I hate to disagree again, so I wont. However to that I will say is that it really is a mix. Look at Flacco for instance, he was not supposed to start that early but injuries and illness are a <bear>. Stevie johnson same story, there are a lot of guys who have won them on sundays, but there are also a lot who win in training camp as well, it really just boils down to who is ready when the opportunity presents itself.

I guess there are exceptions to the rule, that's just the philosophy I beleive from a coaching standpoint. If I can trust you in practice, I can trust you in games.

This year it is hard to say run and 4 and 5 wide because, we acquired one of the best FB's in the game and that would be putting one of our best player's on the bench. I have always been of the school of thought that you should put your best players on the field.

Here goes:

First stop being predictable. I really think that this year we have the personnel that just keeps people guessin. Last year our bane was we had 3 guys that ran the same routes.

I think our optimum set would be 2 wide, 1 TE, FB, RB.

We need to get dickson on some linebackers or safetys either way it goes it is really a mismatch except for maybe Willis. Have him run some seam routes or run some crosses.

Leave leach into block, or to receive or maybe give him the carry, or we could have him block for rice, or they could both run routes giving us 5 receiver's, or just have two and have 7 blockers. The possibilities are endless.

If we do have 3 wide it will really depends on the team. Teams like the steeler's where we have a clear speed advantage over we need to get torrey along in his progress and putting him on Boldin's side with evans drawing the safety and the #1 corner away leaving boldin in the slot hopefully while torrey takes another corner so Boldin is either on a safety or 3 rd string CB leaving dickon on a linebacker maybe farrior. Those 4 receiver's could be very scary not to mention having to keep an eye on rice running a delayed route while the underneath clears out giving him space or hit them with a deep pass go no huddle and then got to the draw, or maybe a screen, Leave leach into block and run some power get them biting up and Dickson will probably be the one getting up the field. Again the mind boggles at the possibilities, but I would also like to see the flea flicker now that we have some deep speed (as someone pointed out.)

Teams who have a very fast crop of CB's who play well in zones I want guys like Doss out there who have sure hands run great routes and attacks the ball. WE could have lee evans taking the top off of the with the safety now it is really more like a cover one and we could have doss run some slants to the area Lee cleared out, while dickson is dragging the linebacker the other way so it is doss one on one with a nickel back (I like that matchup personally.) Teams like that we have to have the sure handed guys out there who can attack the ball.

We also need to get David Reed involved He has more speed then guys like doss but is no Evans or Torrey so that being said, he could be a nightmare in the slot or if we do decide to go four he could have his shots to excel.
Or the two set getting back to power football leavin boldin on some slants either TE doing what they do or both and rice coming out so it looks like 2 receivers and then turning into five, or keeping them in and letting Leach get his chance to lay the wood on anybody.

The possibilities are truly endless, and I know it is arm chairing the hell out of things, but I am pretty sure we all think this offense is getting entirely to predicatble. When we are backed into a corner Cam brings out a small playbook and people know what it is. He does not call it like he does when he has the lead. Instead of playing it conservatice I want to see us fight like animals to get back in, if we lose we may lose but damn go out fightin not playin to not lose by a large margin. I would rather lose by 20 fighting and taking my shots then playing conservative and losing by 1.

Just a few thoughts

But the point is we have the personnel to just confuse the crap out of other teams and really we could mismatch anybody in my opinion if the play calling will match up to the aggressiveness that we need to have to really get after teams. We need to start hot and finish hotter.

Agreed on all counts, but I don't think a set with 3 WR, a TE, a FB, and a TB is possible man. That'd be 12 guys. :P

Yeah man, it's all good. I'm just messin with ya.

We need to get Torrey out there more, but still keep Leach out there as much as we can.

Just stop hiring below average veterans with no upside.

We don't agree much Blood, but I agree 200%. It just doesn't help the team that much.

Well I think we made alot of key acquisitions this offseason, pretty much all upgrades as ive said before. I think our strength, would come from 12 personnel (2 WR, 2 TE, 1 RB). If we field this the majority of the time, the possibilitiy of "set" from this package is almost limitless.

~~this set could turn into 3 wide, with a TE and a back, (run or pass set, however you can motion in our out of pass/run and audible depending on the defensive package and alignment)
~~could turn to 4 wide with a rb, (pass set, however.. you can read the defense and if they defend the pass with nickel or dime packages, you could motion both TE's back to the line and audible to run)
~~could turn into 5 wide empty set (pass set, however.. same as above, depending on defense, you can motion back to a tight formation and run the ball against 5/6 CB's,)
~~or could keep it as a tight set with both TE's on the line-->read the defense, and audible out to a passing formation against slower lb's and defensive linemen and less DB's on the field

*football is about matchups and taking advantage of those matchups, the fact that we have 2 TE's that can boss block considerably decent and have even better hands and speed gives us the opportunity to make presnap reads and audible according to what the defense has on the field. Which actually makes perfect sense to run no huddle in 2 different situations...

~~if we are down and playing catch up, run a few run plays without no huddle until the defense is in a typical 4-3/3-4 alignment, then run no huddle off that and stretch wide to pass formations

~~if we have the lead, run a few pass plays until you get nickel/dime formations, then run no huddle off of that in tight running formations

the fact that rice/pitta/dickson are just as dangerous in the run game as the pass opens up so many possiblities that we should be taking advantage of

This is what I would do, I would take 1 TE and a full back have a deep route plan for the other TE to make the catch. Then have TE1 and FB1 block down the field for a tackle breaking TE2 for either a TD or a very very long 1st down....
