A New Low For Browns Fans...

53 posts in this topic

I saw this last night and and went to my favorite Browns site and this butt head started a thread condoning the act and 2 or 3 actually agreed with the fool but a majority condemned the act and said had they seen it they would have intervened. And as mean and combative as some of those fans are on that site, I believe they would have helped the kid out.

I've been to Browns Stadium and, assuming you're not going to be an arrogant jerk, you should be just fine. Lucky for you the game is so late in the year and the day after Christmas. All that chill and holiday contentment should keep the Browns' fans as happy as they can be.

I was three-four rows from the field and, honestly, I heard more insults hurled at the Browns' players than the Ravens. You wouldn't believe the things they said to their punter, it was almost upsetting because he could actually hear them.

Ya I mean I wont be a dbag by any measure, I just wanna know if wearing my Lewis jersey and cheering for the Ravens will get bad stuff thrown my way or my GFs and bros way.

Nope, as long as you aren't a jerk and don't taunt them, they'll be mild towards you. You'll probably see a bad example of a Ravens fan there and they will make themselves a target - that's what happened in a section over from me, at least, haha.

Ravens fans have a harder time of it at Browns stadium because of the move, my brother was there 2 years ago and says he will not be visiting Cleveland any time soon.
That being said one of the coolest fans I have met on the road were Browns fans. The had a huge camper on I-70 and we were getting gas outside of Frederick and so were we, and my kids toured their RV, we actually gave them an old map book and told them where not to go in the city. We actually had a beer with them at tailgate and the owner of the RV was Kosar's center in high school.

There was an Atlanta fan or two I would've "tackled" after the Thursday night game, but none of them were kids.

Seriously though, those guys need to learn how to win with dignity. They were jawing like they won the Super Bowl, despite the fact that Roddy White pushed Josh Wilson over for the game winning score.

The Jets offered to host the kid and his family in a suite and give them autographed items... but they declined?! What?

I think with good reason. To avoid being media ****s and getting such star treatment and not deserving it or earning it.

Nnnnnnnnnnope! I think that's pretty typical for a Browns fan. All they do is tackle children. They live for it. I used to live in Cleveland, and, I'll admit it... when I see a kid walking around... I still get this small urge to tackle the little guy. I've got it down to a minor twitch now, though, so I'm pretty much adjusted to being in public by now.

Pretty disgusting act by a drunk idiot is my initial take. I'm not defending what happened at all but unfortunately things like this are what can happen when you have alcohol around thousands of people at a time. Colin Cowherd (who is "meh" at best..) did do something I found slightly interesting.. I don't agree with his wording and his entire reasoning but he basically said losers hang out with other losers and that if one of this guy's "loser friends" turns him in that he'll personally write the guy a check and pay for his season ticket next year.

Cleveland's done a pretty good job this year too with in-stadium crap and regulating fan behavior; supposedly they've kicked out a lot of fans this year for stuff that they didn't in the past because it was getting ridiculous.

As far as what some mentioned regarding visiting stadiums and all.. I've personally never really had any problems going to M&T; always been around cool people. You get the drunk idiots who want to heckle and sometimes go a bit far but honestly it doesn't really bother me.. if that's what they need to do to justify their time there then so be it. All in all met some really awesome fans.

Also as far as getting to the bottom of it a couple of the Cleveland blogs I read are pretty much on it.. this one especially; 2nd post down.

Wow, I'm actually siding with the anonymous Browns fans on this one. Their stories seem a lot more reasonable than the Jets fans'. A stumble by a drunk fan, an overreaction by the parents, a national story. Stupid. And a waste of our time.

I hope that is the case personally and that a Browns fan didn't intently do something to a kid. Some things just seem a bit out of place with this story and as of now there's no telling what the truth is but it seems odd to me that the parents would write the letter and then basically say they don't want this to turn into something bigger.

