Trade For Chad Johnson?

40 posts in this topic

Chad Johnson has already made it very clear to the Bengals he is not playing there, regardless.

Why not trade our 1st round draft choice for Ocho Cinco?? We could then pick up Flacco or Brohm in the 2nd, or even a CB in the 2nd, and use our 3rd on a QB such as Henne or Dixon.

Just an idea, what are your thoughts?

I like Chad, but there is no way that they would give up the #8 pick for him. Maybe for a bunch of later round picks though. Barring a slight miracle, the Bengals are not going to give up Chad Johnson for anything that Ozzie Newsome wants to give up. And that is just the truth

HELLZ NO!!!

He's 30+, and there is no way the Bengals would let him go for less than a first rounder.

Not to mention there's no way that the Bengals trade him within the AFC, no less the AFC North.

Very true also!

I dunno... the Bengals arent exactly calling the shots. Chad made it clear he would NOT be showing up to training camp with the Bengals. They might as well get something out of him, and it wouldn't hurt to offer.

I do agree with them not wanting to trade him in our league probably though...

Are you drunk?

At best he's worth a 3rd round pick, and i wouldn't even pick him up if we could get him for free.

Im sorry but you must be drunk... if you are trying to say Chad Johnson isn't worth a 1st round pick, your obviously hating on him. Yes hes been a somewhat problem child in the past, but with the right coaching and mentors (Ray/Reed will keep him in line) he would be a great asset to our team.

You're delusional. Jared Allen is arguably a top 5 defensive player, he's in his prime and he's barely worth a 1st round pick. And we're not talking about a top 10 pick here. The Raiders just gave up a 2nd round pick for Hall, a pro bowl corner who's only 25 years old. Chad Johnson is not worth a 1st round pick. He is too old, he makes too much money and he's a headcase. Plus how can you seriously believe that he will be happy here? What makes you think he's gonna help us? How? The guy was playing in one of the best offenses in the NFL and he had a top 5 QB throwing him the ball yet he was whining around every week. Yeah, he's gonna be real happy in our offense with Boller/Smith throwing him the ball, when he catches 2 balls for 9 yards on gameday.

Do you remember what we were willing to give up for TO a few years back? A 2nd round pick. And the guy was like 27 back then and a better receiver than Chad is right now. No way anyone's gonna give up a 1st round pick for Chad Johnson.

Personally I wouldn't have a clown like that on my team. He dared mock all present and future Hall of Fame inductees with his despicable little show with the yellow jacket on the sideline after a touchdown catch.

You would not want to have a confident talented player on your team, because he stated something that is probaly true. Listen, barring a terrible injury or something of that magnitude. Chad Johnson will probaly end up in the hall of fame. Or are you mad that he dared to have fun during a football game. How dare he! Have fun at a football game, who does he think he is?! A football player, not a clown, but a football player that has not forgot to have fun.

Stan, i guess that you are one of those people that like a No Fun League, but I fell in love with football as a child and I remember having fun. If you can't celebrate after a touchdown catch then when can you celebrate?

If teams have a problem with players celebrating then tell their defenses to stop them. I remember Chad's celebration of the "Future H.O.F." jacket very well like most ravens fans, because he did it to us. The difference between you and me, is that I thought he deserved to celebrate for scoring on that Ravens defense. He is not out to hurt anyone or do anything that is hurtful, he was just having a sense of humor. Personally, I think that we need more TD celebration in the NFL. I'll take a future where we are allowed to celbrate our accomplishments anyday, over a future where everyone (including losers) get a trophy. Which direction are you headed into...?

He is certainly worth a 1st round pick but i dont think he would be a good fit with the ravens. I dont think the Bengals will be getting rid of him either, I heard he will be a huge cap hit to them if they trade him away so it makes no sense for them to do it. He can keep his loud mouth over in cincy and i hope he continues to ruin there team chemistry.

If Chad Johnson doesn't want to be catching passes from Carson Palmer, who does he want to throw him the ball? Kyle Boller? Troy Smith? Or some current college prospect to be named?

The Patriots gave up a 4th round pick for Randy Moss, who was threating to do that same thing that Chad claims he's going to do. If you think Chad Johnson is worth more then Randy Moss, your crazy.

