It's Steeler Week! Steelers Vs Ravens

813 posts in this topic
I get what youre saying but all Im saying is I would rather win this game this Sunday in Baltimore then have won that game in Pittsburgh earlier in the year if we had to split with Baltimore like we do a lot of the time because this game will be closer to the playoffs and will have a greater impact on the standings going into the last 4 games. The Steelers while they did lose to the Ravens in week 4 had enough time and enough games left to make up for that loss which they did. The Ravens if they lose to the Steelers on Sunday wont have that same luxury as they will need a lot more to fall their way and most likely need to win out...
maybe I'm just dense, so help me out here....
If we split our series, 1 game a piece, how would the date of the victories impact the final standings in any way? Do we get extra credit for winning games in December?

No of course not but you have less margin for error if you lose this game this week as opposed to the one the Steelers lost back in October. The Steelers still had 12 games left back then to make up for that loss to the Ravens and get themselves in position to be tied with the Ravens going into this rematch this Sunday which is what they are now. The loser of this game will only have 4 games left to try to catch the winner of this game is all Im saying as opposed to 12 games and that's a big difference. The bottom line is and let's just be quite blunt about it the loser of this game Sunday night is pretty much royally screwed when it comes to still having a legit chance to still win this division.

Just the steelers alone is enough to make this a huge game.

All that is riding on this game,,,,,,,,,, sheesh !!!!!
I am PUMPED already.

(wish I could be there)

We need to tie Polamalu's hands to his ankles...
maybe blindfold him as well.

okay, i like blunt. Yeah, I would have to agree that the loser of this game most likely is looking at a WC berth, if we both win out the remainder of the season.

But that is a huuuuuge if. It is very possible that we win on Sunday, but then lose to the Saints and you beat the Jests.

IT is also very possible that you win on Sunday, then lose to the Jests while we beat the Saints.

So, no one is screwed, they will have just dug themselves into a big hole.

Oh Sure-and this message board is just so amazingly full of enlightening material. Talking about how great the Ravens are and how they will smash the Steelers. You guys are the hilarious ones. I guess you think we are just gonna roll over for Flacco and let him stand around in the pocket and have fun huh? Doubtful in fact I can promise that Flacco will not have any time to pass and everyone knows what happens to Joe when he is pressured!
First, welcome to the site. Second, it will be a hard fought game. Now, onto the meat and potatoes.... When have the Ravens ever had a qb with all day in the pocket? Never. Our Oline is and has been overrated for a long time. Sure, JO shut down most everyone, but the right side has been suspect ever since I can remember. However, Joe does better (imo) when he doesn't have all day to throw. In fact , a more advantageous scheme would be to sit back in coverage and force him to make a throw. He has a tendency of getting happy feet and loses his mechanics. Take a look at the Cincy game.... plenty of time to throw but it was his worse game of the year.
I don't have numbers in front of me but I'm willing to bet Flacco is better against the Blitz then he is against a 3 man rush. Go figure......

As for actually comparing message boards, its out of my area of expertise.... I will say this though, plenty of posters here call things how they are.... not how they subconsciously want them to be. So, for you to think we're all homers and think we ARE ALL CERTAIN WE will dominate the STEELERS... You're mistaken, if you stick around long enough you'll find that to be false.

Enjoy the site, remember that a handful of opinions don't necessarily mean its the view of the majority. Though, you're a guest here so be respectful and things will be A OK.

Nice already doing predictions? Gotta say rice will definItaly get more than 10 yards receiving. .With this line we will bw check down masters
i would agree with u on that, i will say also i think he will have close to if not more receiving yards than running, with our passing attack we should utilize rice out of the backfield, split set with willis and rice in the backfeild, 3 wideouts or 2 with heap, run outta the shot gun to keep there lbs spread out, and take short passes, stretch the field with dante as well

I haven't commented on here for quite some time but it is Steeler week, which is always a big deal for both sides (whether it's admitted or not), so I figure I might as well put my 2 cents in. This game will be nerve-rackingly close, which I'm currently preparing myself for, though I'd love to blow them out I don't see that happening anytime soon especially in this game because it's so important. You know, 'cause we're tied(though we have the tiebreaker), the winner will potentially win the division, and all the playoff home-field-advantage and what not.

