Under Utilizing Players List

14 posts in this topic

maybe one game this season we will see D.reed, pitta or smith catch a pass, or let parmele touch the ball once on offense. but my theory is get as many players involved as possible, even for one or couple snaps a game, they could our answers to Run D or our punctured pass coverage, think about this for a sec: we know how elusive is d.reed is, or stallworth speed,

under-utilized players list

[*]Haruki-maybe we need put him on the field more?
[*]carry williams- looked pretty good in the preseason, or
[*]phillips- rotate him in w/mcclain/ellerbe/goodens he's tackling machine, since we're getting smashed by 4th string RBs
[*]divens or mckinney- r they still on our roster?
[*]i almost forgot this one Brendon Ayanbadejo- i had to acually copy and paste his last name, but where the heck is he, i have not heard his name since he was activated off the PUP
i should put willis on this list too, lol

You hear coaches say it all the time. "I'm going to put the players that give us the best chance to win on the field." I think there is arguably a better player on the field, at taht position, for each name you have written above.

Brilliant idea. Play second and third stringers because they might be the answer  Harbaugh and the rest of the coaching staff see these "underutilized" players play much more often than us, the fans. So obviously from how they are performing in practice, the coaches do not think they are "the answer" to any of the mentioned problems.

Yeah. Nakamura's a beast.

Speaking of utilizing players, I think Flacco did a better job of wielding Houshmandzadeh than previously: Housh did great in Carolina.

Kruger already gets a good number of snaps.

Haruki gets snaps in some dime packages.

With all the mouths to feed on offense and the unit's overall inconsistency, why should the team add one more player to the mix in Reed?

Stallworth is playing a bigger role but again, only so many players can get the ball.

I've seen Ayenbadejo on D at times and he's supposedly good in coverage but if a team decides to run the ball, he'd fair no better than McClain or Gooden. His injury might also be a reason he hasn't played as much.

We need to use Willis a lot more. The way our line is playing, I think he'd give us more stability at RB. Cam-- why are you not putting Rice and McGahee out on the field at the same time, even if just a few times a game??

Multiple playmakers in the backfield? That's too simple for Cam.

haha, true, he does seem to like a challenge, which explains a lot of his playcalling/decisions.

Very well then, line Willis up as a TE, have him chip a LB, during which time Flacco hands it off to Rice, Rice pitches it to Willis and Willis passes it back to Rice on a satanic version of a flea flicker. Complex enough for ya Cam?

Harbs is a huge believer in players earning their way on the field for the most part. Obviously guys like Flacco, Boldin, Rice, Ray, Reed Ngata and Suggs will be on the field, but younger guys like the names you mentioned have to earn their way on the field.

Cam actually said that he had a pass play designed for David Reed, but Reed was sick and wasn't prepared to go into the game at the time. We've seen a end around with Reed a couple weeks ago, so the young WR must be showing the coaches something in practice that would warrant him seeing game action.

As stated before, Nakamura gets a good amount of snaps on a regular basis. Cody got his first start last week, Kurger has been playing more, and Dickson has been on the field a lot more.

Players like Pitta, Parmele, Divens, and Phillps have to work harder in practice and prove they are players that can help on gameday. You can only have 45 players active.

For a guy like Phillps, just he looked to be a tackling machine in preseason but he also looked lost in pass coverage. You don't think NFL QBs, and OCs would be smart enough to attack him on 1st and 2nd downs with passes. Do you really want to see him matched up one on one with a TE or RB. Phillps beat out Ellerbe for playing time last week, if he can continue to do that and also show he has improved as a LB, i'm sure he will start to see some action.

I saw Prescott Bugress on the field at least once at LB which was a welcomed sight to me. I think he's a really good young OLB and he's seem to improve each year since being drafted. If he continues to work hard i wouldn't be surprised to see him get about 4 or 5 plays spelling JJ during some games.

Stallworth hasn't pracitced with the offense since the preseason. I'm sure because of his injury the Ravens are working him back in slowly. This is an offense that is just really start to jell and find it's way. Now isn't the time to just be giving guys a opportunity to play just because. We saw Dickson drop a couple last game, earlier in the season Pitta misread a zone coverage. It's what these guys do during the week, that we don't see, that determines if they play on Sundays.

Also the Ravens didn't get smashed by a 4th string RB. Goodson had 120 yards on 22 carries. The Ravens made one mistake in the run game, when Cody got cut blocked and that opened a huge hole up the middle for 45 yards. Goodson also had 2 rushes in grabage time that amounted to 22 yards. That's 67 yards on 3 plays. Other then those 3 plays Goodson had 19 carries for 57 yards, for 2.8 yards per carry. The run defense will be ok
