Who Do You Want To See Returning Punts?

70 posts in this topic

With the Ravens ranking 30th in the league with a 6.0 punt return average and the longest punt return of the year being 20 yards(5th lowest in the league), I was wondering who people want to see returning punts.

Personally, I want to see Stallworth do it. He's only returned 18 punts in his career but the speed is there(as we saw against the Falcons) and he's strong enough to shake off tackles too.

At first, I was calling for more Lardarius Webb. After his poor ball-handling on that fumbled return against the Falcons, I'm starting to lean towards Stallworth again. Stallworth can be Josh Cribbs-Lite -- basically, an all-purpose playmaker good for one or two big plays a game but won't be an every-down player.

Or david reed but id feel more comfortable with stallworth peotecting the ball than reed
Reed isn't a punt returner. I think he showed some promise on the first return he took out.

Id take anybody over carr... I dont think we have tge luxury of choosing who is or isnt a returner especially when its desperate enough that our 36 year old banged up receiver is offering to help.

I guess. But Reed would still have to take reps returning punts and I haven't read a single report about that happening.

stallworth...I don't know what their waiting on to try him out. He's already practiced return punts.I don't want to see Ed Reed do it anymore. If your not going to let Mason do it,why would you pick Ed.That decision doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed. I really hope the coaches give Stallworth a shot against the Panthers. Ball security was a problem for Webb returning punts as a rookie in pre-season and Ed is obviously banged up.

I cringe whenever I see Ed Reed or Webb back there returning for punts. Both of are coming off major injuries and I'd hate to see them get potentially hurt when their more so needed at their primary positions. I guess at this point Zbikowski wouldn't be a bad choice since he was somewhat of an alright returner when he did it earlier in the season. Stallworth would be a good choice as well if he isn't going to get a ton of looks in the passing game and wants to contribute elsewhere.

Zibby didn't do well at all lol. And coming back from an injury he would probably not be able to go right back to returning once he is back. Stallworth has shown great speed. Webb did fine on his last return till he fumbled. That really wasn't much his fault. Only thing he could have done better was use two hands, but let's face it guys just won't do that unless they are charging into a guy.

Also maybe David Reed? And honestly I would like to see Parmele back on kick returns. He didn't do bad he just couldn't provide that spark, but no one has yet.

Reed had one of the longer kick returns of the season on the first kick he brought out against the Falcons. And while him bringing the ball out near the end of the game was a a bad decision, at least he showed some breakaway speed, unlike Parmele.

Anyone but Zibby.

I'm wondering if the returners are the real problem. They've tried so many different that players that I'm inclined to think the blockers might be the real issue... or something.

The only bad thing about Stallworth returning punts is that he seems to get banged up easily. On the other hand, we have so many WR options right now that he's only gonna be on the field for a limited amount of plays anyways, and we might as well give him a shot to contribute elsewhere. As long as he takes care of the football then he can't be any worse than what we've already seen this year...

Exactly (to the second part). I don't think it's the return guy's issue either.

Also I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing Zibikowski back there again. He's not a starter so it won't hurt too much if he is injured again (unlike Ed Reed, Webb, Mason and even Carr) and he protects the football. With our suspect special teams blocking anything you get past not fumbling is a bonus.

That said, I like the Stallworth option too.

We really don't have any answers at PR. Zibby is OK with me simply b/c he hasn't turned the ball over. It was good to hear Mase's petitioning for some PRs - I wish more guys were like that. I know its completely different, but I'd like to see SOMEBODY step up and get trained in PRs (*cough* David Reed *cough*).

If Zibby's heel is better I guess I'd like to see him back there, so he can also contribute on D.

I do not know but I would like for the Ravens to pick a guy and stop switching the punt returner every punt!

I'd like to see me returning punts. I really think I'd look good with a million or two in my pocket and a Superbowl ring. But other than me, I thought Stallworth did KRs, not PRs (correct me if I'm wrong). I think Ed Reed is a fine option. I really don't see Ed getting injured on special teams. He's a tough guy.

Stallworth, those reverses showed he still has some speed and can read his blocks.
Stallworth, absolutely. Webb ruined his chance with that crucial fumble.

Plus, it just looks cooler when a guy with dreads is speeding by people

It has less to do with speed more to do with reading the field, having composure, and knowing which route to run with blocking scheme ahead of him. Best example would be golden tate in NE patriots. the time he receives the bal, he READs the field, and know how to execute on field. our receivers just try to run with straight athleticism, running as fast as possible forward blindly, or in zibbys case, run sideways then read the field and get sacked in 10yard or near end zone.