Plus to add onto that as mentioned in another article I find it hard to believe that is this guy purposely tackled a kid that other fans would just ignore it. I obviously do not like the Steelers or Ravens as a team because I'm a die-hard Browns fan but I KNOW for a fact that if something like this happened in one of those stadiums fans would not ignore it if there was intent.. if that guy meant to tackle that kid we as fans would have been all over that idiot.

Agree with both points. The mother took the time to write in a letter and talk to the local news just to back down? And Browns' fans are not bad people, they recognize injustice when they see it - believe me :P

If you look at the "injuries" to the kid, in this story, you find yourself questioning it even further. (LINK) Frankly, I've lost patience for all of these pseudo-stories.

Wasn't it only a month ago that a child's father died while attending their first Patriots game together? That's a real tragedy, not a fall in a parking lot.

Apparently a witness of the event said that the guy was drunk and stumbled and "fell" on the kid. Never "tackled". The onlookers were not reacting to a person that just tackled a kid, rather two people that injured themselves.

The guy that supposedly "tackled" the kid was in apparent pain. If anything this guy is guilty of being a drunken dope from the sounds of it.
The boy went to the game at Cleveland Browns Stadium in a Jets jersey with his father, who was born in New York. Much to the chagrin of the local crowd, the Jets rallied for a 26-20 overtime victory. The boy's mother, identified only as Danielle by ABC affiliate WEWS because she didn't want to reveal her last name, said the fans in the stadium were great, but things got out of control outside after the game.

"Calling him a bad word, to my husband and to my son, throwing food at them," she said, according to WEWS.

When the family reached the parking lot, the situation got uglier.

"As [my husband] was walking, holding my son's hand, a guy from behind tackled him. A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad's hand. He was on the ground crying," Danielle said, according to the station.

The boy was left with a scraped and bruised ankle. The mother said her husband didn't call police, opting instead to quickly get in the car and leave. But the mother wrote a letter to The Plain Dealer in Cleveland detailing what happened.
As far as I can tell, one of these two situations was the real one:

Version 1:
It was a calm Sunday like any other. Family and friends gathered to embrace the sunshine of the day. The local fans cheered on their team in an exciting game that ended in a home loss.

"Oh well", the father of the boy said as they headed back to Church. "Jesus loves every one of us". They smiled.

But a Browns fan didn't feel the same way. Having gambled away his wife and kids by the loss, the Browns fan crept angrily from the shadows to taunt the family. He tossed expired meats at them, and accompanied it with a hate speech against middle-income Christian families.

As the father and son sung Christmas carols, the man struck. In a fit of anger,he managed to strike down the child, knocking his bible to the ground. The father and son were no more. Leaving only the question, "Why?"

Why indeed, small child? Why? Bruised and beaten, the boy was left to wonder if he could ever fulfill his dreams or maybe, if possible, be happy again.

His final thoughts were conveyed in a will which the mother mailed to Hope and Faith Weekly.

I feel sorry for the kid. Not because he was "tackled", but because his mother made a national story out of an accident.

I'm pretty sure embarassment is worse than a grazed ankle.

Drunks at the stadium are a menace to all. You will be walking and someone will just randomly stop and its easy to plow into them, or they have to text, look for the bathroom or their friends, or not see the curb and fall off it. I stay with my 'baby' who plays HS nose tackle and is 3 inches taller then me now lol

Hey, you can check the early posts on this thread. This was my take on this from the start. It just didn't add up at all. I mean, right or wrong, you intentionally tackle my 8 yr old and I'm going ballistic on your butt. I'm definitely calling the cops. And, let's face it, he wouldn't even have had to make a phone call, just flag one of the uniforms down that are always around after a game. Have no idea what this Mom figured to gain from all this. Or, could be Dad (which I also mentioned earlier) just didn't want to get into trouble so embellished the events somewhat.

I don't think it was a good idea for her to mention the event on Twitter. Let the authorities handle instances of public disorder.
