Joe Flacco--merged Threads

The happiest man in the draft room when we selected Joe seemed to be offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Cameron had spent a lot of time studying Flacco, plus spending time with him.

Worst draft ever.

I'm sorry but this is a horrible draft for us.

It's not even over yet. Not even CLOSE to being over yet.

Don't lose faith in The Castle. They know what they're doing.

Yea, agreed. The draft isn't even over. I have faith. I'm actually really happy with what the Ravens did today. Hopefully Ozzie can find some good players in the third tomm.

At the end of the day, we are all united in our support of the men who strap on their helmets for the purple-and-black.

Fact of the matter is, Joe Flacco is now one of those men.

And whether or not you agree with the pick, you can't deny that IF Flacco wins games on Sundays, you'll be forgetting all about how "questionable" this pick may be.

We are all just spectators. We're fans who are average people who don't have the type of football knowledge that these professionals in the draft room do.

I trust the draft room's judgment, and I trust that they, along with the coaching staff, know what is best for this team.

John Harbaugh has put his full trust in Cam Cameron in revamping this offense. Cam Cameron clearly stated to Ozzie Newsome & Co. that he needed another QB to work with to fully maximize his scheme's potential. All Ozzie & Co. can do is bring in the talent. It's up to the coaching staff now to make it work, and it's up to the players to put in the effort.

So when it's all said and done, let's just detach ourselves from the situation and let things unfold as they may.

Hold on now. People can still have an opinion. If they dont like the pick they dont like the pick. That has nothing to do with someone's "fanhood". People are not oblivious to what is going on with college players. A bunch of Ravens fans hated the Kyle Boller pick, to this point they were not wrong about that one.

I didn't like the Flacco pick but the Rice pick was good. I liked Rice in the beginning of the season for rugters. Although I was preying for Sweed, the Ray pick was fine

Troy Smiths still the future

Ha. He was never drafted to be anything other than a project QB. You didn't think we drafted a qb in the 5th to be the future did you? Those are the picks that if they turn out great, GREAT!. If they don't you didn't expect them to anyways. (slowly counts down to the uneducated mentioning of Brady)

Big Arm

Mobile

OH LAWDY NOT AGAIN

My thoughts exactly but i'll put confidence in Cameron and no immediate baptism by fire for Flacco.

my bet is troy smith is done in balt unless someone gets hurt, boller will start maybe play this whole year and flacco will take over next year.

IDK about done. Both him and Boller are fighting for a spot with this team as whoever gets 3rd string after camp might as well start looking at real estate in other cities.

Dude, have no fear, ozzie knows what he's doing. I have faith, everything will work out fine, just be patient and let things sort themselves out first ;)

I wasn't questioning fanhood.

I was just saying that, at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, Flacco is a Raven and he represents Baltimore now. Because of that (in reference to the negative comments about him as a player, not the pick), I was basically saying we shouldn't be rooting for him to fail.

Luckily Ozzie liked the pick. Cameron and Harbaugh were giddy with the Flacco selection. Supposedly, according to Ozzie in his recap about the Texans trade, two other teams were looking to trade with the Texans specifically targeting Flacco at #18.

The pick, at #18, might play out well or it might not. I'm just glad there's a good deal of excitement in the draft room (the guys were even hugging at one point). It means a lot to me to see an "amped" brain trust. It's interesting to see Henne and Brohm go about 40 picks below Flacco... Maybe these draft gurus DO know what they're talking about now and then.

I'm a bit disappointed with our choice.

Thought we would get a good CB in the first.

But I don't know exactly how good Flacco is, so he will show how good he is.

me to i dont know if flacco is better then whats already on our roster i kinda wish we would have taken a micheal jenkins and then maybe a chad henne in the second but what do we know . i did here that in the long term they do predict that flacco will be better then matt ryan after some coaching. i dont know

And by the way.. in case you haven't seen the video yet on br.com, couch harbaugh said that drafting flacco doesn't change the contest to see who will be the starting QB. So, no need to fear troy is done now because we drafted flacco, or even kyle, it only means that the QB competition will be that much more exciting!

I also saw that video and I dont believe that for one second. You dont draft a guy in the first round, if you believe you already have 2 great QB's on your roster. I respect that Harbaugh is trying to give Smith and Boller the benefit of the doubt but I dont believe for one minute that there is a real QB competition going on beyond this season. Flacco will probably sit for a year but after that, this is his team. It doesnt matter how Boller or Smith play.

Worst draft ever.

I really don't mind getting Flacco as our 2st rounder. He's a down-to-earth kinda guy from what i've read and hes got some talent too him too. However things unfold, I look forward to all 3 quarterbacks competing for the starting role. The competetive nature of this preseason will really improve all 3 quarterbacks because none of the 3 will want the other 2 to step up more than they do.

However, I'm rather disappointed with our 2nd rounder.... do we really need another running back? I mean c'mon we got Willis, Musa, and then there's Ross. I know we got rid of Anderson but do we really need 4 running backs to begin with?

that being said...

GIVE US SOME DEPTH IN THE BACKFIELD!

We need some secondary somethin fierce, our corners are still NFL-calibur no doubt but theyre getting old and we won't necessarily be able to say that for much longer

I think Joe will only push Troy to become a better Quarterback! Remember what Coach Harbaugh said.... "It'll be tough for anybody to come in and win a job against [boller and Smith]," Harbaugh said after today's minicamp practice. "Those two guys are solid quarterbacks and they can both play. But whoever we draft is going to be a real good quarterback, too. So, it's going to be a competition. We're going to roll the balls out and let them fight for the job."