Yeah, he's like two years into a 6 year 30 some million dollar contract. The only way I see Chad getting out of Cinci, is if he does what he says and sits out. Or he does what Lavar did and he buys his way out.

I think Chad is just sick of being the scapegoat in Cinci. And he really is the scapegoat there he gets blamed for almost everything and its not his fault. I dont think this is about money or anything like that. I think Chad is just tired of losing and tired of being blamed for the losing. The Bengals can never seem to keep their best players happy. They had this same problem with Corey Dillon to. They just have a crappy organization.

I agree completly. I don't think that Chad's problem in Cincy was Carson Palmer, and so I don't think that he will mind who throws to him. If fact, he might like being able to "make" a young qb career without shouldering the whole team on his back. I think that he just wants to play and contend for a title. Who is going to argue that Chad coming to B-more is not going to make the Ravens SB contenders.

But no, I would not trade a first round for Chad, but a second round...

Great post. I hate the fact that the NFL is becoming so strict. Football revolves around Fun. Even tho these guys make Millions to play, they never would have stuck with it if it wasnt fun.

True- I don't think Chad Dictates to the Bengals. I believe he shows up to Camp and keeps cashing the checks.

Oh. I see. He was just having fun calling himself a future hall of famer.

I think Chad would be good for the team

Nope. He's only worried about "ocho cinco", not the Bengals or any other team he might be employed by. Harbaugh is trying to create a selfless team identity and adding the biggest set of jaws in the NFL is not going to promote that.

What?! listen I don't know why people just assume that he's some evil show offy egotistical jerk just because he likes to have fun on the football field. So he does a little dance. That doesn't make him a bad person or a team distraction. I doubt Carson Plmer starts getting upset and asking couch Lewis to disciplen him whenever Johnson starts doing a celebration. Chad Johnson has never gotten in trouble of the field like Tank Johnson or Pacman. But when he decides he wants to be paid like he deserves, he's a problem child? I would want to leave that situation in Cincinati if everyone there is going to assume that I'm a problem child because of other recievers in the league like Moss and Owens. Chad Johnson is not a problem child. He just wants respect and it looks like people still don't want to give it to him.

How are these probowl players not worth more than that? I do belive Ricky Williams ( a rookie who had never played in the NFL before) was traded for the Saint's entire draft.

Yes, he called himself a future Hall of Famer, but in all fairness, if he keeps playing like he is then he IS going to be in the Hall of Fame. Truthfully, can you blame him? He is an athelete, and an offense player to boot. Every coach wants and encourages his players to play with a swagger. Chad just has more swagger than most. Matter of fact, I want our recievers to play like they are future Hall of Famers. Thats why alot of players play this game: to be the best ever. Ans so you are really gonna hate on Chad cause he had the "audacity" to claim his place in history.

I challenge you with this then, if Ray Lewis, the heart and soul of our football team, was to say today that he was a future Hall of Famer, would you have the same reaction to him that you did to Chad Johnson?

I challege you. What player in the NFL, who has ALREADY EARNED himself a place in the Hall of Fame, has called himself a Hall of Famer?

You have to know that this is hanging over him and is probably why he hasn't gotten a trade offer. Chad Johnson is indeed worth a first round choice. He is a rare commodity on the field but his unusual sense of humor has him locked.

I wish him the best. I was just saying what I would feel about him if I was an NFL franchise owner looking to spend millions on a top player. I would want as little baggage as possible for the kind of money Chad Johnson wants.

I accept your challenge. Most NFL icons have probaly thought that they were Hall of Fame worthy, but don't say it publically. We all know that wide recievers are the Divas of the NFL, so does it trully surprise you that one would be so outspoken. I'm more surprised that more wideouts don't make similar claims to fame. My main point was that, yes it was bold to say it, but Chad Johnson is a future hall of famer and he is funny to boot.

As far as being an owner goes, I don't think that any owner of any team would be looked down upon if they aquired Chad Johnson for thier team. If the Ravens picked up Johnson today, I promise that you wouldn't be able to keep his jersey on the shelves.