Anyway, if the Ravens choose any game to play a "complete game" this one would be a good one to choose. The fact that Ben has an injury won't keep him out of the game but if our pass rush performs as well or better than they did against the Bucs it'll make it easier to get to him and get him off his game. I have no problem with Harrison not playing. If your defense is only good because of one player than your defense is not good, but the Steeler defense is good so we can't give them oppurtunities because they'll take them. If we gameplan well and call a good game we should be fine and I know there's more to it but I've gone on too long already.

I'll wrap it up by saying I have complete faith in the team and staff and will be cheering them on throughout the game never losing that faith. Since momentum will be a huge factor in this game my last words are to all who will be attending the game; get loud, REAL LOUD.

Yea but if we win on Sunday and lose to the Jets and you guys beat the Saints and we both finish 12-4 assuming we win our remaining division games with the Bengals and the Browns the Steelers still win the North based on a better division record. The loser of this game will need a lot of help and when you need to start relying on a lot of help to win the division or get into the playoffs then more times then not you usually dont get it.

I don't think that's how it works. The Steelers are trying to win every game. If you're just talking about your perception as a fan, then I understand what you mean.

Of course they are trying to win every game you never go into a game and say well Id rather win this game then lose this game. That's the fans job to do that stuff which is what we do best. It's like when I sat here a month ago when the Steelers were on their tough 3 game roadtrip and said I would have rather lost to the Saints then lose to the Bengals and the Dolphins on the road because the Saints was an NFC game and the Bengals and Dolphins were division and conference games...

It might be Steeler week, and the division may be on the line in this game, but we need to consider that both teams need to travel to Cleveland and play the Browns who have the power to beat both teams.
Just something to think about.

No we dont have to. Just know that Im not the only one on here doing it though either. Im just taking more heat for it because I am a Steelers fan as opposed to a Ravens fan. If you look at JO's threads where he does playoff scenarios he does ifs and buts more then anything. But it's okay because he is a Ravens fan and I am a Steelers fan lol... Look We all know what's at stake this week so we will see how things play out and where we both are a week from today...Both teams are not going away no matter what happens in the game Sunday night...

No, you're getting heat because nearly all of your posts have dealt in hypothetical scenarios. The play-off thread is built on discussing possible outcomes but you seem to discuss them in every topic.

If you want to know how whacky this football season truly has been then look no further then what the Browns have done this season. How do you go from beating both the Saints and Patriots by 20 points and completely dominating them, and then turn back around yesterday and need a missed FG by Kasay of 41 yards to beat the worst team in the NFL in the Carolina Panthers. Just goes to show you every week is different and you just never know...

I never said I dislike what you write. The same "arguments" just get old.

Anyway, as it pertains to the game, what do you guys think the rally towels the team will be handing out? Personally, I don't like them.

I don't like the idea of the purple towels but it will be good to blanket the few yellow ones that will be there too. No doubt the steelers fans will say we stole the idea but then we can point to the fact that they stole the HEAP chant from us and made it dumb.

Im sure that some of the Steelers players should they win this game will get their hands on one of those purple rally towels and put it to good use... TJ did it when the Ravens won here back in Pittsburgh and I could definitely see somebody on the Steelers returning the favor...

I like the idea.
Who cares what the Steelers do.
Who cares if the idea came from them?

Show your pride, and if you go to the game, show your pride, and make yourself heard.
That is what being a fan is all about.
If it's a home game, your voice could be a factor in the game, even on the road.

I already am foreseeing us getting crap for the rally towels pretty much from Steeler (not all) fans mainly. So for that simple fact I don't know if I completely like it. I'd prefer a black out versus the purple out because in my opinion it's cooler, but I understand that black is also a Steeler color. Anyway, it should be interesting to see.

By the way, the Dolphins started the towel thing with white towels but it didn't catch on like the "Terrible Towel" did in Pittsburgh. Probably because it was just a white towel and wasn't given a name.

Im not a big fan of the purple towels either, but stealing the HEAP cheer is awful and incredibly un-imaginative.

The Ravens will try to keep the run relevant in this game but we all know the Steelers secondary is their weakness. I expect to see Joe exploiting that match up all day next week.

As long as our defense plays well and can keep Ben from extending plays by allowing him to scramble all around and outside the pocket we should win this. The Ravens offense > The Steelers offense

I hope to see Ben scramble more because I want to see him being hit by Ngata.
The way Ngata is playing this season should help to limit Ben running.

Ngata is having a great year but I highly doubt he's going to discourage Ben from taking off when he wants or has to.

Should be handing out rally sandwichs...they were always good for a couple runs during baseball double headers lol
