I don't think I've ever disliked any official more than Ron Winter. After the trail of controversy that's followed him, including some blown calls that were [i]publicly acknowledged[/i] by Mike Pereira back when he was the head of officiating, I can't believe he's still allowed to preside over games at the professional level. It's not bias that concerns me with Ron Winter, it's just the lack of logic in some of the calls he's made, especially the frequency of phantom calls. With most calls on the field, I can find a basis as to why the call was made, especially in imagining the viewing angles on the field. But with Ron Winter's crew, there's just something about him as the head referee that always casts a spectre on games that should otherwise be instant classics.

Are referees fined for calls that are later deemed to be incorrect? They should and maybe it'd cut down on bad calls.

No, but they're "graded" and these grades determine whether or not the crew gets playoff games, Championship games, and the Super Bowl.

Since they are paid per game (not salaried or full-time), they are penalized by having game assignments taken away from them, thereby taking away opportunities for them to get paid. As stated earlier, those game assignments also include playoff games, for which I believe they are paid a bonus. And of course, the Super Bowl is only assigned to the highest-graded crew of the regular season.

Me too, and YES my calls may be a little biased........ I have to counter the biased calls of the officials. I usually count how many holding calls that get missed when the Ravens pass rush is penetrating the backfield.

was it in a Ravens game? Steratore and Parry are usually good for some looooong explanations. Then you have the other ones like winter and coleman that will just come out and say "confirmed" or "overturned" and walk away
