Black Friday Buys/deals

23 posts in this topic

Well tomorrow is black friday, but I already made a buy since stores are doing it a bit earlier this season.

I just bought a PS3 with Modnation racer and little big planet (the first one) for 300$

and Madden 11 for 35$. Both from best buy.

Just wondering what yall are gonna get tomorrow (or already got)

NBA 2K11 $30, Walmart at midnight.

Otherwise I try to stay away from the mindless consumer culture battlefield Black Friday turns into.

IDK When we went to my Aunts at 1130 people were lined up at Best Buy and when we came home at 830 it was halfway around the building and a WBAL sat truck was in the parking lot.

I generally recommend AVOIDING purchasing video game consoles on Black Friday, mainly because they likely won't be marked down from their usual price point. In the case of the PS3 and Xbox 360, the primary models will run you $300 and most of them are sold in bundles that could've been had last month and will likely run for the same price next month.

I'd exercise caution and either buy only the bundle you want with specifically everything you want (extra controller, extra games, extra movie, extra accessories, etc.) and nothing that you don't want in the bundle. Generally, a good deal is the standard console with controller + extra controller/accessory + two games minimum. Anything less than that is a rip-off. Don't fall for the standard console-only + store gift card deal because, if you think about it, the value you get from a bundled console's individual parts is worth more than the console + monetary value of the gift card.

Amazon is running the Passport Portable edition (no power supply needed) for $89.99 (originally $144.99) as part of their limited Lightning Deals. You got a pretty good deal in comparison.

I absolutely can not stand Black Friday. I'd rather stay home and spend the extra money to go shopping in peace and quiet instead of fighting lines/parking, dealing with hundreds of crazed people and no carts. The ONLY time I'll support Black Friday is when you're purchasing an expensive item (ie: TV) and you can save hundreds. Aside from that... everyone who leaves their house when it's still dark outside to save $20 is an idiot.

Amazon.com is the way to go when it comes to online shopping today. They'll have time-sensitive lightning deals running through tomorrow, and then pick back up with Cyber Monday deals that are followed by regular holiday savings until December 23rd.

I'd mainly recommend it if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber since you get free 2-day shipping on ALL products, so no need to worry about filling your cart up with $25 worth of products just to get free shipping within that 15-minute window you have to checkout when you add a lightning deal to your cart. If you're a college student with a valid .edu email address, you can get a 1-year Prime subscription for free. Otherwise, I believe it's still $70 to subscribe. I swear by it since I save so much on shipping after only a few purchases.

So far, I've seen $2 DVDs (many of them new or recent releases), $5-10 Blu-Ray movies, $15 DVD boxsets, $10 quality PS3 and Xbox 360 games, heavily discounted laptops and TVs, and some home appliances. I've already gotten my nephew a great starter collection for his PS3 and I'm working on getting stuff for my parents and my niece. Aside from the lightning deals, they also have steep discounts (especially in electronics) that you can hunt for, lasting all weekend.

For the record, didn't leave home until 6:45, had no trouble parking anywhere. Carts were plentiful. And, I save hundreds of dollars on all the stuff I bought. Also had a big breakfast at the diner between stops. Black Friday is all about planning ahead, knowing your route, and not killing yourself. It's a annual tradition in my house and we all look forward to it. Then again, we're not going to Toys R Us or WalMart today.

Found the very last Medal of Honor limited Edition for 30 bucks on the PS3 at Wal-Mart. Great deal since the game just came out last month, comes with Medal of Honor Frontline and I'll get to play the Battlefield 3 beta when that happens.

I've decided that "Black Saturday" rules. Went to Sears at 8:00 this morning...great deals and no one in the store. Parked right in front of the door.
