It is pretty bad. But I have a feeling we are missing a part of the story. A drunk grown man just doesn't "tackle" a 8 yo in an opposing teams jersey.

If he does, he has some real issues.

Yeah, PuRock, there may be more to the story than what we know of it, however, if this incident is of a grown man "tackling" an 8-year-old, then the grown man seriously needs counseling.

I'm hoping brownsfan can get us some better info. I agree that this doesn't add up. I find it hard to believe a grown man would do this unprovoked or without some other extenuating circumstance.

I was a little skeptical at first because of how it wasn't reported immediately, but if this is true, then that's a shame. I still won't let this affect my judgment of the team or the majority of the fanbase, though; the Browns have earned my respect this season.

This is horrible but really, just be glad that the general fanbase in NFL and american sports generally are a class-act. I know you might not agree but as an european i can tell you that you would be shocked if you experienced fan cultures from europe or other parts of the world. This is headlines in the US but something like this happens all the time in soccer espicially. Just far worse for the most part.

My friend's unintentionally been in a middle of a soccer riot in Europe. Not fun stuff.

If the "8 year-old boy" they're referring to is Mark Sanchez or Woody Johnson, then I have no problem with this..

Honestly, though, I doubt a man actually "tackled" an 8 year-old boy. There may have been an accident, a drunk fan stumbling into the kid or falling on him but I seriously doubt the story occurred as described. That may be cynical of me but this story seems, shall I say, embellished.

From the article...
"My husband asked him, 'Did you have a good time?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Would you want to go back sometime?' And he said, 'No, I don't like Browns Stadium.' Who could blame him?" the boy's mother said.
Burn!

I didn't have any issues with the Browns stadium when I went. Of course, we lost that game (2005), but they were generally decent. I was about 14-15 at the time and didn't get tackled.

This is a good point.

If the man intentionally tackled an 8 year old, that's pretty pathetic of him but I wouldn't hold it against Browns fans as a whole and I'm not going to think less of the organization, unless it's all part of one big massive conspiracy in which the Browns had it out for this 8 year old, but that's unlikely.

I'm sure John Wayne Gacy was a Bears fan anyway.

I've always found Browns' fans to be a respectful lot. I think there is more to this story than we are being led to believe. I could surmise just from the article that "perhaps" Dad had a word or two or more if there were insults and food being thrown as said. Then "perhaps" there was a scuffle and the drunk fan fell into the boy. Either way, don't know why people can't go to the game, enjoy a drink or two without winding up fall down drunk and make idiots of themselves. Shame regardless but I doubt it happened quite this way.

He doesn't represent all Browns fans, and the good ones need to take this tool out back and "deal with him" there.

I agree with you, Warden. One guy doesn't represent an entire group or in this case, fanbase. People seem to believe that all fanbases are different and have their own characteristics, but those are just generalizations.

You realize there is evidence to debate us both on that stance however regarding:
Eagles fans
Raiders fans
Jets fans
and the intelligence of Patriot fans. haha

Never done it.

My buddy has though, and he said it was fine. I was shocked.

How are Ravens fans towards opposing fans?

Pretty good. If you are down low, you'd get by without much peep. Up top you might get some heckling.

Usually the heckling only comes out when we are crushing. But that's about all you can expect. But drunkards can sometimes swing the curve.

Ive been to one game in Baltimore against the Colts and there was a couple Colts fans in my section, Ravens fans jokingly gave him cat calls and the guy didnt take it too seriously.

My GFs oldest brother is an Eagles fan and he went to a Giants/Eagles game and a young couple had mustard and ketchup squirted on them. When the couple complained to a security guard he did nothing to help them and the couple ended up leaving. Pretty ruthless.

I've been heckled at Giants Stadium (in a friendly way) and threatened (in a not so friendly way) there as well. Stood up for a Ravens Fan at Heinz and lambasted another also at Heinz. I think his friends wanted me to throw him off the upper deck though. He was pretty mouthy.

I don't think it's that big of a deal as people are making it. I mean yes if the guy did tackle him than ok fine. Though this did occur AFTER the game. Now anyone knows how crowded it is leaving M & T Bank Stadium and you are bound to bump into people leaving the stadium, I mean it's pretty much like a bunch of Running backs looking for holes. I mean if your trying to get to the Light Rail after a game at M & T Bank, you are going to run into people by accident and when there is a hole where you can get up further and head you take it and go! I think we are making too much of it when I'm sure after ANY NFL game there is that chance to run into people and bump into someone leaving the stadium.

JO does bring up a good point; it's only one side of the story. Maybe it was carelessness/drunkeness. Witnesses will hopefully come forward and comment.

Ultimately I think the article says less about Browns fans and more about the possible consiquneces of excessive alcohol consumption.

I've been to Browns Stadium and, assuming you're not going to be an arrogant jerk, you should be just fine. Lucky for you the game is so late in the year and the day after Christmas. All that chill and holiday contentment should keep the Browns' fans as happy as they can be.

I was three-four rows from the field and, honestly, I heard more insults hurled at the Browns' players than the Ravens. You wouldn't believe the things they said to their punter, it was almost upsetting because he could actually hear them.
