Dilfer Ranks The Top 5 Afc Quarterbacks

27 posts in this topic

via sportscentre

1. Rivers
2. Brady
3. Manning
4. Sanchez
5. Roethlisberger

He says Sanchez is the NFL's next elite QB... <_<

..Maybe he should rank the top 5 worst QB's to win a Superbowl.

Talk about living in the moment.

Three comebacks wins against some below average teams(games in which the opposing teams basically choked) after getting shut out at home make you top 5 QB? I'll take Schaub, Fitzptrick and a guy named Joe over him any day.

Joe has more yards, more TDs and the same INTs (of which we all know 4 were in one anomaly of a game that was the Cincy game).

CRAP!!

Wow. I just lost a lot of respect for him. There's no way that you can rank Rivers above Brady and Manning. And Sanchez is better than Roethlisberger?

I do agree with the Rivers over Manning and Brady part...As I've said before, I don't like the guy, but he's playing lights out this year!

He's correct with Rivers being #1 for this years performance alone. Without Rivers the Chargers would quite literally be 1-9. His list all makes sense and then its like #4 Sanch....say whaaaaaaa

I think it goes

Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Flacco

I guess Trent decided to only credit the QB for all those Jets come from behind wins. Santonio Holmes is making Sanchez look amazing.

Rivers hasn't won anything. They get to the postseason every year and falter. It's one thing to say he's on the level of Manning and Brady, but you can't put him above them yet.

...It's Trent Dilfer. You guys are really mad over what Trent Dilfer had to say about QB's?

To be fair though, I think it was about two weeks ago that Flacco was like number four in the MVP watch. That position shouldn't change now.

I think any list that includes Sanchez should give an assist to Holmes. Sorry, but Holmes won those last two games for Jets, not Sanchez. Sanchez is good, but not anywhere near top 5 in the conference.

Granted the top 3 are a lock. Championship or not, Rivers is the best quarterback in the AFC, he's as important to the Charger offense as Manning is to the Colt offense (especially this year). Manning and Brady are naturally second and third. Reluctantly, I'd probably place Ben fourth, and homer or not, Flacco at fifth. Joe's made huge strides and proved he's got the talent to be a big name quarterback in the league.

After that, I'd definitely put Schaub ahead of Sanchez, and Orton as well probably.

The top 5 has to have Manning, Brady, Rivers, Flacco and Ryan in it. Then there is everyone else
Matt Ryan plays in the NFC though.

I'd move up Roethlisberger to #4 and the fifth spot would be a tie between Flacco/Schaub/Garrard.

I'd give Flacco the lone fifth spot once I see him perform against the Bucs this weekend and how he performs against Cover 2. That's the only part of his game I haven't seen him pass expectations of this season.

This is going to be a very important game, hopefully he outperforms expectations this week and starts to get the recognition he deserves.

How can you NOT give it to Brady, he has beaten the best teams and his team is in a BIG upswing. They have a defense that is in the bottom tier of the league. The Chargers have had a soft schedule and still arent leading their division. Losses to Seattle , Oakland and STL? Give me a break. He has great numbers but leading your team to victory is paramount. I'll give Sanchez his dues, hes been playing well.

Here is a link to the stat match up on nfl.com. This doesn't account for Joe's additional playoff experience as well. I'm so tired of hearing about the Jets

Sanchez is currently 22nd in the NFL passer rating. Dilfer is overly influenced by the teams' records. Sure, the Jets are 8-2, but they're a whisker away from 5-5. They beat the Lions by 3, and squeaked out cardiac (Santonio-led) wins against the Browns and the Texans the last 2 weeks. I give them props, good teams win close games, but it wasn't Sanchez. His 55.1% completion rate is third worst among starting QBs in the entire league.

If the question is, who are the top 5 AFC QBs in 2010 (not necessarily in "talent", but in performance):

1. Brady
2. Rivers
3. Roethlisberger
4. Manning
5. Flacco

Orton and Garrard would have valid arguments with my list...

ah, so that explains why everyone is snubbing Matty Ice lol .... Sorry, I forgot about the "in the AFC" part.

As much as it pains me to say so, I have to then place Sanchez in the #5 slot of the AFC so far.

I don't think anyone is as good as Peyton. Brady didn't beat him on Sunday, the Pats did. In terms of the actual game, those 3 INTs he threw ment something. They helped decide the outcome....But in terms of the argument between which QB is better, I think those INTs are just a bump in the road.

The only thing Dilfer can accurately rank is scalp polish..

I don't agree with his assessment at all. I'm not a Roethlisberger fan but there is no doubt he is a better quarterback than Sanchez. As people have said Flacco, Schaub, Orton, and even Cassel are playing much better than Sanchez.

I really don't wanna hear that Rivers is better than Brady or Manning. The Chargers have benefited from a weak division for some time now, and they throw the ball all over the place in November and December just to end up losing in the playoffs. Sure, he's on their level, but to say that he's better is jumping the gun...by a lot. He has more to prove.

Id take Flacco and Ryan out of there for now and replace them with Brees and Roethlisberger. You cannot sit here and say as we sit here today that Flacco and Ryan as good as they have played are better at this point and time in their career then Roethlisberger or Brees because they simply arent...
