Why? It was Jeff Reed who's blown games for us. How many FG's did he miss in our match up?

Suisham is no stranger to blown games either.

That was speculation by the media and fans (including myself).

Perhaps, but there is no indication of a crappy attitude like Reed has; his accuracy is up there (certainly better than Reed's thus far in 2010) and he's kicked in/worked out in Heinz Field.

The great Gary Anderson blew the biggest game of all for the Vikings. It happens. But Reed has cost us more games lately than Suisham has cost in his career.

Well Shaun Suisham missed two in Dallas last year in a favorable atmoshpere for kicking FGs (unlike the open end of Heinz Field). One of those was in the clutch. He also missed a 23 yarder last year with a chance to put the Saints Redskins game out of reach. He also missed two FGs in the Metrodome in the playoffs last year. True those were both 49 yarders which isn't a chip shot, but in a dome...

And you could argue that was last year not this year. But the fact is, the guy hasn't even played for anyone all season partly because no one trusts him. Who knows, maybe he's a better option than Reed. But maybe not, I guess we'll find out.

I'm sorry but after what we went through last year I just can't help but laugh see this happening with a division rival, especially The Steelers.

Though I do agree that Reed was not the Kicker he used to be but it will be interesting to see if the Steelers find a new Franchise Kicker next year in the draft and start with a younger kicker or get a Veteran Kicker.

He's still above 81%. Reed was at around 66%. Bottom line is, Suisham is an upgrade of attitude, non-complacency and reliability.

Yeah, but Reed would roll Suisham in quarters, flip cup or beer pong!

Unless he's improved his game while being out for 10 wks. I just hope the acquisition of this new guy is not a disaster...

While I was all for getting rid of Reed it was only if the Steelers could find an adaquete replacement for him and I do not consider that to be Shaun Suisham. Suisham as mentioned on here earlier in this thread missed a 23 yard FG for the Redskins when he had a chance to end the Saints undefeated season last year in what is known now as "The Choke". He was cut I believe a day after by the Skins. Kicking if anything is more mental then it is physical and that's why I dont know if Suisham is mentally tough enough to come in here and kick a game winning 40-45 yard FG in the playoffs or in December in a game that could decide the division or a playoff spot. He has no track record of doing any of these things. That's why I would have prefered the Steelers sign Matt Stover over Suisham. Stover has a proven track record, and has hit big FG's throughout his career in the playoffs and has the mental toughness to come in with the game on the line and hit a game winning FG in a big game from any length of distance.

So while I dont mind Reed being cut the Steelers need to keep an eye on Suisham and do it immediately. Because if he is shanking kicks this week against Oakland or next week in Buffalo then the Steelers are going to have a serious serious problem on their hands. They had better keep Stover's name and number handy because it's not a mortal lock that Suisham is going to come in here and make big kicks that are going to help this Steelers team win games. If Suisham ****s the bed here right from the start, the Steelers need to get in contact with a guy like Matt Stover and get him in here to kick for them the rest of the year. I am sure Stover would jump at the opportunity to play for a team like the Steelers who he knows very well and knows Heinz Field if he is given the opportunity to do so...

In the past weeks, the Steelers, Patriots and Bengals have signed FA kickers. None of those kickers were Matt Stover. That ought to tell you something. At this stage of his remarkable career, he'd be better suited for a domed team.

The knock on Stover is he can't hit from over 40 consistently anymore. That's why the ravens went with Hauska over him last year. Hauska could kick far, just not straight.

I agree with Warden that if Stover were to come back it would be best if he played in a dome with a controlled environment. Kicking outside in the cold only shortens reasonable field goal distances for most kickers.

James Harrison doesn't understand a lot of things that are blatantly obvious to the rest of us..
Meanwhile, the sudden termination of Reed has ruffled some feathers in the locker room. Henderson said that linebacker James Harrison and other players “flooded” Reed with phone calls, and that many of his teammates “could not understand” the decision to dump the man who had kicked for the Steelers since 2002.
LINK. Sounds like a lot of the Steelers are pretty upset by the move but they had to have seen it coming. Reed wore out his welcome with the FO with his poor performance and his shoddy attitude.

I wouldn't call it so "obvious" as fans too and Steelers reporters are split as well.

I mean a kicking percentage below 70, no kicks made in the 40-49 yard range? He's fallen off from what he once was.
