This question was discussed a bit on 1057 last night but if Tony Pike and Mike Goodson end up starting Carolina's backfield, how many points would the Panthers have to score for us to start panicking about this defense?
We could shut them out and people would still "panic". Greg Mattison would still stink, Kelly Gregg would still be terrible, Dawan Landry would still be a bum, Terrell Suggs (if he doesn't post 2 sacks) is overpaid. Same old, same old.

Hmmmmm. I know it shouldn't happen, but I have a feeling in my gut that the Panthers are going to do something very right on Offense and make some noise against our D.

It's so hard to say, but I wouldn't say points as the success rather as the ability to move the ball (with or without points). If Tony Pike comes out on fire, that fire better continue into the next few games for him for our sake.

The offense total yardage needs to be under 275 yards (200 Passing yards, 75 rushing yards). Anything over that is worrisome.

Agreed on all counts. Is too much to ask for a defensive touchdown as well? There hasn't been on all season.
Unless Ed scores I doubt itll happen for the rest of the year.

No more than 10-13 points or I will be very worried.... unless they score on a pick-6 or something to that effect.

You have any fan insights on when J-Stew will be able to play? Has he been ruled out for the Ravens game?
Just heard D-Will went to IR.
Stewie hasn't practiced all week. Fox is only saying he's "day to day" so - you're guess is as good as mine. I doubt he'll be in the Ravens game but Fox has until Sunday morning, I believe, to make the final decision on that.

They better be held to single digit points, barring a big defensive play by Caorlina. They are one of the worst (maybe the worst) passing team in the league. Their two best RB arent playing. The only threat they have left offensively is Steve Smith, and given their QB situation, other teams have had little trouble shutting him down. Anything more than a few FG is inexcusable.Yardage-wise, I want to see under 150 yards passing and 80 yards rushing.

Unfortuately for me, with Carolina's offensive woes this year, I believe you'll get your defensive TD this Sunday and probably, finally, the win over the Panthers in regular season.

However, I have to say "Go PANTHERS!"

Exactly. The game could be 70 to 0 and people will still find something to freak out about.

I think the Ravens defense is in a catch 22 this week. It's a lose lose situation. If the Ravens go out and just beat the Panthers, but allow Pike to throw a TD or 2, people will be asking what's wrong with the defense. The Ravens won't win the Superbowl with this defense.

On the other hand, if the Ravens come out and dominate the Panthers, hold them to less then 180 yards of total offense, 5 turnovers, and 6 sacks, it won't matter because happened against the poor Carolina Panthers.

The Ravens have played some of the best teams in the NFL this season all on the road and lost 3 of those road games by a combined 13 points. No matter how some people perceive them, the Ravens have done what elite teams need to do. Win all your home game, beat the teams you are suppose to, split your road games, and be competitive against other elite teams.

The Panthers fall into the category of a team we are suppose to beat and as long as the Ravens play well and do that, they're fine.

I'ma have to disagree with you on that last part. Anytime our defense dominates our opponents, it's a good thing. I don't care who it is. Dominating a team just. feels. good. man.

Just watch, if our defense has a game like you just mentioned, with the 5-turnovers/6-sacks, the media will say that we're back to our old form. And there will be naysayers, and people writing us off because it was JUST the Panthers.

But, if we have an amazing game, don't let the media or anyone else kill your buzz. They're prolly rooting for the Black & Gold anyways. :)

Every game should matter because each and every win is a step closer to winning division. Even if most of us believe that the Ravens will dominate, this game still matters.

The interesting thing is noticing peoples' reactions to our evolution as a team. It's becomg pretty apparent that this Ravens team is becoming more balanced than in the past. Our offense is solidifying, Flacco is having terrific days and we have a variety of formidable RBs and WRs. Our defense is struggling a little: there are plusses, but we cannot even be compared to the defense from the 2000 Superbowl team. I feel like because of our origins as a defensive team people are not as excited about our offense as they should be. Yes, our team is best when the defense and offense are operating at 100% but the weakening of our defense seems to be demoralizing fans more than the strengthening of our offense is exciting them. It's an interesting prospect.

Oh you don't have to worry about the media killing my buzz, because i know football and choose to believe in what I see instead of stats and numbers.

IMO the Ravens defense hasn't been the same dominate defense of old, but we don't need to be. We're still top 5-10 and that's good enough.

All you're hearing now is about how the Ravens defense isn't dominate anyone, but you can't go a week without hearing how great the Jets and Steelers defense are. However the Ravens are playing at the same level as those teams if not better, probably with less overall talent in the secondary(atleast with the Jets). The Ravens have had 2 poor defensive performances this year. One bad pass defensive game and one poor run defensive game.

Peyton Hillis torched us and Fitzpatrick got us, other then that the Ravens have played well all season. As good as Matt Ryan seemed to play against us, he had 183 passing yards and 13 points going into the 4th quarter of that game, 6 of those points came on short fields because of turnovers. The Ravens allowed 2 fourth quarter TDs and both came after having the Falcons seemingly stopped on 3rd down before questionable penalties(Face mask on Suggs, PI on Gooden) allowed the drive to continue.

So i for one don't think the Ravens defense will struggle one bit in this game. The media and most fans won't say the defense is back if we have a dominate performance imo, because most people haven't paid attention to our defense all year. They just looked at final stats and based their opinions and judgments off of that. The it thing to say about our defense was that the secondary would be the weak link and now that we've given up a few yards over the last few games, that's what people are jumping on.

I didn't say the game wouldn't matter, the overall performance of the defense wouldn't matter, because it would be viewed as something that was supposed to happen anyway.

I think Oakland has a shot at taking down the Steelers, especially if they play like they did against the Patriots. Their O line is decimated with injuries and their secondary is porous. Oakland is on a high and playing well actually. It is the type of game that the Steelers tend to lose. That makes this game against the Panthers all the more important for the Ravens. They better come out with some life this week. No more walking dead through the first half, please.

I don't think so... But I also thought the Patriots would lose too.

You bring up some good points, though. However, I think Pitt will be looking to rebound after that last game.

Fun fact: Oakland has won the last two meetings against Pitt.

:argdancingravensblueonwkk8: I agree this should be an automatic win for the Ravin :borg_assimilation_faces:s. However, let hope Falco doesn't get happy feet and start throwing em away and our defence doesn't sit on their butts this week and give another game away like the falcons. If we don't win big this week, may our coach should give himself a timeout.

Wow.... I went on the Panthers Fourms and wished them good luck on Sunday(figure I would sign up there) and told them that I feel bad for them because they have to deal with John Fox and how he has made the running game invisible and that they should be lucky that they drafted not only Clausen but Tony Pike because of Moore's injury and someone said that because I said they are lucky to have drafted Clausen & Pike I was trolling..... all I did was wish them good luck... I think I learned my lesson... I'll stay on this board only.

Edit: Shoot their so down that when I told them that I was worried about them and how if Pike can get receivers open down field they would have a chance to win... they pretty much just didn't believe me and just said I had nothing to worry about. Some of those people are clamoring for Andrew Luck.

The Panthers have allowed the third most sacks this year so we could see one.
