, I think players are going to have to prove themselves a lot more.

Great move, cant get a player of his talent and experience with that pick anyways. Looks like we are going offensive with this draft. Load up cam with some talent and lets see what he can do

Why are you such a downer? I think Washington will develop into a star with the Ravens. The only reason that we were able to STEAL him is because Al Davis is an idiot. He signed Hall when he didn't even need him. The Raiders were one of the most fear pass defences with Fabian and Nnamdi (BEFORE Hall).

I think that Rex must have called in a favor from his brother in Oakland.

I agree, Washington should be able to make some plays with the Ravens this season. Also, he has tons of talent around him.

Great pickup, in my opinion. He's started a large amount of games in his 3-year career, and done pretty well. He already knows how to play the game. I think this choice was much better than drafting any of the corners who were available at the time.

Yeah, we have a better front seven then the Raiders. If everyone stays healthy and we are able to put the pressure on, alot of balls could go Washington's way and I think he has good hands.

I haven't seen him play but i remember when he was drafted lets hope he can help us at CB cause Cmac and Rolle are gettin old and all our back ups are short and get burnt alot.

I know this is a laughable argument in favor for a player, but he's an 85 overall in Madden 08. Not too shabby.

Haha yeah, he probably has a high speed too. B)

Clayton is a pretty speedy guy. If he can stop getting injured.

Oh man. Why are people calling Fabian Washington a bust? Hes not a bust. Hes got a lot of potential and if anyone has watched some of the Raiders games theyd know hes good. Hes just got to work on a little bit of his cut reaction skills. Other then that hes really fast and could replace either 1 of the 2 starting CBs on our team.
