Purple Punishment

Michael Vick

Well well well. It seems that this guy is playing like a man on fire. I remember saying that he would possibly make MVP after his GB game and his first start. People wanted to say hey he cant read defenses, he has zero accuracy etc. etc. I wonder what those people are saying now??

Heres my discussion topic. If Mike Vick continues this elevated play throughout the entire season and gets the Eagles to the playoffs and maybe the Super Bowl, what would his contract look like?

Im thinking it would have to be up there with Brady and Manning numbers. He has pinpoint accuracy with that cannon on his arm now. He can still run lightning fast and he can keep plays alive. Mike Vick is becoming the player Atlanta thought he could be, just took some time and leadership from McNabb

Though Vick has played well this season, I think the true litmus test is whether he can sustain it into next season. Remember, his game has been elevated now that he's learned to become a better pocket passer; defenses had previously only accounted for his legs but forgot about his arms. Honestly, it's only a matter of time before defenses catch up to his game.

That said, I think he'll get a decent contract from the Eagles, but not on the level of a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. I'm guessing he'll get a $40-50 million deal, but not sure how much of it would be guaranteed. Super Bowl or no Super Bowl, the man is just entering his thirties and will likely experience a physical decline given both his age and that porous offensive line, not to mention his increased exposure to injury with his propensity for scrambling.

All I have to say is that Vick played friggin' awesome last night! He had a great game as a QB AND as a RB. 80 yards rushing and 2 TDs is a good game for a RB. Over 300 yards passing, 4 TDs and no interceptions is a great game as a QB. I was definitely "wowed" by last night's game.

The Eagles should make sure to put an injury clause in the contract since Vick has played 16 games only one season. But yeah he's in for a real big pay day if he continues this level of play up the rest of the season. That offense is so scary..even in the run game.

Err, this was one game versus the Redskins. I think people are getting away ahead of themselves with Vick here.

This is much more than one game.....his entire season is insane thus far.

Just look at the scoreboard - Vick is a gamechanger. He comes out playing football and 60 minutes later it's like he just played basketball.

Not really. Before the Redskins game Vick's main accomplishment was that he hasn't thrown an interception in the 5 games he had played. That's quite a feat but it's not really insanely good. Before the Redskins game he hadn't thrown for 300 yards. Before the Redskins game the only time he even threw for 3 touchdowns as against a bad Jacksonville team. Also, in the first 5 games he had 2 rushing touchdowns. He matched that against the Redskins.

So which is more likely, Michael Vick suddenly became a football god (lol), or the Redskins defense had a horrible night? I'm going to go with the Redskins unless Vick can do the same thing against a Giants defense the following week.

In the 6 games he's played in this year, he has 11 TDs, thrown for over 1,350 yards, ZERO picks and has ran for 340 yards and 4 TDs.....as well as having a QB rating higher than its ever been for him... Last nights game was the best of a great season for him, but certainly not the only showing.

Well I meant more along the lines of trading the guy who was supposed to be a better fit in their "west coast" offense. Trade the starter (McNabb), then trade the guy who was the successor(Kolb) lol. I think thats kinda ironic.

Won't be surprised to see someone give him a big contract, he deserves to get paid the way he is playing. I would try to get an extension from Philly if I was him because they have the weapons, but then what happens to Kolb?

Kolb will be traded and there will be big interest from teams on him. At the least, Philly was franchise Vick for a year or two, if not sign him long term.

I honestly believe he'll get a 5 year, 80-100m deal. The Eagles will practically give him whatever he wants if he continues on this streak.

Vick is basically playing unstoppable and to say some defenses are going to key in on him soon is a stretch considering no one has even been able to log an INT on him. You blitz him he has the chance to beat you with his legs and arm, you spy him he takes you down with his arm, and if you play man he is going to cause havoc with his legs.

Oh ya forgot about zone, you play zone he beats you deep. Just look at last night.

That's a little misleading considering 4 of those touchdowns came last night, as did half the rushing touchdowns. Like I said, he had a monster game but people are ready to adorn him as MVP and the best QB in the NFL right now. I'm not based on a few good performances and one monster performance against the Redskins.

He was easily the MVP before he went down with the rib injury. You're kind of making it sound like he isn't being consistent, because out of QB's he was playing the best at his position when he went down.

They were going to sign him after this season regardless if he played the way he did last night.

They only signed him to a 2 year deal when they first got him.