I believe in Troy an still feel that he is Baltimore's future!!!!!

Musa is gone. Before we drafted Rice = McGahee was pretty much it at running back. Sure we have Ross - but we all remember when we went into a season with a depleated running back group - we had Grbac as QB & virtually no running game. I say smart pick from Oz with 6 picks coming in rounds 3&4 we will get some quality CB player.

Good for being positive on your player but realistically you dont trade up in the 1st round to draft a QB & he not be your future QB. If they gelt this good about Troy they would have drafted him higher then 5th round last year.

Although I am all for the QB competition!

What? I was all for us NOT picking up a QB in the 1st round but I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out so far.

Im very happy with how Ozzie drafted today on the first day. I love Flacco, and Ray Rice just gives us even more strength on offense.. Ozzie clearly wants us to be an offensive threat next season. I cant blame him for picking Rice, there werent any corners worth that pick there so Ozzie went with one of the best available.. The next few rounds we'll probably get a quality lineman, offensive and defensive aswell as a corner.. We have a ton of picks left and our needs should be filled by the end of day 2.. 6 picks in the next 2 rounds.. Ozzie is amazing...

The big difference in this pick compared to Boller is CAM! The man knows qb's and can teach em up unlike anyone else. He wouldn't let them pick a guy he didn't feel was right for his system, which is a great system, alot of you are forgetting about him. Cam knows what he's doing, and i'm sure Oz got Cam's insight on this pick. Boller came from a sytem in Cal where all qbs are great. Just look at all the the track record of great qbs who have came out of Cal the past few years and been NFL flops. I still think Boller has potential, if he ever had time to drop back and set his feet for a second. Let's face it, the thing that really needs help here is the O-Line. Without that it doesn't matter who's behind center.

Also if Joe earns the job so be it, but I think after Boller was eaten alive and ruined by starting day one, I think the organization will take a different approach this year, and really let Kyle and Troy battle it out. I Expect Kyle to start and depending on how things go maybe Joe can see some PT later in the year.

We needed a Running Back, Musa Smith Is not here anymore and Ross is unproven, so what He had one good game.. McGahee is not a Jamal lewis.. someone who can carry it 30 times. He is a 18-25 carry guy who can pick up huge amounts of yards anytime He touches it, But He needs a good Back to come in and handle the load part of the game.Ray Rice is a guy who should Help right away, I Diddnt know much about this guy but I did know that we needed a back in the early part of the draft.

I love this pick, and we are fine in the secondary, our starters are coming back Healthy and our Backups played well towards the end of the season and should learn a whole lot more this Off season.

Probally, anytime you change a QB It makes it hard for the receivers, and the O-line, Every QB has diffrent styles of play, Troy Smith Likes to roll out anytime that he feels pressured, and Boller likes to sit behind center.. Think about the O-Line, If there used to TS playing and Rolling out to the right there going to be pass blocking and trying to keep there guy from getting to the right side of there line, and If Boller is Playing there just going to Be pushing and creating a pocket.

Boller has a Cannon for a arm and likes to "wing" the ball, where TS seems to "lobby" the ball alot more, Boller has no touch IMO and TS puts a perfect touch.

true, I would just kind of like to see both of them used, I definitely don't want Flacco in there running the show this year unless he proves without a doubt in training camp and preseason he can handle it.

I'll be honest when I say I didn't read this whole thread but the most important part came on the first page from neepo13; the Troy Smith era is done. You don't draft a QB in the 1st round with your current QB situation to be a backup. There's endless possibilities of what "could" happen but the bottom line is this will become Flacco's team and Smith will be a 3rd stringer at best.. if even that.

In being a Browns fan and genuine NFL fan I will say that I don't really know what Flacco will amount to in the future but for your sake, I hope that this doesn't become "Charlie Frye, part 2." He'll feel a lot of pressure and perhaps he'll handle it better and turn out to be a good solid QB. As with any QB that gets drafted you just never know.

As a Browns Fan you should be the last to be saying this, you guys drafted Brady Quinn to be your "future" and you know the funny thing is that coming into season 2 He is still not even a option to be the starter. Troy Smith era can and will start if He is showing that He can be a NFL starter, and if not then He wont be nothing but a Backup or 3rd stringer.

But the real truth is if Kyle Boller does not to anything to help this ball club this year then He probally wont be here next year.

Then like you guys type of situation.. If TS shows that He's the better man then He will have the job over Flacco, if not then (like Quinn) He will be the backup while the other guy gets the fat pay check.

Bottem line is just because a QB is selected in the 1st round DOES NOT mean that team will let that guy come in and just steal the job.

To be honest I hope it is an open competition and Troy gets a chance. Yes he was a late rounder but plenty of late rounders have succeeded. It doesn't matter what round you come out in, it's about adjusting to the pro level and being able to compete. Look @ SF, Chicago and others. 1st rounders guarantees nothing except hopefully getting someone that is more prepared but we will see. I love my team and they have my support regardless of if I agree with them or not.

Best case scenario is the Cleveland situation.... Troy gets to play and plays great and becomes the starter, if that happens we would still have Flacco which could present value for trade or other opportunities in the future. If Derek Anderson has another great year trust me Cleveland will be able to trade Quinn for either high picks or some high value players so having 2 good QB's on the roster can be a blessing in disguise if that is what happens.

Hopefully this is the beginning oF Baltimore marching their way back to the top of the division and hopefully another superbowl.

GO RAVENS!
