V. Young No Longer A Starter.

16 posts in this topic

Vince Young demoted to the No. 2 QB today after leaving the field early.

I also found this article on Yahoo and Im beginning to wonder how long he will stay in Tennessee.

The article basically explains how Young puts himself before the team and how much of an ego he has.

It also states that he threw half his jersey into the stands. Does anyone have a video of this?

I was debating someone on Twitter about this earlier tonight and his argument was that Vince Young wins games. My stance was, however, that although Young has a winning record as a starter, he has yet to carry his team the way that other quality starting QBs have. Even Joe Flacco, with his star-studded supporting cast over the years, has had to mature and become a more complete QB in order to utilize the weapons he's given. Young had the luxury of a great defense for a couple of years and has had great RB talent behind him, but he's rarely had games where he's truly shown the poise of a quality QB. More importantly, he hasn't produced on the field to the level of a starter.

My opponent argued that production is overrated and that wins are more important. While wins are definitely the most important stat, it is also telling when Young is split even in TD-to-INT ratio and has been benched more than once for poor performances. He argued that Young was benched because of bias from Jeff Fisher, but my counter was that Fisher must have the utmost patience for his players since he kept Albert Haynesworth on his team for so many years despite their colliding egos. Even more damning is the fact that Fisher has stubbornly kept Kerry Collins in and out of the QB rotation despite Collins' own inconsistencies.

Bottom line, we Ravens fans know bad QBs when we see them, and though Young isn't an entirely horrible QB, he certainly deserves to be benched for his Jekyll-and-Hyde act this season.

Gotta say I am disappointed about V. Young. I thought he matured and was to get his career back on track. Guess I was young.

I think we should trade for him.

Agreed. The "VY package" would own.

According to Charles Robinson on NFL Network, the catalyst for this move was not the injury or the uniform being thrown into the crowd, it was Young walking out during Fisher's speech. Former Longhorns teammate Michael Griffin tried to get him to come back and Fisher yelled and said, "You don't leave your teammates like that." Young snapped back and yelled, "I'm not walking out on my teammates, I'm walking out on you!"

Honestly, as much as Jeff Fisher deservedly gets a lot of crap for stringing together some stagant performances in coaching the Titans, he also knows what he's doing, hence why he's been employed for so long. You don't disrespect your head coach in front of your teammates, even if you're Ray Lewis or Peyton Manning. And it's not like this is a joke of a head coach; Fisher's credentials speak for themselves, even without a championship to show for it. Had this been Brad Childress, I might understand Young's actions, but Fisher is far from a lame-duck coach like Childress.

Let's add insult to injury. Or better yet injury to insult in V Young's case.

He was placed on season ending IR due to the ligament tear in his thumb. Looks like this could be the end of Vince Young in Tennessee.

Doesn`t Huff play for the Raiders, it was Griffin that tried to get him to come back to the locker room.

My bad, you're right, it was Griffin, not Huff; can't blame me for mixing the two up, though, Huff hasn't been doing a whole lot with his career since being drafted 7th overall. ;)

Guess Fisher won't have to argue with Bud Adams over Vince now.

Adams said "Fisher and Young have to work out their differences." Wish the old man would just realize that Young is a bust and that his team isn't going to go anywhere as long as he insists that Young is the guy.

What a bust...

The Texans were so dumb to pass on him and Reggie Bush!

I remember how EVERYONE was saying that the Texans should have drafted him after Young had that OT run to beat them his rookie year.

I remember that. Some say they were dumb to pass up Matt Leinhart as well. Mario Williams seems to be the best pick in that early round. Charlie Casserly was a pretty darn good GM. I think he helped make that pick but left the team shortly after the draft.

I do recall that, funny how things work out. 2006 was so long ago.

True, that draft had some early stinkers but some great players, too. So glad we moved up to grab Haloti, Ozzie knew what he was doing that day.
