I remember seeing his interception return, and I thought it might have been a fluke since the ball came right to him. Then, he makes a much better play on the punt return. The thing is, he might not have gotten the opportunity here. I haven't seen Prince Miller at all, and they were similar prospects. So we don't really know that much, and Dallas has had terrible CB play among other things. We did have him though...

Couldn't really predict he'd start returning the ball the way he has of late. We had crazy CB depth when he was around as well.

McCann is bigger, stronger, and faster than Prince Miller. I didn't understand why we cut him to bring back Miller EXCEPT for 2 reasons. The first is that there wasn't room on the 53 man roster for him. Ozzie probably knew someone would claim him off our PS and decided to go with they guy who would most likely stick around. I guess. The 2nd was that Prince was with the team all through training camp and already new the playbook.

Biiiig Mistake... BIG MISTAKE.

Not really. There's no guarantee he'd have done anything here.

Good for McCann, lets see if he can keep his play at this level or is it just a good 2 weeks....he was given a chance and he is doing his best, hard to know what a player has or can do until he has been given the opportunity in a game.

I just dont see any young play makers on our squad. And there's no guarantee any of them ever will be. Most of our young guys seem to be just riding the lightning that is Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Our defense seems to be getting tired, we need guys like this to start adding some spark.

But speaking of this particular guy it was a head scratcher to me. He wasn't here during TC and Prince played well in the Preseason... all of a sudden he gets cut and we sign another undrafted guy. I think they should've had some resolve and stuck with their decision instead of flip flopping like they did.

Really? He gets a TD off a terrible throw/bad route and scores on a fluke punt return and now the Ravens need a guy like him?

It was a good play by McCann on that interception. I saw it on playbook a while ago about how Hakeen Nicks stutter steps when making a cut inside. McCann did his film study and saw Nicks doing that stutter step and jumped the route for a pick.

But the punt return did look a little fluky. The other team probably gave up when he saw the guy knock it down

It's nothing to do with him. I said the Ravens need young playmakers. Eventually our defense is going to be in the hands of the youth we have on the team and it is a grim prospect.

And fluke or no fluke the guy is fast as hell and MADE the plays. They weren't made for him.

Fair enough. I didn't know McCann had picked up that point of Nicks' game and made the play.

Still, two big plays isn't going to make me say the team should never have got rid of him. We have no idea what he may or may not have done when he was here.

McCann probably wouldn't have gotten playing time with us. The Cowboys are terrible in the secondary, so he went to a good place for an undrafted rookie.

The Ravens secondary players aren't exactly world beaters (save one), but he's a Cowboy now, so it is neither here nor there...

They had no quality CB depth, so McCann had a much better shot at playing time there. We don't have a roster spot for him or Prince Miller, who is on our practice squad. And they may have started giving him more opportunities once they were sitting at 1-7 and had fired the head coach. As an undrafted rookie, it's easier to work your way onto the field when the team has nothing to lose.

Not to revive a days-old thread, but it's important to consider that perhaps McCann looks good making these plays relative to the poor performance of the guys around him? Maybe he's able to shine because of the system in Dallas and he gets it more than the guys around him. Plus, McCann is too early in his development for his release to be considered a mistake. Even Bart Scott and Adalius Thomas were mediocre players in Baltimore at one point, trudging along on special teams and situational packages and never really taking over games like they later would.
