Joe And Mase Scuffle?

51 posts in this topic

Does anyone have any info on the apparent Joe and Mason scuffle on the sideline? I'm just hearing of this from a post game radio show.

I didn't see anything but I'm willing to bet this is overblown. And even if it were true, it was probably quickly squashed since they're friendly off the field.

Joe didn't fall down on routes or drop any balls. Where did you hear that?

Didn't hear about that but their probably making something out of nothing.Joe and Derrick get along really well for this to be true.

Maybe he was just trying to fire Joe up.

I would be suprised. Mason and Joe always had a great working relationship. Yeah Mason may get fired up but I dont see Joe and Mason relationship on bad terms.

Hey, some tension on the sidelines just shows that there is passion for the game. As long as it serves to improve play on the field than it's simply the team holding each other accountable.

Something probably happened, something notable probably did not happen. Joe would NOT get in Mason's face for dropping a ball just because Mason is consistent and Mason is hard enough on himself to rebound. The only thing I could see happening is Flacco got so used to receivers not getting open that he missed Mason being open on a play. And Mason being a receiver saying that, probably was not open, but just had confidence in himself to make a play.
Side note: darn pats. always find a way to win

there's no question this happened....Where is the media on this?

Joe Duffy, how bout a report on this?

Numerous callers to talk radio after the game claimed they were at the game in NC and saw Mason being restrained twice from going after Flacco, took 3/4 teammates to settle Mason down.

Isn't this kinda of big news when two players have to be restrained from each other during a game?

I would love to know what caused this scrap between Joe Cool and the hot head.

Joe Duffy?

And I doubt that fans, who were in NC earlier in the day, would drive to Baltimore in time to catch the sports radio cycle.

Until I see someone reputable or affiliated with the Ravens report the facts, I'll be skeptical.

Sorry, I meant Mike Duffy.

I agree, I would like to see something official from the Ravens. I heard it from a guy who claims he went to the game and was staying with a relative in Carolina. He went on the internet after the game looking for media coverage of the incident he claims he and many others witnessed.

Maybe Harbs can be asked about it at his media conference Monday

Maybe? But, with cameras everywhere, you would think they would catch it. Crazier things have been overlooked, though. I just doubt that Mason would go ballistic, as described, especially in a game where he and Flacco both played fairly well.

Oh well, we'll find out soon enough.

Guys are getting fired up. For the most part, with the exception of this game, they've responded with scoring drives. Joe didn't back down to a fiery personality like Mason. That's good. I like that aggression. It would've been a bigger cause of concern if Joe merely walked away from Mase, similar to McNabb brushing off T.O. in Philly.

I'm glad we have a vocal group on the offense to spark those offensive scores. We've been lacking that passion on the offensive sides since the Ravens have been in existence, and it's been critical to the success of the team.

Side note: I'm glad our players don't interact with each other in the manner of Ray Edwards and Chris Cook. Did you guys see them jawing back and forth? If you see the extended clip you can clearly make out the dialogue and it's quite the scene.

Yeah, I was trying to wait for the confirmation source before adding to "gossip." But if this did happen - I like it! This actually IS FLACCO'S TEAM. They are built for him to be successful and he has to have at least EQUAL respect with the players.

This is not the same kind of situation as McNabb and TO. TO was a cancer to every team he has ever played for because of his selfishness. Mase is just a fiery personality. Flacco did right to hold his position if he felt confident in what he was doing.

this is from a well known person on another Ravens board that went to the game.
There was absolutely a physical confrontation between Flacco and Mason after the 3rd down incompletion before Cundiff's kick to make it 23-13.

Flacco was walking towards the sideline and Mason accosted him. It looked to me like Mason got into Flacco's face and Flacco responded by grabbing Mason.

It escalated as they made it off the field.

After it was over most of the team gathered around and it looked like someone was in the middle sending a message.

It wasn't Harbaugh.
This incident is being discussed in other forums as well.

The Baltimore Sun and RavensInsider, so I have to assume that something happened. If I don't get video of this incident I shall have to make a few rounds to the crying thread lol.

If anybody has ever been a leader on a sports team, or a leader of any group of people really, you'll understand this is pretty natural. People act as if they now are going to have some sort of turmoil between them and that probably couldn't be further from the truth. Truth is that these guys both know each other and expect nothing less but the best from each other and when that doesn't happen I'm sure they'll let each other know. That being said, I'm also sure that both of them are bright enough to understand that it was the heat of the moment and that they are still team mates who need to work together to achieve the ultimate goal.

Mason has no reason to be angry at Joe. He fell down on one route and dropped a perfectly thrown slant that would have gone for big yardage. This is a non-story.

I was at the game sitting across from the Ravens' sideline and recall seeing nothing like a scuffle. But in all fairness, I had been drinking quite a bit.

I would have to agree with the sentiments being echoed on here. Even if it did happen, this is two men who have a great relationship as players. It was probably a "heat of the moment" type thing and the two are over it I can assure you.

The comments section is entertaining as always. Here's a nugget I enjoyed:

With players spitting on their opponents and team mates fighting with each other in the middle of games, this team is out of control.

This one was better
These are the times that define a headcoach. Bill Belichick got rid of Randy Moss after him and Brady exchanged words in the lockeroom.

What is Harbaugh going to do about this one. My suggestion is to deactivate Mason for the rest of the season and set an example. Stick up for your QB. He is the face of your franchise. We don't need a T.O in Baltimore. Mason is a diva and a primmadonna. Maybe if he was open they'd get the ball to him more.

Cut him!
How do these people get access to a computer? That post makes me sick. Derrick Mason has been tremendous for this franchise through the good years and the bad ones. In 2005, he was our offense. By himself. Dang. I could go on and on because I really have a lot of respect and admiration for Mason but it's pointless. That person is, more than likely, a bored/depressed Steelers fan.
