Xbox Kinect

Simply amazing technology. If your questioning if the kinect really works, it does. It was a bad decision to purchase it because i can't get my GF off her dumb dancing/fitness games to play black ops.... If your thinking about it, go get one-it's amazing. Games are meh right now but they plan on releasing hardcore games for it in the future.

No thanks. I'm not sold or fond of these motion controlled games. In my opinion, games are meant to be played with joysticks and buttons, not jogging in place and flailing of the arms. Not to mention, there's no way in hell I'd pay $150 for it.

It isn't bad, but it isn't as good as it is either. I was playing that fighting game at my cousins and it is pretty fun, do about 6 or 7 fights and then they start beating on you because you get tired.

All the motion control are gimmicks to attract the average gamer and for family play. I don't see the hardcore gamer type going for this.

I agree with you. I remember when the Wii first came out I would joke with friends saying how in Madden we would actually have to throw a Football to pass the ball lol. I have the Wii but I still stick to my PS3. IMO the Xbox Kinect & Playstation's Move or whatever they call it is just a gimmick in order to keep up with the Wii.

The only games I played for the Wii was The Price is Right and The Biggest Loser Video Game which actually wasn't bad and I actually lost some weight from playing that game but until I popped my knee out of place from working out I haven't played BL much and only check my weight.

To me all this Motion Video game is going to get like how EA focuses more on Online Play than Offline Modes when it comes to Madden. Soon I wouldn't be surprised to see controllers with buttons and joy sticks going away similar to how Offline Franchise has been ignored for years in favor of stupid online gimmicks. I just hope in a few years Controllers with Joy sticks and buttons are still being made.

I don't think you really have to worry about that. I mean, it's true that the "casual gamer" will eat up the wii and PS3 (which I actually hear isn't too bad, but I stand pat), and the rich "casual gamer" will eat up the overpriced Kinect. However, I still believe that the "hardcore gamer" is still the biggest market in the industry. So for EA to slowly ignore "traditional controllers" in lieu of motion controls and for the industry in general to slowly phase out controllers would alienate a large portion of the consumers. People who grew up with the Atari or NES are going to be extremely stingy in accepting motion control as the "future of game control". Not to mention, there are just some things that, in my opinion, wouldn't mesh well with motion control.

At least for the Wii and Move, they still have D-Pads and buttons (but I'm still not buying them, Nintendo and Sony!). The Kinect... is pure motion, how is that going to work with first person shooters (or any shooter, for the matter) or even RPGs? Am I going to have to march in place and turn my body to navigate around the world? It just doesn't "fit" in my opinion, it's not as fluid as an actual controller. Let the casual crowd jump around like loonies in their living room, or do sit-ups and push-ups to a virtual version of Jillian Michaels.

i am guessing the majority of you who are against it haven't tried it yet. The range of motion it picks up is just crazy. I can use my fingers to select menu's, it knows if i am standing in front of the TV vs my Girlfriend, knows how long my arms are, knows my facial expressions, etc... I'm not saying ...Call of Duty is going to be a kinect game but they do plan on making a push into the hardcore gaming market with it. I am curious as to what they come out with.

and is 150 expensive for a multi-camera, infrared and motion sensor? I didn't think so at least... A lot better then buying a 100 overpriced scale...

Too bad we're talking about a GAMING SYSTEM here. Not a freaking camera, infared or motion sensor. I'm not a spy, nor am I setting up a one room security system. No matter what the Kinect does it doesn't change the fact that the "hardcore market" wants to play games, and you don't need a $150 piece of hardware that can detect facial expressions, hand movement (and unless something has changed I heard it can NOT detect individual finger movement), body part length (I'm sure that's good for some drunken fun) or anything else.

Motion Control is almost purely for casual gamers and the living room fitness freak. Which is astounding considering the price tag on the experience, whether it be for someone who already has an Xbox (just $150) or someone who's just getting into it (at least $350), is likely off-putting to a casual gamer. It's not going to transition well into the hardcore market, especially not the Kinect. There's not even a universal method of pausing with the Kinect, some games require you to hold out your hand and take several seconds to actually pause, which is useless. That alone only proves how 100% motion controlled gameplay is lacking to button controlled, or even methods such as the Move and Wii that combine the two.

This is just another effort by Microsoft to try make the Xbox more than "just a game console", which is a great thing sometimes and other times is mediocre. The Kinect is simply Microsoft's attempt to "one-up" Sony and Nintendo. On boy, you can turn on your Xbox and play movies via your voice! You can pet a virtual tiger and bond with it! You can play virtual obstacle courses and post the photos on Facebook to show all of your friends how tardy you look. The whole add-on is more gimmicky over practicality.

MS spy's on you while you play anyway with it.

Yeah, didn't you hear? Microsoft is looking to branch out into the amateur pornography industry, and Kinect is how they'll get their "exclusive content".

I'll put it like this: while the technology is impressive, it's not the new innovation in gaming that'll define the next big wave of gaming in the future.

The inherent limitation is our own human fatigue. Fact of the matter is, there are far more people that play games to relax, and physical activity, no matter how light or strenuous, is a deterrent to many people who are looking to take a break from their daily grind. Sure, they'll develop so-called "hardcore" games for motion controls on all three major consoles, but the vast majority of gamers will be opposed to motion controls because it defeats the purpose of relaxation in the recreational aspect of gaming. You can't really relax if you're forced to flail your limbs about in order to make things happen, and marathon video game sessions are pretty much out of the question unless you want to pass out eventually.

Again, it's not an issue of effort on the part of the gamer, it's an issue of practicality in its purpose. While the functionality of the Kinect is not in question, the practicality itself for a hardcore or even moderate gamer (like myself) is questionable.
